I love her book Capture & Surrender (Market Garden, #5) by L.A. Witt and this one can be read as a standalone

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 650 comments I finished one of my books, The Winter People. OMG I loved it. Perfectly unsettling! A great snowy weather book.

message 157: by Karen D (new)

Karen D | 111 comments Finished A Cure for Madness by Jodi McIsaac , it was pretty good! Big on conspiracy theory but with a bit of suspension of disbelief it was really enjoyable.

message 158: by Theo (new)

Theo | 1929 comments Finished Brave New World by Aldous Huxley , not particularly impressed. It just felt heavy-handed, like the author was telling you what to believe and not letting the story do it for him.

message 159: by Chelle_Rydz (last edited Jan 24, 2017 04:46PM) (new)

Chelle_Rydz (chellerydz) | 621 comments I finished my alternate genre choice Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger yesterday. It was my first steampunk book. It was a steampunk/supernatural/romance mix. I wasn't too sure about it because I don't really do romance anymore, and I'm over vampires, but still liek werewolves. It turned out to be very interesting. I'll give steampunk another try.
I give it 3 stars.
I'm now starting on my first pick And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

message 160: by ⚜️XAR (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I've finished both of my picks for the month! Both were pretty good reads, though A Merciful Death was the better of the two! Thanks for the picks, Jonquil!

message 167: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments Finished my first pick Her Darkest Nightmare (The Evelyn Talbot Chronicles, #1) by Brenda Novak . Brenda Novak is one of my favorite authors. I gave this a 4-star rating.

message 168: by Esther (new)

Esther | 60 comments Skandia,

I have finished The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke and Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie . The City and the Stars was great to tick-off as a must-read classic - lots of interesting pieces that give context to later developments in science fiction. Half of a Yellow Sun was tragic and exquisite. Such a beautiful and heart-breaking take on the Biafran War.

I am half-way through Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood . Another great pick. Beautiful dystopian fiction and I like how she tells it through the disjointed time-lines.

message 169: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sophielea) | 5 comments I have finished Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo and absolutely loved it! Easy 5 stars. Now onto Harry Potter!!

Juana "Darkness" Duran | 71 comments I finished reading all three books. My favorite would have to be Wild Crush by Simone Elkeles

Ok. I read chapter 1 last night. I couldn't resist. Thanks Jenn

message 181: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jojolyn) | 673 comments I read my second pick, 738 Days by Stacey Kade , 1/26/17. I gave it ***, it was a good book but it didn't strike me as fantastic. It kind of lagged a bit for me, maybe it was the heavy topic.

I did not get to read the last recommendation because the title did not come in at the library; I am still on the waiting list. It is on my TBR.
