Nope- my pirate series hardly moves. I am looking for ways to stir it up a bit.

Thanks a bunch!Never heard of Cloister before. Going to hit it tomorrow. Coney Island has been on the list a while but always a trip too far but yesterday was opening day which was fun...

I was born there. ( Coney Island). Sometimes you can spot whales from the boardwalk. Get a hot dog at Nathan's. Cloisters is a very old nunnery. I think it's near the Bronx. If you are uptown- stop at the Museum of Natural History and visit the dinosaurs or the gem exhibit. Early man was great too.

That is brilliant advice, because honestly, a negative comment can far outweigh every positive one. Whenever I get a review I don't like, I go back and read the positive ones.
I have good news in the non-writing department: I just got news that I got an apartment I really wanted! I move in early May and I'm really excited. It'll be so nice to live alone again.
Hear, Hear, Alex. Thank-you, Ruth:)Aislinn, congratulations. I hope you like the apartment, and you can stay there all alone for as long as you want:)
Oh, and since this is a random something good, this is not related to books either. But, it's Spring and I'm excited about planting my fast growing shrub and invasive trumpet vines in my backyard to block the nosy neighbors behind me. I get to sit outside again without them standing in their doorway looking. (It's true, they stare)

Shame! Desks can be nice. At the moment I'm set up on one end of a dining room table, which isn't the same at all. I'm looking forward to having my place the way I want it.
I'm not very good at writing with other people in the room. The constant interruptions and noise annoy me. If I have to keep my mum company, I end up having to write late at night after she's gone to bed, because I usually can't when she's in the room with me unless she's super quiet.
I posted a character interview I wrote ages ago. I'm still not convinced with the whole character interview thing, but I wrote it and I'm pleased I finally blogged it. If you like that kind of thing. Also got to grips with the whole web address short code thing https://goo.gl/v0Q5ke turns out it's not difficult.
@Aislinn... yay for living alone again! It's lovely to have your own space.@Groovy... maybe your just way more interesting than they are.
And congrats to everyone's productivity!
I 'blew' 20 minutes of my morning 40 minutes on GR this morning... so, I better get back to writing know. You're inspiring me.
It was a good feeling until I did a search and found I'd used the word "that" over 300 times in a 40k book (and 40k-that's only half the length of the first!)
I've just knocked out over 100 of them. The rest I have declared necessary. A lot are in dialogue and I refuse to give my characters stilted dialogue for the sake of a word count. All of my other potentially over used words are within normal limits. So I'm very pleased with myself.
I do ignore most things Word would like to criticise me for in dialogue. I don't know how good word is for flagging grammar. It only complains about the odd piece of dialogue.I'm relieved that's done. Once I've edited it and rewritten it for four years I can publish it and move on to something else that I've had almost ready for the past 6 years...
I have progressed to the opinion that I will just publish everything I have because no-one is going to read it anyway. Then I can be someone who has several works out with none of them selling. But at least there will be more than one and it won't be lonely. This seems like a solid plan.
I just don't want to be one of those one title erotica authors that people like me ignore because I wonder if they're any good or if it's just a pretty cover with a naked body on the front...
I think there's a truth to that. Although I have read first books by authors who went on to write more. That was back in the day before anyone could self publish. Then again as I always remind myself I have read plenty of rubbish that was somehow traditionally published.
'That' is a word I work hard on trying not to use a lot, too. And 'it'. Sometimes I find that I can substitute 'it' for something more descriptive and it sounds so much better.Hang in there, Amy. Keep writing. Don't say no one's going to read (it) (better to say your work) See what I mean:)
Anyway, I always keep one thing in mind, 'If you write it, they will come.' You just have to persevere.
It never fails that I get so frustrated at times with trying to get exposure for my books, or they're not selling as well, I swear I'm not writing another one. Then I get an email that says, "I liked your book." or "I'm hooked on..." And I'm back to my old author self. I'm sure you feel that way, too:)
When are you going to win the lottery and hire us those personal assistants:)
Yeah, don't hold your breath. Although I did win £25 last week. That's it for the year now I suspect.News: I believe I have formatted the damn book for a 9x6 paperback. It has page numbers and evryfink and there are no massive gaps at the end of mid chapter pages and it looks like the margins should work.
I've probably cut and pasted into the template wrong somehow, but you know. If you don't read the words it looks OK.
I need chocolate. And I don't have any of the right stuff. Thanks for all your help. Really appreciate that.
Groovy wrote: "I'd send you some chocolate, but by the time it reached you, it wouldn't taste the same:)"Lol, melted chocolate. Which reminds me I do have low calorie hot chocolate. That'll have to do.
I've also got an ISBN number now. Yay me. I'll soon have a back and side graphic for my book too.
Amy wrote: "This weekend. I've made a note on my calendar."I have that noted for my weekend activity too! Perhaps we'll see each other in the winner's circle together. :)
