For this review, I need my special pimp hat.

First, a little background on the story…
Justin is not you average HS boy playing football, instead the words nerd, and man-boobs come to mind... but then trouble begins with his family, and then his friends... next thing you know, he's no-man's-land at school except for the Goth crowd. He decides enough is enough, and starts to make changes.

But just as he's started, he meets this smoking hot chick at the gym. She's all 'come hither, Justin' attitude until she attacks him. She's not human. After experiencing a killer migraine, suddenly he starts developing strange powers. It's like he has this ‘panty dropping power’ on any female he comes across, something every hormonal boy should want but not Justin. He's a hopeless romantic.

He has to figure out what is happening to him, even though it seems everyone else knows the rules of the game while he’s still looking for his scorecard. Can he figure out the world he’s found himself thrust into before others track him down and do worse than make him their plaything?

I. Loved. This. Book.
This is a fast, fun read that left me aching for the sequel. Sweet Blood of Mine is fantastic for adults and young adults alike! Justin transforms before the reader's eyes; starting as a shy nerd needing a "Man-zier" to seducing every female (including the readers) into jelly at his feet. SBoM manages to remain innocent and romantic, but enough ‘action’ to steam your glasses.

It's laugh out loud funny and I highly recommend it to ANYONE who enjoys paranormal romance/urban fantasy

You simply MUST read this book. You may say, “But I don’t read YA.” SBoM is the YA that everyone should read, even those that don’t usually read YA. Take a chance, and I promise you will not be disappointed! SBoM rolls awkward teenage drama with supernatural shenanigans, adds a few ninja moves, and Princess Bride references (you know you love it). John Corwin adds such wit to this story; it keeps you laughing from the first sentence. Corwin’s writing style reminds me of the Dresden Files and Iron Druid Chronicles because of his laugh-out-loud humor that seems to captivate the reader. You’ll be drawn in by the humor and then the story will create a craving that can’t be satisfied until you’ve finished the last page.

Overall, Sweet Blood of Mine is a hilarious, enthralling urban fantasy that will knock your knickers off and leave you quivering for more!

SUMMARY (50 word or less)

I’ve read several good books from indie authors and I’m always surprised by the talent that is untapped by traditional publishers. But there are a select few that I consider great. This book is one of those. I was pleasantly surprised by just how good this book was.

What we have all been been waiting for is finally here! Sweet Blood of Mine is out! I read this one months ago in beta stage and just finished reading the finished novel and it was just as great the second go around as well.

Sweet Blood of Mine, Book One of the Overworld Chronicles

From Goodreads:

From Mega Nerd to Super Stud.

Justin Case and women do not mix. Man boobs, a love of Kings and Castles, and being tight with the "nerd" crowd certainly don't win him any points either. After rescuing Katie, his crush, it turns out she might not be the girl he thought she was, while Elyssa, the school's Goth Girl, turns out to be more. Can high school get any more confusing?

Determined to improve himself, he joins a gym and meets a sexy girl that just oozes a "come hither, Justin" vibe. Until she attacks him in the parking lot, and Justin realizes she's no ordinary girl but a being with supernatural speed and strength. After a narrow escape and an excruciating migraine headache, he wakes up with supernatural abilities all his own: speed, strength, and the ability to seduce every woman he sees.

While that might sound like the perfect combo for any hormonal teen, Justin is a hopeless romantic who wants his first time to be special. Is that too much to ask for? But he doesn't know what he is or how to stop his carnal urges. One thing is clear: If he doesn't find answers there are other more sinister supernaturals who would like nothing better than to make him their eternal plaything and do far worse than kill him.

My Review:
When John first asked if I would beta read this book I was a little hesitant. While I really enjoyed the book I had read from him The Next Thing I knew, I didn't Love it. However as with anything John Corwin writes I knew it would be funny. So even if you read The next Thing I knew and didn't love it... Do. Not. Pass. This. One. Up! With 17 ratings on goodreads and a 4.94 rating you know it is great!

Justin is a lovable teenager who has no idea what is "wrong" with him but knows things are changing. He considers himself a loser and after an episode with drinking way to much beer he causes himself to become a social pariah. The only people willing to be his friends is the goth crew. But will soon find out why this is a good thing (don't want to spoil anything!). To make matters worse his mom leaves and offers no other reason other than "his father and her have decided to go their different ways and she has to right a mistake she never should have made". His father deals with this by drinking himself into oblivion so yeah no help there!

