J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I just voted and we are still behind. It just kills me that we are up against that most excellent Christie Capps cover. That is just wrong.

message 805: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments I agree. I do love that cover also but made a choice to support the larger number of authors. Sorry, Joy.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Okay, venting alert!

This is the third book in a row (in all honesty, one of the previous two was NOT JAFF) where I was happily reading and immersed in an excellent story when the hero or heroine has thoughts to the effect of "if it weren't happening to him/her, he/she would think it was something out of a novel."

AAARRRGGGHHH!! But it IS a novel!! And now I'm reminded that it's a novel, and my happy state of immersion is ruined for the moment!!

Why do so many writers, even good ones, seem to think this is a clever little observation? Does this annoy the sh*t out of anyone else, or am I just overreacting here?

message 808: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments It's OK.... take a deep breath... they think it is cute and just don't realize how annoying it is. You will be OK... just breathe, in and out.

Yes, I was just yesterday reading one in which the author talks to the reader...I am laughing...explaining how things are...really?!

message 810: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Would somebody please tell them how disruptive it is to a pleasurable reading experience? How do we get the word out so these otherwise brilliant authors would stop doing this?

And yes, Jeanne... I'm breathing. Perhaps huffing a bit, too, but it's not as though I'm having a temper tantrum and holding my breath until I turn blue. Lots of breathing going on here. Oh, and perhaps some growling. Yeah, that's what that sound is, and it's coming from me, so that proves I'm definitely breathing...

I was reading the story description and several of the reviews. This story looks to be very disturbing to one's peace of mind. Insane thought?

I had high hopes for this but was disappointed. It ended at an akwardplace in the story to only be told that there was a pt 2, but not when it would be released. Bummer

this was very short and left many threads hanging which is why I gave it 3 stars. it would have gotten a 5 star if it would have finished those loose ends

We do run into those types of stories once in awhile. Thankfully not too often but it still counts as another book off the pile.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments We had a super time in NYC with The Making of Jane Austen. Met two more authors and the talk was attended by a large group/fairly even number of men and women...mostly older adults, not too many YA.

I believe these were the two other authors there. Kirk, Claudine...do I have that right?
