Psychobabble
February Challenge of the month. Challenge runs from February 1 to February 28
The Background
Once upon a time there was an online multiplayer game by Popcap Games called Psychobabble. It was a long long time ago; like two decades ago. I confess I played it. Please note: No wisecracks or speculations about how unearthly old I may be getting!
A virtual roomful of players would make sentences from a set of various refrigerator word magnets that followed an announced theme. And then the players would judge which sentence was the best and, of course, you couldn't vote for your own.
In combing the internet, I can only find a few images from this game. Initially I was quite disappointed about this. I was hoping to find some screenshots that would give me some possible themes and magnets to use in developing this challenge.
I did, however find www.magneticpoetry.com which gave me various sets of word magnets. And I found a game called Ransom Notes that uses the same basic idea as well and was my inspiration for the prompts this challenge will use.
Details of the Challenge
This will be an individual challenge with all tracking done in this thread. Claim your tracking post below. Also, use this thread for any questions.
All books used in this challenge must meet the group's Standard Book Requirements.
I have generated 20 different words sets using the website previously mentioned. This is more sets than you will be able to use. Use these word sets in responding to the prompts in the challenge.
There is no planned voting in this challenge. Of course, if you want to weigh in any of the responses, feel free to use this thread for that purpose as well.
Earning Coins
The first thing you will need to do is earn some coins to buy the words sets. Each word set will cost two coins.
Here is where the reading comes in! There are 12 different groups of tasks. Each group will consist of three tasks.
Read a book that fits one, two, or all three of these tasks. Earn one coin if the book fits one task, two coins if the book fits two of the tasks, or three coins if the book fits all three of the tasks within that group. An Example:
Set X: Read a book that
* Has something green on the cover
* Was published in January
* Is tagged Fantasy
Splintered by A.G. Howard
Fits all three tasks = 3 coins
The Word Sets
For each prompt you can use one or two words sets. There are a total of 20 sets; however, the maximum you will use will be 16 (8 prompts times 2 sets.)
You will be able to use each word set ONE time only . . . i.e. you cannot use a few words from the set for one prompt and then use other words from the same set with a different prompt.
None of these word sets include any punctuation. Feel free to use all punctuation as you see fit in your responses. Outside of this, you cannot use words not found in the word set(s) you are using or variations of the words except as provided by any -y, -s, -ing, etc. word magnets that are included in the set(s) you are using.
The Prompts
With these words, you will compile a (perhaps) cohesive sentence or thought that you feel works within one of the following Ransom Note prompts:
Prompt #1: Compliment a stripper on the quality of his/her performance.
Prompt #2: Summarize the existence of men.
Prompt #3: Tell someone their fly is open.
Prompt #4: Create the tagline for a travel brochure for a small town in Idaho.
Prompt #5: Welcome someone to Walmart.
Prompt #6: Where do babies come from?
Prompt #7: Use your best pick up line.
Prompt #8: Write a fortune cookie message.
Example using 4 coins to purchase two word sets to use in responding to prompt. This prompt is not featured in the challenge, but the word sets used are from the actual words sets available.
Prompt: Explain your visit to a doctor.
Prompt Response: Time & nature not nice. Want eye lift.
Word Sets Used: #12 and #16
Please Note: While this is an adult group, I'm a little concerned about how racy the word magnet responses will be. Please do me a favor and put your sentences behind spoilers if you think it's too risque! Thanks!!
The Tasks
Earn one coin for each task your one book fits in the set of three you assign the book to. The task sets do not have to be completed in order and you do not need to complete them all. To earn all of the trading cards, you will need to read at least eight books during this one month challenge.

Spring Flower Hunt
For this Spring Flower Hunt Challenge, you can earn points in four ways! Search for flowers on the cover, in the title, in the author’s name, or in the text of the book.
Can you find all 12 flowers in March?
To earn points, search books for the following Spring Flowers:
Primrose
Tulip
Daffodil
Hyacinth
Crocus
Snowdrop
Forget-me-nots
Foxglove
Iris
Heather
Lily of the Valley
Bleeding Heart
How do you earn points?
One point is earned by finding the flower:
- in the text of the book
- in the title of the book
- in the author’s name (first, middle, last)
- on the cover of the book (must clearly be the flower)
You can find each flower one time in each category. For example, you can earn 4 points per flower, finding it once in the text, in the title, in the author’s name, and on the cover.
Each book can only be used once. If a book settles more than one requirement (has a primrose on the cover, Heather in the text, the title is 'Foxglove Family Shenanigans' and the author's name is Iris) you can choose which flower you want to use it for.
Please include which way you have found the flower for each book!
Earn a card for 3, 6, 9, and 12 points.
For an extreme challenge, try to find all 12 flowers!
Standard Game Night rules apply.
Books can be started anytime, but must not be finished before March 1.

