Lost Metal's the one Sanderson said "from here on out, the gloves are off" as far as cosmere connections are concerned...
Hmmm... I might post the Cosmere idea in the invite thread, and see who bites...I'll give it a few days though... don't want to scare people with two big series at once... see what Dune stirs up...

Does anyone use color e book readers like Kobo Color or Kindle colorsoft? Worth it? Any recommendations?I majorly read hard copies or kindle. Read graphic novels quite a bit and so far have been doing so on my ipad (which is dying :D).
P.S.: We don't have kindle colorsoft in India, so will have to get it from the US.
I have a Kobo Clara Color which I bought as a backup to my Kobo Aura. I still prefer my Aura, but then I'm more used to it and the software displays my book formatting choices better.I'll put my ebooks with art on my Clara, and it's pretty cool to be able to admire them in color rather than black and white. The Devils, Sanderson's Secret Projects... sometimes I'll search for fanart and add it to my epubs for the experience.
Otherwise, the reading experience is fairly similar. The touchscreen on the Clara is a bit more sensitive than my Aura, with better refresh time. But it also has slightly shorter battery life for use. I probably have to charge it once every 1-2 weeks, while my Aura is more like 3-4 weeks (and this is with reading 1-2 books a week). The Clara also has more bugs than the Aura... or maybe I should say different bugs. Every now and then the Clara will tell me I don't have authorization to read my sideloaded books, but plugging it in to the computer usually solves that. Every now and then my Aura freezes and I have to hard restart it.
The base page color on the Clara is slightly more yellow than on my Aura, and so color images are also slightly darker than they appear on my computer and not quite as sharp as a black and white. I don't really use the highlight feature much, but the colors are nifty. If you like to mark up the book, being able to choose color differences in highlighting might be useful.
Ultimately, it's a toss up though. I got it because the prices were pretty much the same between color & B&W when I was looking for a backup ereader, and I decided to try something different rather than more of the same. If I'd been able to buy the exact same model as my Aura, I probably would've gotten that instead. The color is a novelty and fun, but it doesn't affect the reading experience for me. I haven't tried reading a graphic novel or manga or anything--the book screen is a bit smaller than a typical manga size, but the resolution is pretty good so it'd probably be fine.
If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer. I definitely prefer Kobo over any other reader, but then I hate proprietary software so refuse to ever get a Kindle.
Got it. Thanks Nirkatze. Nah i don't highlight much.. i just read through. Unfortunately i didn't transfer my books to laptop in Feb when kindle announced it's going to stop allowing transfer of it's ebooks. Let me research a bit, but then otherwise i guess I'm stuck with it. :|
Grrrrrrr... that does sound annoying. But maybe you can find something that will work, after its been out long enough for folks to tackle the issue.
Can you no longer email ebooks?... Kindle devices and apps have unique email addresses you can find on your Amazon account page, to email epub/mobi files you get from author newsletters to read/etc... or they did... And I'm sure there's some GitHub shenanigans to directly download your ebooks from Amazon servers even if they removed the frontend options...
Timelord Iain wrote: "Can you no longer email ebooks?... It's about if I switch to Kobo now, then how much of a pain it's going to be to download the books and load to kobo (I don't know if it's possible, but you might be right that someone would have figured out a hack - I will have to check the steps).

internet says Kobo OS doesn't support iOS/Android apps, so no to that... but reddit says you can still extract your ebooks from a kindle device or the Kindle for PC app, and deDRM them with Calibre, then transfer to Kobo... it's gonna be a multi-step process to learn, tho...

To extract with Kindle for PC, you need the old 2.4 version...

I haven't tried in a while but Amazon made a change that the old mod I used to remove the DRM no longer worked on books published after a certain date. I tried a few times to get an updated mod and find the right Kindle version for my PC but I gave up eventually. It was very annoying.
Someone please talk me off the ledge! There is a guy on TikTok that is in the process of reading Stormlight Archives for the first time and he is like 2/3 of the way through W&T and I want to re-read it! He is nearly at the part when the Shallan reveal happens/is confirmed and I keep checking to see if he posted about it because he loves Taln as much as I do and I can't wait foe him to realize Taln didn't break!!!! <3
I need to post my mega-cosmere read-a-thon plans in Buddy Read Invites soon... can you hold out for that? Also, as for the DRM stuff... give it a few months and someone'll crack it.
Nirkatze wrote: "I need to post my mega-cosmere read-a-thon plans in Buddy Read Invites soon... can you hold out for that?"There is a chance I started Hero of Ages even though I got the ending spoiled and initially didn't want to read it but finally figured just suck it up and read it, quit being a baby. I listened to the first 2 parts yesterday so a little more than a third of the way through. I'd be interested in a Cosmere read though. Also the guy finally got to the part I was waiting for him to get to! Spoiler for SA:

