Kazen

Annnnnd that's it - Bingo is over!

We did an awesome job, and even pulled together a last coverall and some squares after that. We rock! :D

The rules are not yet up for Labors but fear not, they will be soon-ish. (No idea exactly when, so soon-ish covers it best, hehe.) This one is Olympic-esque, I hear, so I don't think there will be a mad rush like there was for some of the Bingo tasks. More info once it's available, of course.

In the meantime, any and all books you finish after Bingo counts for Labors, huzzah! No black hole this time around. ;) You can post your completed books now if you want, or wait until we see what Labors looks like so you can slot it in somewhere. It's all good!

In the meantime read exactly what you like and keep your eye on this space! Well done, Pandas! :D

Awww, bad timing stinks. :( Nothing is stopping you from reading and banking books now, though! ;) A rest is fine too, of course. :)

...normally I don't do three smilies in one message but I'm tired so I'm going with it. :P

Kazen Time for bed - I'll be here with a big cup of tea in the morning to answer any possible rule-related questions so hang tight. No freakouts allowed! (Except for "holy cow this is so amazing I love it" freakouts, those are okay. ;)

Night!

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments In Labor 2 there's "◈ Inquire at Rivendell - Read a book that's over 800 pages". The Travel Agent's 896 pg Outlander is still available. :D

ETA: for "◈ Visit Pemberley - Read a book where the series and title combined contain all letters in Pemberley." Does there need to be 3 Es? Or just 1?

message 3875: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments Clarifying question, I apologize if it is a silly question. Do her labors have to be done with the genre in mind. For example, the mystery labors need to fit a mystery book?

Kazen Ray (user2637) wrote: "In Labor 2 there's "◈ Inquire at Rivendell - Read a book that's over 800 pages". The Travel Agent's 896 pg Outlander is still available. :D"

Thank you so much for noticing this! That's such a huge help :)

Re: Pemberly, I got a response from a mod (they're on a roll!):

Think of it like "If you had the title of the book and series of the book spelled out in scrabble letters you could use them to spell Pemberley"

Hope that helps :)

This is one of the tasks that stymied me the most - I went through a ton of books and could only find one that had all the letters. Often there would be a P but no D, a D but no M, or a P and a D but no Y. Grah. The easiest option may be to read a book that has "Pemberley" in the title or series name! ;)

Not a silly question - a very common one, as it's already been asked and answered in the staff room! :)

The tasks are to be done as written, with no regard to which labor they are from. Any genre is fine (unless that's the task, of course) ;)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments I'm wondering when/how we get the bonus tasks.

Probably some of us will claim spots? And maybe others will read and hope that "fill-in-the-blank" happens in the book? Like can we be sure there's a topiary in a book?? I mean, without reading it. Is there a book version of Edward Scissorhands? ;)

I think for a lot of these, it would be helful for each of us to make recommendations for others of booka we have read.

message 3882: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments Ok...we each must completed 2 books to work on bonus
Is it best that we 'claim' those like we did in Bingo?...or should we just 'read on'. We get bonus for completing every book in a Labor...so perhaps we should choose 6 to focus on and then add from there...thinking out loud here...

message 3883: by Kazen (new)

Kazen I'm working on a post now explaining claiming and the rest - it'll be up in a few minutes, hang in there. :)

I haven't worked the math on how pointsy bonus will be vs. finishing the main labors, so if someone is in the mood to run numbers go ahead! :) The only things I know about bonus are what's listed in the rules, no additional insight, I'm afraid.

message 3884: by Kazen (last edited Sep 10, 2016 06:26PM) (new)

Kazen

The Labors of Bookulues rules are up, huzzah! We can start planning and reading (and even finishing books) now, but the official start is something like nine hours from now.

At first glance the GOAL post looks a little crazy - so many tasks! Where to start? Here are some ideas:

Title Tasks

Labor 1A: Book title that starts with S
Labor 4B: Read a book with someone's name in the title
Labor 7E: Book title that starts with T
Labor 11B: Book with a color in the title

Difficult-looking Tasks (let's knock 'em out early!)

Labor 1E & 11D (intentional double, need to do it twice): Read a book where the main character is a musician
Labor 4D: Read a book that is 10+ in a series
Labor 5B: Read a book where something catches on fire
Labor 6D: Read a book with a topiary in it (?!?!)
Labor 9A: Read a book where someone works at a non-profit
Labor 9C: Read a book that's 500-600 pages
Labor 12B: Read a book with over 100 chapters
Labor 12C: Read a book where someone showers

That being said, have a look through all the tasks in the GOAL post to see what's there. There are so many fun options to fill!

You will need to finish two main labor tasks before you are eligible to work on bonus tasks. It's a person by person thing. So go ahead and claim your first task, and maybe even your second if you're sure you know what you want to read. Remember that we all committed to reading at least one book a week for the duration of Wobble, and reading two books for the labors is part of that.

Dive in and read on, Red Pandas! :D

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments Okay the current book I am reading The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier
as far as I can see will only work for Labor 3E - Read a book with a title (Mr., Ms, Lord, etc.) in the title.

If indeed Lady counts as a title which in the context of this book it does.

So please let me know and I will claim that task first. If it will not work then I will put it down for now and read something that fits. I know we can bank it but with so many tasks I want to read something that helps Now. Also I want to get 2 done so I can read for bonus tasks later in the challenge.

Thanks!
This looks like a fun challenge.

Kazen Caly - That certainly works Now! I'll put you down for 3E, yea!

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments For my second claimed spot (or first if The Lady and the Unicorn wont work) I would like to read H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald for task 1C - read a book with a Bird on the cover.
If that is okay?

Off to bed, will check back in the morning before I read any further.

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments I'm in a bunch of books at the moment--
That Summer by Sarah Dessen- Character is in school (8E)
Cinder by Marissa Meyer- I'm pretty sure this one is going to have a party in it (2A), as they keep talking about a ball. That counts, right?
Pocket Apocolypse by Seanan McGuire- Handsome man on cover (3A). If I know Seanan's writing, SOMEONE will probably be severely injured (12D).
Highly Illogical Behavior by John Corey Whaley- Someone is mentally unbalanced (6C), someone has a nervous breakdown (7B)
Squire by Tamora Pierce- Starts with S (1A), from a quartet (2B), headstrong character (3B), something catches fire (5B), strong female lead (11E).

message 3894: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Holy cow, Bethany, the lovely options! Did you want to claim one or just slot things in as you finish?
