Q&A with Emma Chase *CLOSED*

Thanks :) much love <3

Hi Michelle - thanks for the question! The answer is: both.
Some of my favorite, funny lines have just popped into my head one day. I'm not sure where they come from, but I'm always thrilled when they show up.
Also, my family is very smart, outspoken and slightly insane. My husband is the funniest man I've ever known, with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor (like all my leading male characters). Our children are wonderfully clever and smart-mouthed (sometimes good, sometimes not-so-good) and my cousins, aunts and uncles are loud, plentiful and always up in each other's business. It's never boring ;)

Where you always wanted to be a writer or did that just happened overtime? Also, I admire an auth..."
Hi Loyda,
Thanks for having me - I'm excited to be here! Yes, I always wanted to be a writer, but I was practical about it. When I was eleven I told my aunt I wanted to be a lawyer - but being an author would be my "side job". Now I get to write stories about lawyers, among other professions, which is really the best of all worlds. And thank you - so happy you've enjoyed my guy POV's. Growing up, my closest friends were a group of guys, so being around them all the time, talking to them, hearing their thoughts and opinions on things kind of changed the way I look at certain situations and makes it really fun and spontaneous to slip into that voice. Also, when I write from the male POV, it feels like it's not really "me" saying and thinking these things - it's "them" - which makes my writing much more bold and free and irreverent. "They" say and think things that "I" wouldn't - which translates into really entertaining characters and stories. It sounds a little strange, but it works for me :)

Hi Maureen,
Each of my books are a favorite in their own way, for different reasons. But - if someone could absolutely only read 1 of my books and I had to tell them which one...it would be either Tangled or Sustained. They're a tie for me.
Happy reading!

Hello Amanda!! Great to hear from you and so happy to know you've enjoyed my books! Growing up, I was very close with a group of guys who were really funny and crazy and irreverent and loyal. When I write in the male POV, I don't specifically mimic any one of them, but I kind of channel all of them at the same time - little thoughts or opinions or things they may have said through the years. Also, the male characters are so fun and different from me, it makes it easy to not hold back or be self-conscious about anything they think or say. My guy characters are fearless and confident, but they're still human - they have the same feelings as a female character, but they do express them differently. More directly, I think - and in less complicated terms. What I also think makes it work, is that my guy characters are able to interpret what the female characters are feeling - through their expressions and body language and tone of voice. In these descriptions, the reader understands what the other character is thinking and feeling (even if the silly guy character gets it wrong - looking at you Drew), which really rounds out the story even without the girl's POV.
xoxo

Hi! Thanks for your question! Tangled was the most fun to write because there were no expectations. I wrote it simply because I loved the story and the characters (Drew was every bit as hilarious to write as he was to read).
The easiest book was Sustained because I was so confident in the storyline and the characters. I knew exactly who Jake was, exactly how the story was going to go, and the kids and Chelsea were such a joy - I was sure my readers would fall in love with them, just like Jake did.
The hardest book to write was Tamed. Matthew was the first male POV I wrote who wasn't Drew Evans and I wanted him to be funny and entertaining - but he needed to be distinct from Drew at the same time - and I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. (though I was very happy with how the book and Matthew's POV turned out).
xo

Is there one author that inspired you to become an author or that has inspired you since becoming an author?"
Hi Melissa! I've been in love with reading literally my entire life and I think that love is really what made me want to be an author - to create the kinds of stories that readers could just completely fall into the same way I fell every time I opened a new book.
But recently, I read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, and at 3 am when I finished (on the couch, crying, with my dogs licking at my tears), I remember thinking, 'this is why I love reading' and at the same time feeling so inspired to write something with all those delicious feels. xoxo

I have many! But...I will read anything and everything Johanna Lindsey writes. It could be a grocery list and I would read it!!

