I was just thinking of this book earlier today when talking with a friend about Hawthorne works I liked better than The Scarlet Letter (which is almost all of his stories!).
I enjoyed The House of the Seven Gables, but I also like The Scarlet Letter. The Blithedale Romance is not as good as these two.
I had no idea what to expect from The Blithedale Romance, and thus enjoyed it. Perhaps it was because I already knew the plot of The Scarlet Letter that I thought it too slow in many parts. Still, The Scarlet Letter is an American classic.
