Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished My Sister's Grave. While I enjoyed it, I didn't think it was stellar.

Next up is Sunshine.

We don't want Travis to be a dull boy.

"can I have 3 Bogos please" lol

It's a very common think in this side of the pool. We get all sorts of BOGOF offers in our shops. I never thought about it before but I realise now that audible US has "2 for 1" sales! I love all to find these language differences ;-p

message 1304: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments We have 2 for 1 sales here too. I'm with Cherie (sorry Cherie, missed this page).

A BogOf sounds like a competition you would have in a toilet, and would not be inspiring me to buy anything!

message 1305: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5199 comments I finished my book last night, and i am about to start Besieged, the Iron druid collection of short stories. But before this I'll read the 3 new chapter of Oathbringer that were uploaded today.

Oathbringer on pre-order on pre-order with audible! 16th november is the irish release date. I might save it for my xmas read - or not lol

message 1308: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yeah I know Esther inquired about a buddy read but i personally hate serializations.

message 1309: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments Oh, I missed that. I'd agree with you travis - I wouldn't like to be drip fed any book ;-)

message 1310: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5199 comments It is not so bad. It gives me time to speculate. And i really wanted to know. I am enjoying it a lot.

Good to hear it's living up to expectations :-)

message 1313: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I also gave that 4 stars Dem

message 1314: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I didn't get very far with Swordspoint. The first couple of chapters didn't grab me and I don't think I'm in the right mood to persevere with it at the moment.

I am going to start Ship of Magic instead. This is a reread for me which I am doing as part of a Robin Hobb readalong.

message 1315: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just finished The Skull Throne which was awesome. I read it for my all about me challenge. Now on to The Vagrant for the group read as well as my about me challenge. 2 birds and all that...

message 1316: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11289 comments Since I last posted I finished listening to Robinson Crusoe and reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

I also listened to Cinco Minutos by José de Alencar

I am half way through O Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma by Lima Barreto in audiobook, and will start tonight South of Forgiveness: A True Story of Rape and Responsibility for a buddy read.

message 1317: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am currently reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand and listening to Brilliance.

message 1318: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4547 comments What do you think of MP'sLS, Cherie? I listened to it.

message 1319: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4547 comments I'm listening to To Kill a Mockingbird (Sissy Spacek narrates), and reading Evensong, The Life We Bury and Spring Tide. Three others ( Women of the Silk, Rose in a Storm and Time and Time Again ) are waiting in the wings.

message 1320: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments I really liked Time and Time Again

message 1321: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments I'm reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.

It took me a bit to get used to the dialogue, but I'm enjoying it. Really beautiful writing.

message 1322: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Are you reading in in print form or audiobook, Anne? I couldn't stand Ruby Dee's overly dramatic narration, so I tried print, and couldn't get used to the dialogue. Maybe third time will be a charm some day.

Hi Janice, I'm reading the novel. It took me a good 30 pages to get used to the dialogue. It's fine now - the dialogue that is. I can't remember why I wasn't introduced to this gem before. It's so good :)

message 1324: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand - and Roz - I loved it! I even almost liked Roger by the end.

Today, I am starting I, Claudius for my yearly challenge and I am starting Clockwork Angel as a marathon read for the Sept monthly challenge.

message 1325: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4547 comments I knew you'd love it! Roger was such a brat. I just wanted to shake him silly.

message 1326: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments Thank goodness A Column of Fire came to an end last night. It was a bit of a disappointment after the brilliance of The Pillars of the Earth and the enjoyability of World Without End. I just didn't get drawn into this one in the same way. It was more about the history of the period than the characters. I found it a very one sided view of events at that.

I'm now listening to The Humans as I'm in need of something a bit daft ;-)

Sorry to hear A Column of Fire was a disappointment for you, Margo. What star rating do you think you will give it?

message 1328: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished The Wind Through the Keyhole last night and started Into the Fire. Like Margo, it's time for a bit of a change.

message 1329: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments I think I'm going to re-read the series, Janice, and plug The Wind Through the Keyhole in when I get to it. It's been so long since I read the other books. I may go with audio this time.

I keep trying to read The Mysterious Affair at Styles for the monthly challenge. The first time I started, I was too distracted and had to keep going back. I tried again last night, but kept falling asleep. I'm going to try one more time today.

message 1330: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Audio is the way to go! I will someday re-read the series too.

I haven't decided yet Lisa. I'll probably give it 3. It wasn't that bad but the 1st and 2nd were both 5 star reads.

message 1333: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments Couldn't contain myself any longer - started The Painted Man last night!

message 1334: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've started Winter Garden for the monthly challenge.

message 1335: by Eliestal (last edited Oct 01, 2017 04:36AM) (new)

Eliestal | 255 comments I just finished The Golden Compass this morning. I will start The Painted Man tonight!

The Golden Compass was a nostalgia re-read for me to get ready for La Belle Sauvage.
It might have been the first book I finished that wasn't an assignment for school. I love the progression to the final part of the book. Lyra is in my opinion a great character. I loved the way she reacted to situations especially in the second half of the book.

message 1336: by Cherie (last edited Oct 04, 2017 05:48PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished reading Clockwork Angel last night and have started reading The Warded Man and listening to the second Brilliance book, A Better World

message 1337: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments I finished The Humans and it wasn't at all what I had expected but still I really enjoyed it. It was very philosophical.

Now I can really get my teeth into The Painted Man!

message 1338: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm reading El asesinato de Pitágoras for the Year -CH
Is for my favorite cuisine, which is Mediterranean

message 1339: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished a couple of books while away this weekend - Into the Fire and Sunshine.

It's a good thing that Into the Fire was the last in the series because it would have been the last for me. I think I'm done in the Night Huntress World.

I enjoyed Sunshine and her constant verbiage. Her free flow of thought was rather humourous.

I started two new books - Sleeping Beauties on audiobook for my 2017 new release goals, and The Vagrant for the themed read.

message 1340: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments I started The India Fan on my kindle. It's a real blast from past for me! I loved Victoria Holt when I was a teen. She was the author responsible for my love of gothic novels. She has really gone out of fastion these days.

message 1341: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19227 comments I'm finally starting a new book. I don't think I've read anything in about a week. I started Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. I hope to finish it before the toppler.

I like V. Holt too, and I think her books are not lacking in validity today

I've been pretty off for the last month at least. I'm hoping to get back to normal with the toppler.

message 1345: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm reading The Vagrant for the themed read. I hope to finish it before the toppler but don't think that will happen.

message 1346: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm starting Katherine because it has been on my TBR pile for ages and I'm in the mood for reading some historical romance right now. I won't finish it before the toppler but I don't mind putting it aside for a week.

message 1347: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I started reading The Gentle Tamers: Women of the Old Wild West for the monthly challenge.

That's good to hear, Margo. I like it so far.
