Yup! Seems you are right, Heather! I didn't click on the books. I just did the search. But I did just now for a few of them and they were all unavailable.

They are just books that were way back in my library that I either double bought from ARe and Amazon or whatever. All of them are on my Kindle and that is what I am actually using to back up all my books on Calibre right now since ARe is moving so slow. I thought if someone wanted them then I'd attempt to send them.

Ah, okay :)
You can try but I would inform the person(s) you want to gift to so they can download them right away. I'd still say send them via email. You've bought them twice so you are not cheating authors of their money or anything and you can be sure the person(s) actually get the books.

I have been gifting books already in my library but not downloaded and haven't had a problem as yet. Though you definitely need to have the person on the other end ready and waiting to download.

I had some great books in there that I had just purchased with the plan to gift them over New Years only to see them disappear with this announcement. They were major pub books like Outlander, so they went poof first. :(

I lost 4 in my library from last night until tonight - one I figured out, the other three? Don't know, hope it's backed up. [None of the books I received during this year's SS]

After FW went away, I religiously download my books as soon as I buy and I found I'd only missed a couple - one was Dark Space that I got from my SS last year - that would have pissed me off.

Another reason to be annoyed with the closing of ARe, it unfortunately means that for me participating in future Secret Santa events is going to be almost impossible as Amazon won't gift in the UK and I can't buy at Amazon US to gift to others.

Okay, this is trivial compared to how they have screwed over the authors/publishers and customers who have paid for pre-orders and have outstanding ebucks, but it's frustrating as I really enjoy this event!

You can gift from riptide directly and dreamspinner is working on something too, so don't give up!

I'm not sure. I don't think they can support gifting yet.

Actually, I remember now.

Kobo is international. And you are allowed to "travel" for discounts (just change your country of origin in settings). Totally forgot about it. Haven't bought from them in a long time.

I think in the end I only lost 3 books. One I'm a bit miffed about but I found the receipt so I may try contacting the author. Another I have the receipt. The other one, can't find the receipt and not sure how much I want to push it.