After deciding his life choices have led him to become an overweight teen with no self respect and in his eyes a total loser he decides to take responsibility and start working on himself by working out, cutting his elf-do, and eating healthy. He had and "elf-do" because that is what he is while playing "Kings and Castles".

Things start getting weird as his body really starts changing after an attack from a Stacy some strange supernatural girl in the gym parking lots, he thinks maybe a vampire? I don't want to spoil anything so I'll stop there.

Sweet Blood of Mine is hysterical, John Corwin will make pee yourself laughing. His writing is superb, this is one series you do not want to miss.

A couple of my favorite quotes from SBoM is ...

"My eyelids felt like had tiny but chubby sleep faeries hanging on the lashes and pulling them closed"

"Nothing could make me pull away meat-market love goddess. My sexy little filet mignon"

"Tight dump on three" he said... "I have to drop a deuce on the count of three?"

So I'd been hearing so much good things about this from all my goodread's friends so I couldn't wait for it to come out.
I think one of the best things about this was having it from a male POV & written by a guy. I've read a couple of books by other authors that are from a guy's POV but still written by women, this gives us a rare glimpse into the workings of a teenage boy's head & it was really great fun.
It did take me a little while to get into this but once I did I flew through it, it really just kept getting better & better to the point where I need to get my hands on the sequel.....like now!

Justin Case is your typical nerd. After rescuing Katie, his long-time crush, from a bully, things are beginning to look up for Justin. But, after an unfortunate string of events, Justin "loses" Katie, what little social standing he had, and even his two best friends.

This is a book where no one is who they seem to be at first. Justin never quite knows throughout the story who his friends are, and he has to make the tough decision of who he can trust.

I love Justin. In the beginning of the book he was really just your average guy. Throughout the book, even though his whole world is going topsy-turvy, he still stayed true to himself and stands up for what he believes. I enjoyed watching him evolve over time, both physically and emotionally, throughout the story. He's an overall nice guy…definitely the kind of guy you want on your side in a fight.

I also love Elyssa. She seems so tough and unapproachable to Justin at first, but as he gets to know her he realizes she's just a person too…well, sort of. Elyssa has her own secrets and problems, but she, too, in the end decides that she has to stand up for what she knows is right.

Sweet Blood of Mine is a must read. John Corwin's writing style is seriously addicting and laugh-out-loud funny! I loved the humor in this book, and being inside Justin's head was so much fun. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Although Sweet Blood of Mine had great ratings from people whose opinions I generally agree with I was a little skeptical of the whole "nerd turned hottie" thing. But I loved this book! It's hilarious, it has great characters, and it kept me guessing the entire time.

I love Justin Case! I enjoyed his sarcasm, I really liked that despite the crap he was going through he decided to improve himself instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself. I like that he's a romantic. He tries to do the right thing and is a loyal friend.

Sweet Blood of Mine has a bunch of cool supernatural beings and adds something new to the genre (to me anyways). I would definitely recommend reading this book! I can't wait for Dark Light of Mine.

This was a 6-star read for me!

I was fortunate enough to beta read this book and ABSOLUTELY loved it. Not being a real fan of YA, I was concerned that I would dislike the story because I wouldn't be able to connect with the characters. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! I not only connected with the characters but the story captured my immediate attention. I couldn't put this book down. Corwin is witty and humorous and he crafted a delightfully engaging read...and who wouldn't love a book full of Princess Bride references.

I am eagerly anticipating book two in the series.

"Can't wait for blocking practice, Case.  I'm gonna show you pain."
I glanced at his nose.  "I think you already are showing me pain."

This book
I don't know what to say.
I'm kind of speechless.
I think this was one of the best books I've read this year :)
I'm doing a happy dance right now..

What I loved
Seriously?
I loved the whole book.

The imagination, the secenary, the characters.
I loved it all !
What about Elyssa's attitude? LOL, I loved that :D

"Delicate sensibilities, my rear end."  Menace filled Elyssa's voice.  "This had better not be a trick.  If I get a whiff of betrayal coming from your feline ass, I'm gonna shove my sword up it."

