But you might have thought leeds because of sanderson but I'm from Bradford (home of zayn malik from 1D) which is right next to leeds

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments So a couple of weeks ago I bought a Panasonic camera because I was having a huge think about my future since I'm doing film studies and one of my lecturers was talking about how difficult the industry is and all that good stuff but I think it made something click in me and I decided to take it upon myself to try and learn new stuff and this past year I've learned how to use editing software, film cameras as well as now learning to write a script and I've got an outline for one which I hopefully want to bring to life and I've already started doing something with my life by creating a separate Instagram account for improving my photography skills and I hope to make my own films and I plan to make youtube videos as well e.g. booktube, films, random stuff which I hope to make in a couple of days once I've worked the courage up haha

Picture

Sorry for the word vomit guys goodreads is pretty much the only website where I'm happy to be sociable and I'm glad I decided to join this group...that just sounds soppy but end of emotional rant hahahaha

I was really hesitant to do this afraid to look desperate but here's a link to my Instagram page I've put some photography pictures on but you don't have to follow just have a look at what I'm trying to do you can if you want but like I said I'm not desperate (yet I say to have a look I may change this post later)

That’s awesome Ahdam! I especially loved the ones in the park. As I love photography I’ve started following your account :)

And the one with the bird and the vehicle going by too!

message 761: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Yeah I was really pushed forward by my uni mate who has a similar thing haha cheers Margaret my plan is to just go anywhere and everywhere with my camera now I cant wait for my dad to take us to the Yorkshire dales because I'm only 19 hahaha

Also that bird car one was unexpected because it was a windy day I had no tripod and I was still working out how to have pictures without motion blur so that took me by surprise

message 762: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments I don't do Insta, FB, or ANY social media other than this, @Adam cuz those places are effing terrifying to me...so daπn intrusive and frankly 😒 scary...but I solemnly swear to log in from random friends' accounts and drop a "like bomb" on your page.

Deffo do bookstagram +Yorkshire dales. All that pretty purple stuff amid the green...is it heather? Also those stone cottages...not too enthused abt the sheep droppings tho 😋 so watch your feet!

But I guess the best laid plans...

Aw bless ya! Hard planning anything when you've got kids to look after!

message 772: by Chris (new)

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments I sometimes have a hard time reading because I'm a stay at home Dad, two kids (7 & 1), and I'm the only one with a drivers license. So, that just means that a lot of my daytime is spent running the family. Mornings are usually good for me so I'll read from 6am until 11ish. And then again after 10 pm at night.

That's cool that you manage to fit it around your schedule :) I work through the day so most of my reading is on an evening or weekend. If I have any sort of plans after work that puts me to a little bit before bed so I can struggle then.

message 774: by Liam (new)

Liam (leeman729) | 828 comments Usually if I initiate a read I'll do my best to keep up with maximum involvement =]. I dropped off a little bit halfway through due to some real-life circumstances haha, but that's not generally the norm for me. I hate it when people just abandon the discussion haha

message 775: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I'm guilty of that a couple of times sometimes I admit I drop out other time later I just keep silent out of shame and not wanting to admit I dropped out

It honestly depends as it might be I lost interest in the book halfway or I was ill that put me off reading and other times it could be life with uni and all that

message 776: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments Yeah I guess sometimes life gets in the way! So far I've managed to get to everything I've planned, but I'm sure it'll happen to me soon! Haha.

message 777: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments This is a "done thing" that everybody does? 😂 And its not.so much frowned upon as laighed at? I'm just realising I don't I really know how things are done in this group and I'm on;y just meeting some of the ppl. I've been feeling like I'd bitten off more than was...was just talking abt it yest, was it? with @Sio...man, its like I just received some sort of wierd reprieve. To whoever brought this up, thanks much...all the noobs owe ya.

message 778: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments Yeah...whenever I'm on the app is when everyone can see how truly bizarre my spelling actually is + autocorrect.

message 779: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments @Ab...hi...just a tip. That typically goes on the Buddy Read invite thread. People respond there (visibility is greater) and once a group is formed and you have a read date, you beam the Bat Signal for the officialdom on the "Mods pls add..." page. It's a good system xcuz there's so much going on.
And I wouldn't have known either if ppl here hadn't shown me the way. I hope you find a good group to read with. I really think many of the silent spectators on here would actually want to read a more friendly+less scary series.

message 780: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments T shirt goes on the other way mate. More friendly, less scary...I think I said. Unless the app demon got me agn?

@Zaara: This group lets you be as active as you want... no challenge deadlines... no forced BR participation... only person holding you accountable is yourself... anything said otherwise is generally in jest...

