OK, so here's my tip (from a black person who wears her hair straight sometimes in the summer) there's a brand Mizani that has a humidity guard spray that I live for. It does wonders for frizz in in my hair, and my hair will stay straight until I wash it without a single frizz.

Get a large vat of gel and go full fohawk.

I'm back from New Orleans and a vendor conference. I think they paid well over a grand for me to eat and drink for 4 days. I'm so tired now. Going from place to place listening to all the live music was terrific as was the variety. We'd be at a place playing NO style jazz and the next place would be a blues bar, the next a cover band doing Michael Jackson, Kool and the Gang and Aretha Franklin, the next a rock cover band and on it went.

The people watching was also awesome. You would see, especially young women, come into a bar and be timid and within minutes transform into party animals because they were in NO and supposed to be wild.

Food was off the charts. Oysters every night prepared a different way. Po boys, Mahi Mahi, Salmon, sausages...cajun everything......

Now time for D&D, no not dungeons and dragons, detox and diet. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. You are making me homesick with all the food talk. I need a shrimp po boy.

We went to the Acme Oyster House the first night. Insanely good. I
had some deluxe po boy with oysters, shrimp, scallops....the charred oysters were terrific as well. I think this place had the best po boys and oysters of any place we went.

Arnauds was the most expensive place we went. I cannot imagine that bill.

@beste, yanique- I gave up on straightening my hair, plan is to do hot rollers for the back that isn’t done in victory rolls. I think I’ll just do a dry shampoo to make my hair rougher etc, tease it a little and hopefully it’ll stay better in the pins. Well... I’d better get up and make my dress for the wedding 😂

How was your wedding Anni? We had tons of fun and I stayed up way too late throwing down on the dance floor

message 2658: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I dont know why but you talking about the dance floor brings back memories of my last days in secondary school when I went to prom and how much of a terrible dancer I was :) :) :)

You should see asian weddings they might be long but they can be pretty live until the next day your on the toilet after eating 5 dishes of Curry :) :) :)

It was amazing and I also stayed up far too long, the next day I was incredibly unproductive :D I guess I'm getting old...
After trying different things (and failing...) I just put my hair out of my face with a Satin ribbon and currled it a little. I managed to loose the point of my heal while taking the group picture and wear flat shoes the rest of the evening (which actually might've saved me from breaking my bones because I'm a little clumsy :D )

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Today was interesting since it was the royal wedding I didn’t watch most of it since I spent most of my time being lazy today but I just found out that the suits cast (brides was an actress in it and I live the show) was invited to the wedding and that was probably the best part about the wedding

Anyone else tune in or is everyone in the don’t care bandwagon 😂😂😂😂 I wasn’t fussed either but thought I would tune in for a bit

Didn’t watch it. Have to endure everyone complaining about her dress on the internet like they could’ve done a better job of it and still met the royal requirements

message 2669: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments True meanwhile here we were just complaining about the costs of the wedding since the brits have got there priorities straight and how little we care about a royal wedding yet we still talk about it on social media 😂😂😂😂

message 2670: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
Yeah that’s total bs. Nobody paid for my wedding but me. The people shouldn’t have to pay for someone else’s nuptials

message 2671: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Yeah well that's the royal family for you despite being german they can call the shots if they want to but hey at least they bring in that juicy tourist money

message 2672: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Actually that thought made me think of this play I heard about set in an alternate future where the queen died and Charles was named king and after some issues in England Charles decided to dissolve parliament causing a bit of chaos not sure if there power extends to that but it is scary if it does happen (especially when a lot of people on the internet agree with it)

message 2673: by Shaitarn (new)

Shaitarn | 2185 comments @ Ahdam Please, Ahdam, do me a favour and drop all the 'the royal family are german' rubbish. The last member of the royal family born in Germany was Prince Albert, Victoria's husband (the current queen's great great grandfather I think).