Another thing
Corwin did a good job on this novel.
This book literally had me laughing ;)

Bryan helped me up. "How can you be so good one minute then clumsy the next?"
I shrugged. "I've never been very athletic. Not unless you count fencing."
"You made fences?”

It had some things teenagers like me would say, like:

"Cool story, bro."  I was amazed how little her cruel remark fazed me.

My favourite secene
I cried.
Yes guys, I cried :'(

Before reading it :

"Wait, so you do love me?" I asked, hope welling in my heart.
She growled and pounded her fist into a locker, leaving a fist-shaped dent.  "Stop it, Justin.  Stop it!"
I grabbed her shoulders.  "Look at me and tell me you don't love me," I said.  "Do it and I'll never bother you again."
"I don't love you," she mumbled.
"Look at me when you say it!"
She turned to me, her eyes hard but dull and faded.  "I don't love you."
I let her go.  My heart turned to lead, the heavy lump sagging in my chest.  "Well, if there are agents out there looking to kill me, I guess it would be a mercy."
I turned to leave.  Her hand gripped my shoulder.
"Please listen to me, Justin."
I pushed her hand away but didn't turn to face her.  I couldn't let her see the tears welling in my eyes.  "Why?  What does it matter?"
"It just does.  I—I don't want to see you hurt."
I took a deep shuddering breath.  "You're not doing a very good job of it."  I walked away and left her standing there.

After reading it :

Crying Woman

Now
I'm gonna go cry in the corner right now..
I read the ending and I was so happy,
So happy I cried :')
This is a must read guys, a definite must read :D

Waiting..waiting..waiting for Dark Light of Mine..waiting..

I need to preface my review by saying I am not usually a Y/A fan but I ADORED this book.

Description:

From Mega Nerd to Super Stud.

Justin Case and women do not mix. Man boobs, a love of Kings and Castles, and being tight with the "nerd" crowd certainly don't win him any points either. After rescuing Katie, his crush, it turns out she might not be the girl he thought she was, while Elyssa, the school's Goth Girl, turns out to be more. Can high school get any more confusing?

My Thoughts:

The author has a wonderful gift of creating humour in any situation. His characters are well rounded and you connect with them, cheer for them and laugh with them. Mixing a coming of age story with a paranormal Y/A was genius. Justin goes thru all the angst of a teen in love with someone in accessible but realizes he needs to make changes in his life...boy did he change. Don't get me wrong this is not your usual Y/A where you feel the angst is an actual character. The story moves past it quickly and becomes action packed and moves quickly.

This is an ageless book...categorized as Y/A but is so much more. Don't miss out ..you NEED to read this. Can't wait for book 2...5 big bright stars for this series beginner.

I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review.

This book definitely wasn't like what I expected. I heard already some good things about this book, but it was better than expected. The story is about Justin Case (at the first mention of his name I already started laughing) a nerdy boy who's social live kinda sucks. He is on love with a girl who doens't love him and well he really is a nerd.

The first half of the story is mainly about getting to know Justin and how nerdy he is. I really had fun about all the nerdy jokes in the book. It was great. Normally the lead characters always are kinda cool already, but well Justin isn't. Until later on in the book you get the feeling that something more supernatural is going on. It still takes some time before we really know what is going on, only the last third of the book deals with the supenratural aspect. But i still enjoyed the whole story.

What I really liked about this book is that Justin case is just a normal person, well normal is maybe giving him too much credit, because he really is a nerd. He is like the last person to be a supernatural creature of some sort, but slowly in the book you see Justin chaging. This doens't go with jumps, but with tiny steps. I always like seeing character growth like this in a book. Also his relations with other characters grow or diminish.

The story itself is also very enjoyable. It was many twists and turns and while at some points it is very predictable it also conatins so many unpredictable elements. Overall it this is just a very funny and even a bit of a light read. I really enjoyed all the nerdy references and jokes in the first half in the book and seeing Justin develop and growing into a much stronger character than I expected he could be.

Except for the great main character and good story, this books also contains some action, romance and some slightly sexy scenes. It contains many different elements and still manages to come over as a light read. Another thing that i have to say about this book and maybe even about this authors writing style is that it is very original. this book is unlike any other book, while it certainy contains some common elements it is also very surprising and original most of the times. The only other book i've read from this author also had this same kind of originality, some known elements and a whole lot of unexpected and original ones.

