“A smart man makes a mistake, learns from it, and never makes that mistake again. But a wise man finds a smart man and learns from him how to avoid the mistake altogether.” Roy H. Williams
AHHH! Be still my heart. Oh man, WadeH sure knows how to phrase a set-down that will curl your toes. I loved this small window of time. Our story is post-Hunsford and Darcy has brought Bingley back to Netherfield. They have made a call at Longbourn and are visiting with the Bennet ladies.
Cute, clean, and packing a punch to the gut. Fan points for sure. Jane calmly stood and gave Bingley a set-down he’ll never forget and told him to go back to London. The poor man didn’t know what hit him. She then turned and calmly walked out of the room but not before telling him to take his pernicious sisters with him.
Mrs. Bennet nearly had a conniption fit… or for her a case of her nerves and ran after her. Poor Bingley turned to Darcy and they didn’t know what to do. Before they could leave, Lizzy slowly stood and began to explain, in great detail, just what Jane had meant by her comments. Oh, how lovely.
WadeH used the power of words to draw the reader into the action. I actually found myself leaning toward my reader as I read Lizzy’s explanation. I nearly groaned as she took minute steps toward the two gentlemen with her eyes focused on Darcy and his on her. Oh, my… I finally released the breath I didn’t realize I was holding. Whew! I now need my salts.
1st read: 10-13-17 2nd read: 10-14-17 Revised rating: I'm sorry... I absolutely love this short by WadeH. I had to change it from 4 stars to 5 stars. It is adorable and the best B&J set-down and the best D&E prelude to... you'll just have to read it. It will only take a few minutes. Read it!! I read it again today... I just love it. 3rd read: 10-29-18. Read it again, still good. 4th read: 7-19-19 heavy sigh! 5th read 3-16-23 fan points, whew!
Here when Bingley returns to Netherfield Jane delivers an brilliant un-Jane-like set down that causes some fascination reactions and astounds the room. It gives Lizzy a chance to explain Jane's position as well as express herself to Mr.Darcy. So sweet, so cute, so lovely
Wonderful,deceptively clever,captivating and highly recommended!
Receiving a verbal set down from Jane, Bingley and Darcy are faced with little choice but to depart from the Bennets' parlour with their collective wishes and dreams in tatters.....unless someone has the courage of their convictions and utters words that would melt the hardest hearts and explain and atone for past errors in judgement,in a language known only to two kindred spirits! Swoon worthy!!
Just because this is a super short one-shot doesn't mean it's not awesome. You assume all the events of Pride and Prejudice have taken place right up to when Bingley and Darcy return to Longbourn. Jane's reaction will knock your socks off, only to be topped by Elizabeth.
This wonderful Pride and Prejudice "missing scene" features Jane with a backbone, an enlightened Bingley, a ecstatic Darcy, and one Miss Elizabeth Bennet with an amazing use of words.
This is a short book or a long paragraph. I actually liked how Jane voiced her emotions to Bingley always like to see the "angel" with spirit. It is a neat take on how Lizzy plays the enhancer and swoops behind Janes declaration to enlighten the two knuckleheads ( Darcy & Bingley)on the importance of Janes speech.
It's like you saw the light bulb click on and it left me laughing. The two were like," oh... So she's not dismissing me." They had the part of a hard headed man down pat imo. 😂 I also love how Darcy and Lizzy resolved their differences just disappointed we didn't get to see more. Enjoy
Wade H stories are often dialogue heavy, and the conversations tend to revolve around some sort of a gimmicky point of exposition and might not be exchanges that people are likely to organically have. But always clever and amusing.