I'm not a royalist (I don't give a rats about the royal family and didn't bother watching the wedding) and I don't want to start an argument but this kind of lazy misrepresentation drives me up the wall. It's about as realistic as calling that great orange galumph Trump german.

message 2674: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Don’t worry it’s just a joke I hear it a lot but I don’t really care about going in it too much anyway yeah you can call me if ignorant for not looking into it but I won’t make that joke again if it’s a bit disrespectful

message 2675: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I do t think I was clear I don’t actually believe it or judge the family because of it I just heard about it a lot on the internet by people who hate the monarchy and all that so throwing it in as a joke guess made sense in my head but yeah

message 2676: by Andrew (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Wait, there was a royal wedding yesterday? :o

message 2681: by Shaitarn (new)

Shaitarn | 2185 comments @Adham Sorry, I probably over-reacted there. It just bugged me because it's such a stupidly untrue thing to say (and there are plenty of other things that family can be accused of). I mean, if someone came from a family that had moved to this country five generations ago and they identified as British, it would be offensive to call them anything else, wouldn't it?

Now if you want to say the whole wedding was a waste of time and why didn't they pay for it themselves anyway - well, I wouldn't argue about that!

message 2682: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Yeah I understand that since I’ve mingled in a few extreme right wing communities on the internet who can be hostile in terms of race and nationality and some of the stuff they spout is just fear mongering pieces of paranoia used to make themselves feel better since the enemy is the other side and I rather not go political so I’ll end it here

Speaking on another note I had a small debate with my family about British culture since they argue that the British have no culture since they colonised the world and all that and it was pretty heated since I was against the notion and I honk what I took away from it was how little we know what culture actually is

I’m wondering if the brits can help me out here do you guys have a culture at all that you didn’t steal from other countries? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 because the shitshow was definitely real 😂

message 2683: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Not a Brit, but a white person living in a colonized country. I will say that marginalizing others is our main culture.

Just deleted well over half of my message about how awful we have been to our aboriginal people cause I could never do it justice.

I'm jealous Iain. I live in the UK and news of it has been rammed down our throats since the engagement. I have to scrape up interest in weddings happening in my own extended family, why should I care about a wedding in happening in some strangers family as well.

I like that the royal family can now marry for love instead of duty but come on, programmes dedicated to what the weather was like on the Charles/Diana compared to Harry/Megan's is just too much.

So.... I'm curious.

How many of us on here read manga or graphic novels/comics?

Do you consider those fantasy world's and characters when you think about your favourite fantasy books/worlds?

message 2690: by Virginie (last edited May 20, 2018 12:04PM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments I read a lot of mangas, mainly fantasy. I know Petrik do too.

I don't consider those when thinking of my favorites worlds. Or rather, I don't lump 'em with books. The process of imagining worlds or experiencing them with drawings is very different IMO.

When it comes to favorite characters though... Yes, definitely.

Ugh, I hate discussion like this because they run the risk of things being misinterpreted and sounding like racism, and what exactly do you consider 'culture'? The stories people tell, the sport they play or the food they eat? But yes, I would say the British certainly had their own culture, compromised of many layers from the celts, romans, Saxons and the normans.

Arthurian myth and Chaucer both pre-date British expansion, as do Bede and Caedmon, the first named English poet (born around 657 AD), although I suppose Taliesin could claim that honour, but he's more of a legendary figure. Shakespeare was writing his plays before the British arrived in India.

As for sport - well, the rules for football, cricket, rugby and boxing were all decided here in England.

And seriously, try telling someone from Scotland that they 'appropriated' the haggis from elsewhere and I reckon you may get a 'Glasgow kiss'! Don't do it!

message 2692: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I’ve never read manga but I have read a few graphic novels such as the saga 1-3,white sand, kingsman secret service as well as brodys ghost which was pretty decent

I think they’re considered fantasy sci fi they may not believe normal books but if they have those elements then it is fantasy and all the that

message 2693: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments @shaitarn don’t worry I think you got the point across fine and that was the problem I had with the debate was the definition of culture as it was limited to stuff like food and all that which is a shame because there are probably people out there who see one culture better than the other even though that stuff is entirely subjective and isn’t something you put down as fact if you know what I mean

message 2694: by Shaitarn (new)

Shaitarn | 2185 comments @ Ahdam I think all cultures learn from each other, don't they? (or 'steal' if you prefer). Look at the ancient Romans: a lot of their culture, including their gods, was lifted wholesale from the Greeks.

I think most cultures are constantly evolving and adapting: look at the fusion cuisine we have now, for example. I suspect most people are comfortable with what they know - it isn't better, but it's familiar.