I think Isles has a bigger impact the more Cosmere you have under your belt... but also I might have a book crush on Dusk.
Nirkatze wrote: "I think Isles has a bigger impact the more Cosmere you have under your belt... but also I might have a book crush on Dusk."That is what I was thinking, I haven't read enough Cosmere to make this mean something.
I liked Hero of Ages more the first time around I think?... In an appreciation way... Plenty of frustrating stuff too... On re-read, I mostly like it for spoiler reasons and Cosmere reasons, once you know more about what was really going on...
Nirkatze wrote: "I think Isles has a bigger impact the more Cosmere you have under your belt... but also I might have a book crush on Dusk."I’ve read every cosmere book, most of them multiple times. Still couldn’t get into this one. 😞
I finished Hero of Ages last night and I enjoyed it despite how it ended, which i knew going in because it got spoiled for me on Reddit a while back. I wish it had ended differently for sure but overall I really liked it.
The ENDING sucked, (view spoiler) It was not a bad ending that was rage inducing but I'd have definitely preferred an alternate one for sure :)
Nirkatze wrote: "Definitely takes balls, to [spoilers removed]"Right???? I went in knowing it would happen and it still sucked! Maybe (view spoiler)
I liked the way it ended. It was totally unexpected. But I also liked the Divergent series ending for that same reason, and I know basically everyone else raged against that one.
Diana Stormblessed wrote: "I liked the way it ended. It was totally unexpected. But I also liked the Divergent series ending for that same reason, and I know basically everyone else raged against that one."I didn't hate it but yeah, I would have been happier if it had ended differently.

If you really want to know--(view spoiler)
@Ann-Marie, if you don't want to open Nirkatze's spoiler, you get an answer to your question in post 6530 in another book.
I read the spoiler and in fact I did really want to know and was happy to hear it! Thanks for the less spoilery answer though Narilka but something like this I am like I need to know! lol
There are 2 main character deaths in the Cosmere that are reversed... and after the second one, Sanderson released a post on his blog on the topic, basically saying "don't expect it to happen a third time" because he knows making death impermanent destroys the impact of meaningful character deaths... you can never trust them to remain...

That's if you want answers, like I know you do... spoils a bit more than you currently know, and then reminds you of alot you already knew for the second one...

I need a motivation to read more Czech Fantasy so I have kinda been thinking if I could BR it with people here. Unfortunately they are not being translated to English with some exceptions. Some are translated to other languages, though. So thinking that I came up with a whole idea of creating bookclub where we could read books not available in English. We would still discuss in English as we could be reading different language versions and maybe some would choose to read in language they are still learning. Would people be interested in this idea? And would it be allowed or would that be found too restrictive towards other members? It is why I am suggesting a book club rather than adding the BRs officially. Personally I could read in Czech (obviously) and Portuguese. And possibly something simple in Japanese (haven't spoken or reviewed it for like 6 years so it's very dead).
Czech version of Dungeon Crawler Carl has it's own cover art and I really love it. I just don't love that they translated absolutely everything to the point of localising Donut's name to Czech pastry lol.
Detail of the art: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Bk...
I hope the book is a success and whole series gets translated so we get new art for all the books. It seems like the illustrator actually read the book or was given detailed instructions. I am pretty sure the fluff Donut sits on is explicitly in the book, like she wanted to make the ride more beautiful. And ofc the sparkly feet...Edit: The illustrator actually mentions he had read the book in the art description. I wish that was a standard practice but probably not always feasible timewise.
The artist posted on reddit, top result if you search the book name...

That's also in the link I have shared 😉Love the bathroom door inclusion. Just sells the unhinged vibes.
Reddit is really going crazy over the art. I can see people not speaking Czech buying it just for the cover. The sales might be really good lol.
