*whispers* might you mean "give Edge a chance?" Best of luck and I hope you sell a bunch!

Oooh, you are the sweetest! *Tackle* I'm cool now, Ember. This is more of a GR thing. When I have a promo coming up, I will kindly ask for such aid then. Same to you!!! *fist bump*

PMing you now."
You try to come across as all stabbity and look at the kind things you do. :)

Yeah, I was warned against how some indie authors see this as a competition and are backstabby... and I've never come across that. I'm sure they are out there, but I luckily have only met the awesome peeps.

A guy (ooh, there's a guy) who's brother was killed and so he's got some angst and a bit of agoraphobia, has to help his parents sell the family orchard because he doesn't want to run it. He pulls in his friends from high school and college to help go through things in the house, fix it up, etc., and over time his feeling for his friend come into the full light of day.
Typical, nothing shiny... BUT
My guy is possessed by the ghost of his dead brother.
Hijinks ensue. There are always hijinks. Hijinks are required.
(novellette length ~ 15,000 words.)

and hijinks.
Yes, more novellettes. They are cute and shiny and tell a good story.

We're talking novelettes and short prose. I think they are awesome! Enough room to have a solid fleshed out storyline and world, without a lot of dragging out. I like my novels, but sometimes you just are in the mood for a nibble.

I wanted to share some of my highlights:
What is plot?
-- A character has an objective. Character performs an action/uses his will to gain the objective. Outside forces block him from achieving his objective.
-- Plot exists as a direct result of the character's action.
-- Choices drive plot.
-- Stories are about solving problems.
How to make awesome characters
-- Give them backstory
-- Give them inner demons
-- Characters make choices.
Steps to a plot
-- Inciting incident/hook
-- first Plot Point - Everything Changes. Primary Conflict takes place
-- Mid point - New actions/information that changes the nature of the game
-- second Plot Point - Final injection of new info. All the pieces of the puzzle are out. Hero changes to Heroic Warrior.
-- Climax
Scenes
-- in every scene a character has an objective
-- something blocks the character from gaining the objective
-- in every scene something must change
What do you think?

Ember wrote: "Why did that sound completely dirty when I read it CB? Either I'm deranged or I just come to expect stuff like that lol it might be a bit of both! Lol!"
It sounded dirty when you read it... because I was the one that wrote it!

I did. Lots of good questions and sharing of ideas. I love talking plot/mechanics with other authors.

Ember, I was going to say, CB could simply be ordering dinner and he'd make it sound dirty.
"Yes, I'd like some finger-licken chicken, some hot sticky buns, and one of those foot longs, please."

@Miss Nat: Sounds pretty darn good to me! ^_~"
Thanks Annie. Wasn't sure if I missed a Major Thing so I could update my list... but everyone seemed pretty happy with it. Considering doing the workshop again... but maybe I'll just set it up as blog posts.

Ah, now I've given myself more work! Why do I do this to myself?

Possibilities.... Endless.

Weapon of mass destruction?

On another note: Questions for my Peeps out there (you, all of you, are my Peeps). I'm looking for good quality epic fantasy cover artists/designers. I have cat people in my world and I want them on the cover. Something more fine art than digital art. Can you direct me to some pages?
Cheers!

Center of Deception is the second book in the Wielder World series, but it can easily be read first. Books 1 and 2 were designed that way! Check out the 9 other great fantasy works and signed up for the giveaway. Help spread the word.

Now, I've shifted from 'absorbing' to 'producing'. Back to working on Afflicted. It's a rough draft. Oh so rough, and the road ahead isn't easy. But then, who said writing was easy?
Reading the Nightrunner series for the first time. And I'm delighted by the mix of the plot and the romance. Inspiration! I'm not fully into just mm romance, I want my plot to play a very large role. Nightrunner has a lovely cast a character, beautiful worldbuilding and an intriguing plot. Plus... UST... at first anyway. So, it's quite a lovely read. I'm on book two.
What have you read lately that's inspired you lovely authors to work on your own works more?
Currently I'm listening to "Cat's Cradle" in my car.
Reading... I am reading something by some Indie author named Riley Amos Westbrook. Not sure if anyone around SIA has heard of him, but he's good.

Sometimes I sit with the classics and just let the language flow over me. I'm not that kind of a writer, but I do appreciate it. Sometimes I wish I was that kind of writer. I could maintain the style for short works, but not a full novel.
I haven't heard of Westbrook. I'll check out the genre and books.

Dwayne, funny you mention that because last night I decided my next indie read would be a book by that same author. What are the odds? Little Black Stormcloud is written by Riley Amos Westbrook and Sara Lynn Westbrook. I heard that's his wife. I heard they're nice people. The book should be good. ; )
Happy Productivity Nat!! Happy Hugs!!

Thank you, Sam! I am feeling actually good about writing again. I hit a 'I'm not worthy' moment there that lasted longer than it should. Now, back to creation!
Love reading good, inspiring fiction.

Lyra, thank you! I think it's cool. I set it up on my mantle, shine it once in a while, take it out, show it to my friends.
Elves do rock! And their long pointy ears are very useful when brewing magic.
