Did they release the useless monstrosity that is the new series page to the masses?

Enormous covers, risky blurb spoilers, only 2-3 books visible at a time now instead of 7-10... we guinea pigs over in the Feedback group have been complaining for weeks with the changes, and they only made minor changes, like moving all the text to the side of the cover, and re-adding star ratings... you have to be a librarian to see sub-series now, and only in the edit screen...

Maybe you should join the Feedback group to voice your outrage... half of us thought it was a bug when we first saw it...

According to their announcement, people like book covers and blurbs to find their next book... even tho we repeatedly told them we don't want to be spoiled for later books in a series while trying to make a shopping list...

I feel like the whole point of the Feedback group is an out of the way location to collect negative opinions about site changes they don't plan to revert, that way they don't get flooded with emails...

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5358 comments So I just checked and I have the new series page, too. I kind of like it because now the books are in order. Before they'd sometimes be randomly placed. And the blurb doesn't bother me as it's only 1 line. It's hard to spoil something in only 1 line. And I'm a huge hater of being spoiled. I guess I'm the weirdo in the bunch.

How to spoil a previous book in 10 words:

The Dirt on Ninth Grave: (view spoiler)

People give some other examples in the 19 pages of comments in the thread I mentioned... the original version of the new page included 3-4x as much text per blurb...

And what do you mean they'd be placed randomly?... As far as I know, the ordering is the same, it's just bigger, and the numbering is more prominant...

The ultimate Malazan page isn't nearly as useful anymore: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1739...

Only way to identify the 3 different series is to check for Bauchelain & Korbal Broach in the blurb and the author of each book for Empire vs Book of the Fallen... never mind the newer trilogies at the end...

I mostly avoid the page now and just run very specific searches so I can see more books at once... and tons of librarians have said they won't be editing series much anymore because it's harder to double-check for errors now with the information so spread out...

And then sometimes I feel like all I do is complain anymore...

I'm not clicking on your link cuz that's still I series I need to finish. :-) And randomly I mean because some of the series I would look up would be like, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 2, 8, 7. I mean it was a combination of book in series and rating or something, because it def wasn't 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. From the ones I clicked on now, at least they were all in order.

Anyway, because I hate spoilers I stopped reading book blurbs altogether so it's easy for me to ignore the 1 line blurb entirely.

message 2769: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35351 comments Mod
I've never had that happen before... the series pages I've used have always been in order... the misordering happens in the search page and the "add book/author" button, since they're sorted by number of ratings, and sometimes more people have read/rated later books because of freebies and ARCs, I think...

Finally had my endoscopy today... EGD... camera down throat into stomach and some biopsy samples...

I arrive for my pushed up time of 1:15pm, and can't get in contact with my ride... I'm the super-hermit with few local friends and no local family... finally have to just start working down my list of coworker phone numbers and nobody is answering... finally call my last resort... an older coworker with tons of medical problems of his own, on an oxygen tank... he talks to nurse and they get me started on IV and in to do the procedure... I'm home already at the time I was told the procedure was scheduled to start, 2:50pm...

I know this is what everybody says, but "I feel fine"... just a little lethargic... if anything, I've always been a bit resistant to anesthesia... especially local anesthesia when I had a toenail removed and partially killed when I was younger, or my wisdom teeth removed (I felt that and it hurt so much I was jittery after)

This was so pleasant I almost wish doctors were cheaper so I could go back :D

Cool operating room, warm blanket, tuck-down service... I lost time between falling asleep and waking up, so my first question was "Am I supposed to be awake?" before I realized they'd removed the bite-guard so I could talk in the first place...

Wellp, storytime is over, kids :D

Diet and Nexium has me so much better than when I complained about the 6 week appointment date back in April, that they basically said everything looked reasonably good and just keep doing what I'm doing... don't break my diet with stomach-damaging habits...

OH... my initial ride that never returned my calls... he did while I was having my procedure... he was coughing up blood of his own... having his own health problems... probably from his diet of 6-10 Monsters and other energy drinks a day at work alone...

You're used to "Loopy Zaara"... well here's "Loopy Iain" :D

message 2771: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments Perfect timing for a bedtime story, Loopy Iain :D
It's good to hear that everything went well and you're feeling better!

message 2772: by Lena (new)

Lena So three weeks for the biopsy results? That sounds like a lot of sick people. Those energy drinks are a horror.

message 2773: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35351 comments Mod
5-7 days for the biopsy results, I think.. it took 6 weeks to get in to even see the stomach specialist for 15 minutes... but only 2 weeks to get this procedure scheduled...

I've never been one for energy drinks... I used to drink too much soda, altho I've probably cut them for good this time, but I've never felt like energy drinks helped me much, the few times I've tried them... and it never sounded good as many as some of my coworkers drink...

The annoying thing is that all my problems are "better" than they were 2 months ago, or last year, but they seem to linger and never 100% go away... I just keep accumulating minor annoying problems...

Timelord Iain | 35351 comments Mod
I pretty much already have one... looking up Crohns, after Margret's comment, I pretty much already live on a plain foods diet that is allowed during a Crohn's flareup...

Yoghurt, steamed broccoli, rice (soaked in broth), boiled chicken (boiled in broth), mashed potatoes, bananas... that's pretty much all I eat unless I'm breaking my diet, which is usually a bad idea...

Yeah, you're at almost the minimum as it is. I gave up dairy and it helped me a lot but that would wipe out a quarter of your edible food list. That stinks. Hopefully it continues to improve over time and you can reintroduce foods back in again.

My problem, is things start looking up and I cheat a bit, and BAM... problems creep back in... I had my blood sugar checked last week while in for something else and things looked normal there, so no diabetes... I told a co-worker that that used to give me a hard time about my soda consumption (been off soda for a few months now... quit a few times, but I don't even cheat with free soda at work anymore, since that started being too fizzy/acidic last year... the mix is off and they don't seem to care, even tho it's sold to customers)...

I just realized there's a button in www.goodreads.com/notifications to manage all notifications at once... it opens a page to edit every discussion/group and how you receive updates about them (or if you receive updates at all)... that'll be so much quicker, in the future, than opening every thread I want to opt out of :D