Simon
Can you beat Simon? Simon is a short-term memory game requiring quick reflexes. The device creates a series of tones and lights and requires a user to repeat the sequence. If the user succeeds, the series becomes progressively longer and more complex. Once the user fails or the time limit runs out, the game is over.
In this challenge of the month, you are going to play a book version of Simon. To get started, go to https://wordwall.net/resource/5147294...
Click "start", and once the game loads, click "deal". This will give you 4 cards for your unique Simon game. Log these color cards in your post. You can play 3 rounds, for up to 12 books.
Standard Game Night rules apply.
When it comes to color covers, estimate about 50% of the color for the book to work, but use your best judgment. No need to ask me if it counts! If you think it's blue, it's blue.
Earn up to three cards - one for each pattern completed.

Hidden Object Challenge

This is a cover challenge. If you see it in the picture, find a book with that item on the cover and read it. 3, 6, 9 and 12 books. No duplicate items. If you find more than one item on your cover, you can pick one and use the other item for another cover.
Standard Book Requirements apply.
Use your imagination. I see a skull with fangs near the bottom. Maybe it was a vampire or a werewolf or just a skull. The 'person' behind the counter could be a librarian. Maybe the title of your book is The Librarian. If you need help finding items, you can look under spoilers. It will by no means be a total list, but it should help you get started.

Nail Color Mania
I always love to get a new manicure at the start of summer - by June where I am we're finally into warm weather for good (or at least for the summer) and I like to break out the bright and beachy themed colors! Maybe it's not summer where you are, so you're thinking about warm and fuzzy themes for your nails!
Regardless of where you are, there are So. Many. Options. to choose from when it comes to nail polish colors. Need some help picking the perfect color? Or maybe you'd like to invent your own new color? Let me help with that.
Below is a fun nail polish name game - sort of like a Mad Libs game with a little random fun thrown in.
You can play this game to create 3 new nail polishes (12 tasks) and collect 4 trading cards. You can read your task choices in any order but must complete one polish color before moving to the next.
Step 1:
Choose a noun - any person, place or thing. But you must find this noun on a book cover, so choose wisely! (It can be anything on the cover, even if it's a background image like a sky)
Read a book with your chosen noun on the cover
Step 2:
Choose a color - any color! As long as it is on this wheel:
https://spinthewheel.io/
Read a book with a cover that is mostly the wheel color chosen
Step 3:
Choose an adjective - any word that describes a noun
Read a book with any adjective in the title - does NOT have to be the one you chose
Step 4:
Enter your words from Steps 1-3 into this word randomizer, one word per line. Click on the Generate button and scroll down to see the name of your new polish.
https://randomwordgenerator.com/list.php
Read a book with all the author's initials in the name of your new polish.
Step 5:
Choose a trading card!!
This game doesn't have to be totally random - you control the noun and adjective you want to use. Want some crazy polish colors? Pick some crazy words! Feeling more traditional? Pick words you would expect to see in a nail polish color. Most of all? Have fun!!!
Extra Extra!!
Really love getting manicures or at least thinking about manicures? When I'm waiting my turn, I love to look at all the nail polish colors - some are so fun and some are just plain weird! Head over to our A Million More Pages (AMMP) sister group for a nail polish Scavenger Hunt (or two).

Ice Cream Flavors Crossword
In the United States, July is Ice Cream month! As the summer reaches peak temperatures, Americans celebrate National Ice Cream Month as a way to cool off and enjoy the nation's favorite frozen treat with friends and family.
Rules
Step 1: Solve the puzzle.
Step 2a: Read a book where the title of the book starts with the first letter of the answer. So if one of the answers is Blueberry, then you would read a book that starts with the letter B. Use of articles is up to you. So The Baker, could be the title of your 'B' book.
OR
Step 2b: Read a book that has ice cream on the cover or where the cover is the main color of the flavor.
Step 3: Claim your trading card.
Levels are 3, 6, 9 and 12.
There are 15 clues, you only have to read for up to 12 of them. Reading more does not get you a different trading card. It is just so you have options.
Standard Book Qualifications apply.
If you have trouble with the answers, I will help, just message me.
Post below to let me know you are in, then I will create a thread for you. Please let me create it so I can post the crossword.