Otherwise we'd be kicking Melissa (I think?) for buying 100 books in the middle of the Overflowing Bookshelf Challenge :D

message 782: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments @Iain, I know. Is why I'm kicking meself, lad...or not really cuz I cant ballet + frankly I'm not even sorry :-D whats the point of candy if you don't give in? I haven't met Melissa yet. She seems my kinda gal.

Oh you are a law unto yourself. Like one of those things that whizz overhead between Kyoto and Osaka.
I daren't even...
But yes, Fingers O' Malley, I did notice your reading update in another group...it popped up on my update feed, shiny covers ablaze...like uhhhh candy (xcuz im one dimensional in my cravings like that) and I couldn't help clicking...
Also I cant believe you explained abt in great detail abt the book accountability and the ribbing...hehehehe who woke up on the Sombre and Earnest Side of Things today? Ima get you bk for this by being unexpectedly and creepily serious when its absolutely dank bad form.

message 788: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments And also @Ab if you gonna start Brisingr now, you're so not gonna show on the 27th for Abercrombie, are you? Think abt it. Theres a big group running with it...there'll be all these different styles of reading commentary + ppl reading at different paces + Glokta.
Which is what i loved abt the Malice read. Is it wrong to like the thread more than the book ;-)
Ok I'm totally shipping Abercrombie on the 27th to EVERYONE now.

I think the phantom was a dummy account used to promote Lawrence's books. I didn't research it until the thread was already set up and people were already signed up. We'll watch more closely for that in the future.

I can be cast in the buddy read failure category this month. My new plan to only read 2 buddy reads a month seems to be a wise decision going forward.

message 795: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Thanks Angela it was amazing to meet him and he was such a nice guy and I especially can't wait to meet Brandon Sanderson in December and just lose my shit when talking to him 😂😂😂

Also hope you can bounce back Angela there were some decent books and I've wrapped myself in a corner next year as I've pretty much book the first couple of months next year so I'll be out of commission

And the worst part is that there are books I want to get to I.e stone of farewell and way of kings but don't have space to read them (I'm actually planning on reading way of kings in December since I'm planning in starting game of thrones earlier in the release date

Oh yes, @Siobhan, There's loads more fun people on that read + Mark Lawrence+ lots of time before Feb or March or whenever that is so plenty of time for the Phantom to make a reappearance. Could be he just has social anxiety and I was gonna be his "interaction" experiment. I cant believe I'm this protective of the creepy Phantom. Do you think I may have scared him off? I can be truly terrifying sometimes. Ask the Vuk kid.

FYI, @Vuk was this perfectly nice lady who had the misfortune to hop on board a BR with me. Her name induced a NaNoWrimo brainstorm and unleashed all these story ideas which I thought were so wicked + pioneering and now realise were pathetic. Unfortunately, i thought it would be a good idea to share them with her. En masse. Without warning. I'm guessing she still has nightmares.

For the record @Vuk, I'm sorry. I apologise. Please come back. I'm not actually insane :-) i just have my leg in a cast and I'm not able to move arnd much + it hurts = so i talk a lot. Xcuz I'm bored. But to be fair, I talk a lot even when not a cripple.

Niki Hawkes wrote: "I think the phantom was a dummy account used to promote Lawrence's books. I didn't research it until the thread was already set up and people were already signed up. We'll watch more closely for th..."

Ok this woman just went and MADE MY DAY! I have the *dreamy cloud* feeling. You mean to say Mark Lawrence hisself whom I hero worship (or his official representatives which I'm counting as hisself xcuz its much cooler that way) set up a buddy read on here, with a lowly nobody with motormouth, in order to ship his already-bestselling trilogy? The stern and logical part of me says "What are the chances, you soddin' prat?"
But the Dreamer cannot let go, now that you have given her the dreamwine. Please don't take it away.
Hehehhehehehehehe.
Thank you, Jack DawsonNiki Hawkes. You saved my life. In all the ways that a human being CAN BE saved. *Titanic yerking* and simultaneous *swoons*

Btw, I like how you think Nikster. You smart! You get my vote for fictional fantasy queen who will make Oleanna Tyrell and Cersei Lannister look like dodos of the particularly slow variety.

On a serious note, with mods like these...thanks Nik. Thanks for watching out for us and working so hard to make our reading experiences pleasureable and safe. Don't think we all don't notice how beautifully regulated this place is, and that you five are doing it gratis. On your personal time. For all of us.

And now, back to the part where Mark Lawrence wants to talk books with me...

Also, this group sorely needs a thread (or maybe just a rap on the random chatter thread) called "Authors I'd go drinking with" and everyone gets to pick five. And then we see who is truly The Queen/King.

EDIT: We do have such a discussion. In here is where I saw the idea in the first place. Ok I feel stupid now. For anyone who is new and hasn't seen:
