Great eye - it took me a while to find a scene where an undertaker speaks but there is one :)

With all 12 labors complete we can have five bonus labors open at any one time. So when we finish one we get a new one :)

Thanks, it sounds cool but also really confusing. And you do it on your own right? Does anyone moderate your posts or help you decide if a book fits the requirements? I really like the interaction of team mates or someone to spur me on. I tried doing a lot of the personal challenges here but they don't keep my interest as much.

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Kelly, an NBRC mod, moderates the RPG. There's often discussion in the Tavern thread; questions about if a book fits a goal enough are there a lot. But mostly you do it on your own.

Thanks Ray. Maybe I will check it out in the New Year if nothing else comes up. I did do one Around the World Challenge which was fun but not as fast paced. I could always do another round of that in the meantime. Appreciate the help!

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments I wish! Haha. Or at least that we could get a few more bonuses open at the same time.

I guess since bonus labors need to be completely finished before counting for any points, it sort of saves us from ourselves..? This way, we can't spread out too much.

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments I wrote a long response to this but my browser crashed. Short version: I wish we had an idea of what we'll need for Emerge, but overall I agree with you about using the TA books.

Updated my TA unused book spreadsheet and opened it to "anyone with the link can comment". I plan to go through as many as I can when the next bonus posted, but I've read very few of them....

ETA: We should check the Banked books first though because they might be limited for the next task and TA books won't be.

BONUS LABOR 12

Early one morning you go to King Eurystheus’ gardens to sit in the sun but before you can enjoy the weather you are interrupted by loud sobs coming from behind the bushes. You sneak around and find a young gnome who appears to be in distress. He has misplaced his tools and will lose his job at the royal gardens if he doesn’t find them soon. Help the gnome find his tools.

◈ Read a book with garden tools on the cover (shovel, rake, shears, etc)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments YAY!! They are a crook and flail and the flail is for gardening!!

"The flail appears alone on some of the earliest representations.... It possibly derived from a shepherd's whip or a fly whisk. However, some scholars prefer to regard it as a ladanisterion, a flail-like instrument used until the present day by shepherds in the Mediterranean region and elsewhere for collecting ladanum, a gummy substance excreted from the leaves of the Cistus plant. Rose | 633 comments Ladder yes, no to flange and crook (pharaoh's items-both are herding/farming not gardening). Maybe (need Kazen or margrets thoughts ) on the mesh and trellis.

message 4686: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments Huh. I withdraw my objection, unless we think that is more farming than gardening activity

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments There are two with ladders! I will go find the other one again. :D :D

ETA: There's a ladder on the right.
When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore

So with 2 ladders and the ladanisterion / flail, we might be done with this one....????

message 4688: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments I mean. I think a ladder is a tool gardeners in royal palaces would need. Lots of tall hedges to trim. lol. Lets see what everyone things with the flail

message 4689: by Kazen (new)

Kazen The ladders totally work - in Japan they're even used to prop up branches that are growing (very prettily) in an outward direction.

The flail is borderline but that is totally a trellis on the other book, so that makes three. To the spreadsheet! :)

BONUS LABOR 13

The next task Eurystheus has for you is to capture Cerberus, the giant three-headed hound guarding the Underworld. This should be a piece of cake! After all, dogs usually like you.

◈ Travel to the Underworld: Read a book involving death
◈ Bargain with Hades: Read a book in which a character takes a diplomatic approach
◈ Subdue Cerberus: Read a book with a dog on the cover

Points: 30

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Cut & Run (Cut & Run, #1) by Madeleine Urban
For 13a? First line of synopsis: "A series of murders in New York City..."

For 13b? "They both know immediately that their partnership will pose more of an obstacle than the lack of evidence left by the murderer." from synopsis. Sounds like they'll have to be diplomatic to work together.