To conclude: a very nice, original and enjoyable read. This book is a funny and light read, but still manage to have a great story and character development. I would certainly recommend reading it. And i am definitely looking forward to reading more about Justin and this supernatural world.

I read The Next Thing I Knew (Heavenly, #1) by John Corwin by this author and it was really original and a great read, so I snatched this book up, eager to see what this new series I've heard so much about in the group discussions was like.

From what I've read, book 2 in this series is going to be out soon, and book 3 is in the works, which is awesome since I can say without a doubt, this book is amazing.

Originality and World Building: 5/5 stars.

Although this is based a great deal in high school, the world outside the one Justin knows is so tantalizing and I love the use of paranormals that you don't hear of that much. I've read so many that seem like the same carbon copy of the last, and this one was fresh, with a new twist.

Romance: 5/5 stars.

While the other book of his I read didn't do so well on romance, this one blew me away. Seeing this through the eyes of a teenage guy who's bad with women and all the angst and determination to find his love was so refreshing. I actually cried during a couple of the scenes. Corwin really conveyed a depth and range of emotion that I just don't see that often.

Plot and Pacing: 5/5 stars.

From the start, this book pushed the action, romance, and all the right buttons, never seeming to hit a slow spot and the buildup near the end had me on edge. Great tension that just never let up!

Writing: 5/5 stars.

Extremely polished and professional. I really couldn't find anything that was clunky or unclear.

Characters: 5/5 stars.

Shelton was a total favorite of mine. He's a loveable jackass. Stacey was a close second. Such a wicked tease with a big heart. Elyssa and Justin were superb and his internal thoughts made me laugh out loud...a lot.

Overall: 5/5 stars.

Bottom line: Well written, fast pace, romance the way I love it.

If you're on the fence about this one, GET IT!!

I can't wait for the sequel. While everything was neatly tied up at the end, Corwin left plenty of clues that there's a lot more coming.

Sweet Blood of Mine has all the ingredients required for a great read! Man-boobs and hunks, nerds and goths, cheerleaders and football players, romance and deception...with a plethora of paranormals and mysterious undiscovered powers. Add in John Corwin's amazing sense of humor, and you have a book that you won't want to put down.

Justin is a high school kid whose life is very unexpectedly about to change. He transforms from a rather nerdy and mostly ignored kid with man-boobs to a reluctantly popular football star and chick magnet. What a shock for him!

He also discovers that many of the monsters that he always believed were fictional are actually real; and that true friendship often comes from the most unlikely of people...and where does he fit in to all this? That's part of the journey that is this book.

To sum it all up-romance, deception, paranormal powers, and a generous dose of laughter…Sweet Blood of Mine is a great read!

Can't wait to read the sequel...(hint-hint John!)

Nearly friendless overweight nerd Justin Case steps out on a limb when he decides to save the girl of his dreams from the clutches of the school bully. He finds himself totally friendless and ostracized after a very public beat down until the Goth group claims him as one of theirs. This unintentionally leads Justin to discover he isn't the average nearly friend-less overweight nerd that is only accepted by Goth's.

So begin's Justin's discovery of a new girl of his dreams in Katie, the reason that his homelife is the way that it is and why he needs to get on board quickly with his supernatural knowledge or suffer the consequences.

The sly humor and writing style keep the story moving and fun. The action and secondary characters work together to make Justin's world one you're anxious to revisit.

Remember that nerdy guy from high school? The one that needed a manzier and didn't mix with the popular crowd? Well, what if you found out there was more to him than meets the eye? Enter Justin Case.

Justin isn't popular by anyone's standards, and he's not athletic like the football jocks. But Justin has big dreams. Sweet dreams. He has heart. And he has a secret. Justin is really an incubus that has the power to seduce any woman around him. Sounds great, right? Not for someone who wants to hold out for true love and has no idea how to control his powers. Soon he's thrown into a total makeover, inside and out. There's a whole supernatural world out there that Justin has never seen, and he better open his eyes fast. There are plenty of things that go bump in the night that are happy to help solve all of his problems - permanently!

This is such a great book! It's well-written with fantastic characters. It's hilariously funny and heart-breakingly sweet all at the same time. There's action, mystery and a hero you just can't help but love. A great underdog story that will have you cheering for Justin from beginning to end. I can't wait to read more in the series!

I loved this book. Justin, the nerd, as the unlikely hero who despite all the obstacles and unexplained changes he experiences succeeds in staying true to himself. I loved Elyssia the mysterious Goth chick and the slow blossoming romance between her and Justin. Stacey the rough tongued mysterious supernatural female just made me giggle. There were countless laugh-out-loud moments in this book and the end for me was perfect. I can’t wait for the sequel!
My only complaint is to myself – why did I not pick this book up sooner???

I was excited to read this, as friends had given rave reviews. I love that the story is about a guy for a change, and a teenage one no less. Scary to be inside the mind of a teenage boy, right? Not Justin's. He's a romantic at heart, he's smart and creative and desperately in love with one of the 'pretty girls' in school. Oh, and he's frickin' hilarious.

"I stood in the doorway for a stunned moment, unsure if my skills as a Kings and Castles woodland elf had prepared me to take on a challenge like this." Problem is, he's also awkward, nerdy, and ummm...not physically appealing.

Quickly after Justin's story begins, he learns that something strange is going on with his body, his parents, and even some of the kids at school. He's somehow becoming attractive to the opposite sex. Like, waaay attractive. Even at the grocery store, his magnetism knows no bounds. My absolute favorite line in the entire book:

"Nothing could make me pull away from this meat-market love goddess. My sexy little filet mignon."

Problem is, Justin is a romantic. He doesn't want these random women. But what he can't figure out, aside from what the heck kind of supernatural junk is going on, is who he really wants to be with. The sweet, popular girl, or the weird, quirky girl that he is oddly drawn to? Amidst the dramatic teenage angst is a cast of paranormal freaks like none you've ever seen. There are so many vampire/werewolf novels out there, but this paranormal universe by Corwin is totally new, and multifaceted. Lines between good and evil are blurred, and there's no telling who the good guys really are. Or the bad guys, for that matter. I didn't even figure out what Justin was until well over halfway through the book.

Anyways, I'm beginning to ramble. I'm stoked that there are more in the series coming. While this book did answer a lot of questions, there are still so many secondary characters and creepy supernatural beings that we have yet to really come to know. Such a fabulous addition to the paranormal YA scene!

March 2, 2012
I absolutely loved this book. It is the first in a series and the main character, Justin Case is a 17 year-old chubby nerd. He goes to a highschool that worships the football players, so pretty much they get away with murder and rule the school...similar to most American highschools but multiply it by 10. He has two "friends" that pretty much prove very early on in the story that they are fair-weather friends and when he tries to protect the "love of his life" from one of the football players he finds himself ostracized by almost the entire school, including the pretty popular girl of his dreams. Into the picture walks the "Goth" chick and her two "Goth" guy friends and Justin will finally get to see what it means to have real friends. Add into all this highschool drama the fact that Justin isn't all he appears to be and the supernatural world comes crashing through his life like a hurricane and you've got yourself one fantastic story. Sweet Blood of Mine shakes up the paranormal romance genre with action packed chapters and a great cast of characters that will leave you wanting more by the end.

Incredible...I so want more. I love the idea of a geeky, chunky, unpopular character who doesn't let other people or situations change who he is. Justin's mom leaves, his dad ends up in a drunken stupor or isn't home, and he ends up going through some changes after getting drunk and alienating himself from his friends. Alone with no clue he somehow manages to persevere.

Awesome adventure, a must read!!

This book was not at all what I expected. I know I could have guessed that just by reading the blurb and all, but even after reading the blurb I still think I was expecting the average YA paranormal novel. This wasn’t it. I mean, talk about a loser. Justin starts the book as a pudgy nerd who spends his free time beating up other nerds with foam swords in nerdy live action battles. I can honestly say that this is not someone I would expect to see as a protagonist for a kick ass, action packed book. But at the same time, you can’t help but love him.

Not only am I giving the author an A for originality (I have never read a book with a premise quite like this one) but I’m giving him an A for carrying out the whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” moral as well. I love to see a YA book that carries a good message, but its not a message that’s hammered into you. Its just there. And you can’t help but pick it up due to your love of the characters. I loved reading a book with a male lead, written my a male author (so basically, a believable male lead). And the male lead is an average guy (well, he starts pretty average anyway). And not like a boy-next-door-i’m-so-cute-but-i-don’t-know-i’m-cute lead. A seriously average guy. Basically, I thought the whole premise was very refreshing.

The book did have some slow points though. In building the character and showing us just how average he was, the start of the book dragged a little. And it dragged again when there were pages of football talk. I know this might be exciting for football fans, but as someone who can’t stand the sport, I had to skim through some of those parts.

Overall, I thought this was a highly original book and I’ll be looking forward to the next in the series.

I really enjoyed this book! I was able to relate with the hero, Justin, and his underdog status from the beginning and found myself cheering him on. The friendship he develops with the 'Goth' group in the beginning creates a theme we start to see about basically not judging others on looks or preconceived notions. This can be applied in the natural world and supernatural world. Justin's relationship with Elyssa is heartwarming and real and it tugged on my heartstrings when truths were revealed and old traditions and ideals were keeping them apart. There was mystery and suspense and I had a hard time putting the book down and found myself thinking about the characters when I wasn't reading. That's when I know I'm really hooked! The writing style was so humorous, but intelligent. I was cracking up quite frequently and being drawn into a realm that was created so vividly. Finally, how can you not love a teenage boy whose favorite movie is the Princess Bride? I LOVED all the movie references that were tied into the story! I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

4.5 stars! I received this book via Shut Up & Read. I thought this book was pretty awesome.

Justin Case is the huge nerd complete with dumpy figure, coke bottle glasses, two friends total, grades through the roof, a low self-esteem and a crush on the popular hottie, Katie. He and his friends love to play a modern day kind of D & D for fun and try to blend in to the background. He has a good home life with loving parents that actually gross him out with all the kissing and snuggling. :)

Justin begins to get these blinding migraines that last seconds but feel like eternity. He attributes them to growing pains and ignores them, telling no one. One day, he hears a girl scream. Turns out it's Katie, HIS Katie, with the star quarterback trying to force himself upon her. Justin comes to the rescue, as best as he knows how. This incident is just the beginning...turns out these headaches are definitely growing pains, but growing pains of the adolescent supernatural being! Things go in the toilet fast.

Katie is out, parents split, dad is drinking himself into a stupor and then begins to disappear for long stretches of time, new creatures appear, and a new girl, Elyssa, injects herself into his life. Justin has much to adjust to, including his new body and powers. Will Katie always be is one true love or is Elyssa good enough to take that place in his heart? You'll have to read to find out.

I really enjoyed this book. Thank you to John Corwin and Shut Up & Read for the opportunity to read this book!!

5 fucking solid stars. If I could go any higher on the scale, I would have given it a 6. Hell, I'll go and do that. 6 stars. It's that good. I recommend to it lovers of Young Adult fiction and paranormal romance lovers. To the supporters of the underdog and nerdy hero who just can't cut a break in life, this is for you. This is truly awesomeness in word-form. I can't believe the author is self-published. It's amazing how good Sweet Blood of Mine is. It's funny, witty and downright touches your heart (my heart nearly stopped at one point where a major change in relationship status occurred). The romance is realistic. It builds up over time. It's not spontaneous like most YA novels. There isn't any "I want to be with you and I have no real idea why, but the author wants me to do it to further the plot".

So put down that shallow, and predictable mainstream love triangle crap you've been reading about angsty bitches who have it all and just can't see it. The one about the heroine who pines after that dark and mysterious new guy for no real reason other than good looks alone and a mysterious "attraction" she can't explain. Pick up this book instead. You have to read it to find out for yourself, and I assure you, you won't regret it.

I'm not sure where to begin praising this book. It has so many great things about it.

The main character is so hilarious, for one thing, not to mention very likeable. I found I could relate to him, all his insecurities, but what I really liked was his determination to never give up or give in, no matter how bad things looked. It was that strength of character that really shined through to me.

The other characters are also standouts, each one different, sharp and enjoyable in in their own rights. No cardboard cutout characters to be found in this book.