Bunco Night at Game Night
Have you played Bunco? Have you even heard of Bunco?
I'll admit I have heard of it, never played it and always thought it was an "old-fashioned" game. Something they in the fifties, you know?
Well, this month at Game Night, we're going to play! Sort of. First, for those who aren't at all familiar with how the game is played, I've listed the general Bunco rules. Then in the next post below, you'll see how we do things here at Game Night!
General Bunco Rules
The basics of Bunco are as follows:
🎲A game of Bunco is played in two to four sets, with six rounds in each set.
🎲Players are seated at multiple tables, with 4 players at each. One table is designated as the head table.
🎲During the game, players at each table take turns rolling three dice to try and earn points. All tables play simultaneously.
🎲A player at the head table rings a bell to signal the beginning and end of each round.
🎲During each round, players attempt to roll the same number on the dice as the number of the round (for example, rolling three 3's die3.gif die3.gif die3.gif in Round 3 would earn the player points).
🎲For every number rolled that matches the round number, one point is awarded to that player.
🎲A player keeps rolling until they score no points. The scorekeeper then records the score they earned onto the table tally as the temporary team score. Then the dice are passed to the player on the left.
🎲When the head table has earned 21 points, the round is over. The head table rings a bell to signal that the round has ended.
🎲At the end of every round, players change partners and/or tables.
🎲At the end of a game, there are typically multiple "winners." The player(s) with the most Buncos, wins, losses, etc, may earn prizes for their successes.
Read on for Bunco Night at Game Night
~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~ ⭐️ ~ 🎲 ~
We'll play individual sets, meaning each player will roll for 6 rounds (a set is 6 rounds).
Because a player in real Bunco continues to roll until they score no more points, a person's turn could be 1 roll or 10 or more (if they're really lucky!). For the sake of our challenge, we will limit each round to 3 rolls. This gives you the opportunity to read up to 18 books or a minimum of 6 books.
Also for the sake of our challenge, you can consider the challenge complete when you have read at least 9 tasks/books. However, if you want to keep reading up to the maximum, feel free.
Trading cards will be given for reading 6, 9, and 18 books as well as for rolling a BUNCO and/or for rolling a Mini-BUNCO.
Game Play
Using the dice roller below, the number to roll for each round is the round's number: Round 1 = roll for 1s, Round 2 = roll for 2s, and so on. After each roll, you will read the task that matches your roll results.

🎲Read a book with a title that starts with a letter in BUNCO OR
🎲Read a book that has 3 of the same letters in the title
Remember, if you score 0 points, you move on to the next round and the next number. But if your roll scores points (1, 2, mini-Bunco or Bunco), keep rolling for that same number (up to 3 times).
If you finish all 6 rounds and have not read 9 books, you may play another set. You may play as many sets as you'd like to earn all of the trading cards offered but the game is considered complete at 9 books read.

Space Invaders
Individual Challenge
In following with the Space theme of the sister group AMMP, I bring you Space Invaders!
All books in this challenge must meet the Standard Book Qualifications
In this challenge you will fire your weapon to hit the space aliens in the grid below. One book needed per alien/spaceship. Can you clear them all?
You will not be able to hit the aliens in the middle row until you hit the alien below it. Likewise, you will not be able to hit the aliens in the top row until you hit the alien in the middle and bottom row of the same column. The spaceship can only be hit once you've cleared an entire column of the aliens.

To hit the alien or spaceship, you will need to read a book that meets or exceeds the value of that alien/spaceship in the key next to the play grid.
How do you hit the alien or spaceship?
This is a book cover task and will use the outside source of the tineye color extraction (found here: https://labs.tineye.com/color/ )
You will not need a specific colored cover.
To hit an alien (or the spaceship) you will need to read a book where ONLY the first tineye color percentage meets or exceeds the points in the alien/spaceship grid above.
For those not familiar with the tineye color extraction tool, here are some basic instructions.
1) On the Goodreads book page, right click on the cover art of the edition you read and choose something similar to "copy image location" or "copy image link" or "copy image address"
2) Go to the tineye color extractor tool. Found here: https://labs.tineye.com/color/
3) Paste the image address into the box that says "Enter image URL."
4) Click on the "Extract Colors." Unclick the " Exclude background color from extracted colors" box
5) Record the top result percentage. That is the only one you will need in this challenge
If you'd like a tool to number the alien/spaceship you hit with your book, here is one that assigns a number to each one.

🧝🏼🧝🏼🧝🏼 Elf on a Shelf 🧝🏼🧝🏼🧝🏼
Imagine having a tiny elf scout who reports back to Santa about your kids' behavior. That's the magic of Elf on the Shelf, a fun-filled Christmas tradition that's sure to keep your little ones entertained.
Here's how to bring this mischievous elf into your holiday season:
Welcome the Elf: Introduce your kids to their new elf friend on December 1st. Explain that this elf, straight from the North Pole, will be keeping an eye on them for Santa. Tell them to look for the elf each morning, as it'll move to a new spot every night.
Hide and Seek with the Elf: Unleash your creativity and hide the elf in different spots around the house each night. Remember, the elf's primary goal is to entertain your kids, so ensure they can find it without too much trouble. You can add to the fun by posing the elf in silly or mischievous positions.
Notes from the Elf: Sometimes, the elf might leave behind little notes or surprise gifts for your kids. These notes can be words of encouragement, reminders to be good, or even clues to the elf's next hiding place.
Embrace the Holiday Cheer: Witness the joy and excitement on your kids' faces as they search for the elf each day. The Elf on the Shelf is a simple yet magical way to make the holiday season even more special.

From December 1 to December 12, I will post a clue as to where the elf is hiding.
The elf will be hiding either in AMMP or Game Night.
When you find the elf, there will be a bookish task for you to complete.
You do not need to complete these tasks in order, nor do you need to complete all the tasks.
You can collect a trading card for 3/6/9/12 tasks.
