What are You Reading Besides a Cozy?

How interesting to read about an ancestor.

Only through the first chapter. John Jay has just finished his studies at King's College in NYC. The school is now known as Columbia.

The Unknown Ajax is a favorite of mine along with The Grand Sophy though they are closely followed by several others.

Crais is one of my absolute favorites! Looking forward to the new one.

Perhaps more paranormal romance elements in this one but the romance is not the main story. The mystery had more urban fantasy feel. Story arc and cast seem to have shifted away from cozy mystery and toward urban fantasy as more bad and worse things happen onstage. I'm enjoying the complex world and characters as they develop and look forward to where they go next.

I am so behind on those I loved them though. now that i amtrying to get back to reading I will pick those up again soon. on a different note i have started

I'm currently reading a political memoir, which is fascinating as an insight into what really goes on, but quite hard going, so need to take a break from it every so often.
Other crime/mystery series I like are C.J. Sansom Shardlake series, which do get a bit gruesome at times, and Ben Aaronovitch urban fantasy Rivers of London series.

I've read them and I agree though some readers do not want detectives to be police. I remember reading an article at the time of Heyer's death that in US she was known for her historicals in UK she was better known for her mysteries. I'll add these to my re-read list.

Since my roommate was in the hospital, I have picked up crocheting.
I just recently started listening to audiobooks again but nothing like I used to.

I have read the first one and now have the second one lined up to read/listen to in August. It sounds like another good one with Phryne flying her own plane in Flying Too High

Hope your roommate is better.
Check bhooked, jaydainstitches and the crochet crowd on the internet. These are a few I like .
I am reading Where'd You Go, Bernadette - it's an epistolary novel set in Seattle where Microsoft is king of the hill.

Elemental Guardian series by Crystal Inman.
Among others Hoopla has all four books in the Elemental Guardian series.

These are re-read for me. I had a lot going on when I had the ebook with all of them from the library and planned a leisurely re-read but holds on the book prevented me doing it. Hoopla again saves me having to go on wait list. The story arc/universe and the characters both appeal to me. I hope someday there are more stories in this universe, maybe a short story follow up as one of her free holiday reads on her website.
Next on my Inman list:

Listening to The Island of Doctor Moreau by H.G. Wells

One of the most fun books ever. Barbara Hambly is very skilled at adapting her writing talent to other's Universes and creating something unique and very entertaining.