The romance was just amazing and I loved Elyssa. This book proves you can have great romance and action. Even moreso, it's yet another amazing YA book that transcends that age group and I think can appeal to older groups. This romance was just plain sexy and it really touched me.

I tried to think of any negative aspects about this book, but I sure couldn't remember any. I definitely recommend this one!

After reading it I did some searching and found out that book #2 is on the way!!

*HAPPY JIG!!*

This has to be one of the best YA/PNR books that I have ever read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I look forward to reading the entire series or better yet, anything written by John Corwin. The author has developed some incredibly realistic & not to mention clever characters.. There wasn't one single solitary slow moment in this book, and as a matter of fact, the more pages you read, the more you'll get sucked into it. If it wasn't for work, errands, etc, I would have finished this book in 3 hours flat.

It was just that good.

I highly recommend this book, and I can just about guarantee that if you buy it, you will not regret it.

Thanks to John Corwin & tt for for the review copy. This was truly a pleasant surprise.

6 Stars for a book that was written with passion and excellence.

I've read other books by this author, but this one was the best by far.

It's the story of a nerd who suddenly becomes painfully self-aware of where he is in life and takes action to correct it. But life has some serious surprises in store for him!

The characters in this book are great and each one stood out to me very vividly and the romance actually made me tear up a few times. Oh, and the Princess Bride RULES!!

I also loved how fresh the paranormal ingredients were in this book and the world he created.

Read this book. You won't be sorry!

This was a great book! A great choice for the May reading! The book was so funny and the main character, Justin, says some of the craziest things! Reminds me of my son without the demon part! LOL!!

At the end of the book the author teases you with a smidgen of the next book in the series; I hope it come out quickly! I don't want to wait till next year!

I really like this book; it jumps right into the story with great description. You will instantly get to know the main character. The story flows nonstop with a great storyline. I devoured this book in two sitting (it had me not wanting to put it down until the end). I am looking forward the next book in this series. Bottom line would I recommend this book? Yes!!!

This book was filled with a ton of AWESOME witty comebacks and sayings. I found myself laughing out loud through many sections. I was a bit on the fence on this book because of a couple different things, but it certainly was a funny read and most definitely different. There were so many different types of “creatures”…it was kind of awesome.

Disclaimers and such: I received this book from the group on Goodreads called: “Shut Up & Read” in their Read It & Reap section. So although, I received this book for free in exchange for a review, all thoughts are my own.

So first of all, this book is downright hilarious. The wittiness, the comments…it was just great to read something that was truly sarcastic and actually funny. That meant I took a lot of “screen shots” of some funny sections on my iPad while I read…I had to pick a couple favorites to put up here!

I stood in the doorway for a stunned moment, unsure if my skills as Kings and Castles woodland elf had prepared me to take on a challenge like this. Nathan could pass for an ogre. His neck had more girth than one of my legs, which was probably why he was an all-star football player. It meant suicide to attack that monster.

And…

A warm hand touched my neck. I shrieked like a little girl in a helium factory. Stacey stood behind me. Just great. Now they’d have a video of me screaming too.

Secondly, I felt the book was a little disjointed…written in two sections. The first half is this nerd being super bullied and not just by the football jocks…it was administrators, teachers, coaches…they ALL seemed to have it in for Justin. The second half I felt was the section where he finds out who he is, who his girlfriend is, who his dad is, who his mom is, etc. etc. etc. It’s as though, just about everyone he knew really wasn’t human. It was a little disorienting to place a character and then have to change it all up halfway through the book.

Thirdly, I don’t mind a little sexual tension or angst with my characters, but downright sexual conduct I guess is a bit much for me. A teenager visiting a strip club or being able to “connect” to females and have them want to rip his clothes off…was a bit much to read. Props though for the fact that Justin totally wanted to save his “v” card for a special moment and never actually progressed to anything past making out or groping.

If this were a movie, it’d probably a really strong PG-13 or even an R do to the sexual content and couple nudity scenes. A LOT of people loved this book and if it weren’t for the strong sexual content…I totally would too. Like I said earlier…the comments, wittiness…it was hilarious to read. If you read it, PLEASE let me know what you think. After reading a log of other reviews, I feel like the wet blanket…haha!

Myst~