Hi! The HEA ending is my favorite. It's actually the scene that's most clear in my head when I start writing a story. I find introducing characters to readers in the beginning a bit challenging, because I want them to know everything about them right away, lol. But it doesn't work like that. Although - I think that's probably why a few of my books start in the middle, then jump back in time to catch up - because that way, we can just dive right into the action and readers already kind of feel like they know and are invested in the characters :)

I absolutely love your writing! I have read them all multiple times. I want to know if you have entertained writing a spin-off from Legal Briefs with the children grown up or in college? I really loved all those characters so much and there was just a hint of something getting started with the teens in Sidebarred. Thanks Sara

I completely adored both the Tangled and Legal Briefs series. I find your writing something I want immediately go back to, when I've read something really hard, heavy and gritty, or not so pleasant...cause I do read some stuff like that. I write darker as well, so I love getting lost and laughing, and falling for your writing. So to say I'm looking forward to Royally Screwed is an understament. My brain cannot wait for more Chase words.
My question is this. When you're in a writing funk, and you just can't seem to write yourself out of it, what do you do? Also, have you ever had characters that, you need them to go one way, and they absolutely refuse to do it, no matter how many times you write it out? I do. Only, mine's partly biographical. So I can't take a lot of license in what they do. Lol Thanks, in advance, for taking the time to answer.

My question is, Do you ever get stuck writing a certain scene, like the characters just aren't cooperating, if so, how do you handle that?
Also, do you listen to music when you write? I see a lot of authors do that. I can't listen to music while I'm reading, I want no distractions. Lol!
Thanks.

I was just wondering if you are going to come down to Australia for a book signing? I love all your books and would love to meet you in person. I love Drew, Tangled still one of my all time favourites. It would be awesome to finally meet one of my favourite authors.

I would love to write books myself but I'm just horrible with writing down my own thoughts. That's why I'll always be a reader =)
Do you prefer reading series or standalone books? I love series when the characters are so interesting that I want to have more of them but the wait for the next book is always killing me =P

I'm pretty sure when I started commenting I only had one question in my head :)

Greetings from Romania :)
I'm a huge fan. I love all your books!
My question for you is: would you come to Romania to meet your fans? Thank you for this giveaway! Wish I could win them all!

I loved both series! Drew will always be my personal favorite due how I was introduced him first as *winks*
My question is this - Where you a lawyer before you became a writer? Or thinking about it? You seem pretty knowledgeable in that area, so I've always wondered if you were or not?
In any case, sorry if this question was already asked (I did not read the question before hand - too long!) & I hope to catch up and meet you in person one day soon? Hopefully at a book signing in NYC? In 2017 perhaps? So, I guess you can say I asked an easy question and posed a harder one. lol

Brent and Kennedy are my favorite couple from your Legal Brief Series! I can't wait to read your next series. Is there any chance you will write the stories of the kids from your Tangled series and or Legal Brief series? Many thanks and hope one day you will do a book signing in Canada.

My question:
You write really great characters with believable motivation, perfect dialogue and credible backstories. Where do you get your inspiration for them. Do they always come easy and how long do you tend to work on their back stories?
Thank you! xoxox

I wanted to know how you come up with character names for your books?
As well as what inspires you to write a book?
Thanks :-)

Last question, what can I expect from your new series?

I'm sad to say Drew is the only one of your heroes I've met, though I do have the first 2 Legal Briefs books just waiting for me! Drew was amazing :)

I haven't read any of your books yet, but I'm planning on it. I'm especially waiting for Royally Screwed to come out, cause I can't seem to forget about it, since I read the synopsis!! I don't have any questions yet, but I'm sure I will once I start reading your books!!

Welcome to another NABC Q&A! For the next two weeks, we have the lovely, New York Times bestselling author, Emma Chase joining us and answering your questions!
Emma Chase lives ..."
Hey there, Emma. I was wondering what you do for writer's block if you get it? Also do you listen to any music while your writing?

Okay, question, if you would be isolated in a cabin on the woods, which of your heroes would you be glad to be with and why :)

Do you watch TV if so what type of shows do you like to watch?

Hi Angela!
This summer has gone so fast!! It's a good one, but quick! The last beach I visited was Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico :)

Hi Leslie!
I love Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, The Malory Series by Johanna Lindsey (favorite is Gentle Rogue), The Bride, The Wedding, Saving Grace and pretty much all of Julie Garwood's historicals. I'm currently rereading Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas. I love every book in Joanna Wylde's Reaper series, the Beautiful series by Christina Lauren (My favorite is Beautiful Stranger), and the Original Sinner's series by Tiffany Reisz.
