The book you linked is an edition of: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... and that is the one that had to be chosen in the dropdown.

Hippie Shawn | 8 comments A quote having zero likes does not justify its deletion. That actually makes no sense at all. This is a poor reason to have a quote deleted.

Abcdarian | 26579 comments Shawn wrote: "A quote having zero likes does not justify its deletion. That actually makes no sense at all. This is a poor reason to have a quote deleted."

That is not the reason for deleting it, it is the reason we librarians are allowed to delete it when requested.

message 458: by Hippie Shawn (new)

Hippie Shawn | 8 comments It still doesn't make sense though. I have added some quotes to my list that I happen to really enjoy, but they weren't in existence within the system when I tried finding them, so I needed to create them on my own. These quotes are from the book, but I guess no one bothered creating them or some people deemed them as not being that important. It doesn't mean that it should all of a sudden be allowed to be deleted just because it didn't happen to have at least one like.

message 459: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
Librarians don't go around deleting quotes with zero likes for no reason. When the author and/or the person who added them asks for the deletion, we do it -- but if and only if no one else has liked them.

message 460: by Hippie Shawn (new)

Hippie Shawn | 8 comments How do you know that the person who asks for a quote to be deleted was actually the person to add it?

Arenda | 26448 comments #474 This request has nothing to do with quotes. Please use the folder "Book Issues" when you need help correcting a book description.

That said, the description only contained praise/reviews about the book, which is not allowed, so deleted.
Also corrected the truncated isbn13.

However, in both quotes, there is an extra dangling word at the end of each quote. ("He" and "The"). It just looks like a bit of sloppy copy-pasting. Is it possible to clean this?

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” (https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/3026-..."

#495 - Powers is the credited 'writer' (likely the compiler or editor of Pooh's Little Instruction Book); that quote is, underneath, Tagged as 'misattributed' and properly credits A A Milne.

message 487: by Hugo (new)

Hugo (hugo_nebula) | 740 comments Tom wrote: "It's not really good enough, though, is it? It still appears on the site as a Jean Powers' quote. It should be removed (as a Jean Powers' quote) rather than just tagged 'misattributed'. It's misleading, and morally wrong to continue to have it shown as a quote by Jean Powers"

Sorry, Tom, but the quote is Tagged as misattributed and is linked, on the right-hand column, to the book by Milne. Further, Librarians aren't able to delete Quotes which have Likes, and this one has 22225.

message 488: by Hugo (new)

Hugo (hugo_nebula) | 740 comments Tom wrote: "Perhaps you'd like to think about it as if you were the author. Would you like your original work attributed to someone else?"

What I or any other Librarian may think about the issue is neither here nor there - we are constrained by rules and guidelines clearly set out for us, and are literally unable to delete Quotes which have Likes. I'm glad you were able to find some resolution to what was obviously a contentious issue for you.

message 489: by Hugo (new)

Hugo (hugo_nebula) | 740 comments I'm sorry you feel patronised, Tom. I was merely hoping that this thread had ended satisfactorily for you.

Yes, "Goodreads Librarians generally take care of correcting quotes." However, again, standard Librarians cannot delete Quotes which have Likes, which is why we were unable to assist in this instance. Generally, we would try to.

Thank you for posting.

Nothing needed to be deleted, just edited.

However, a quote with that many likes probably would have required a superlibrarian to edit.

Now that this quote has been "officially" edited by an Employee does that mean it is now "officially" attributed to A.A. Milne? At least so far as Goodreads is concerned?

Personally, I quite like the offending quotation, BUT it is NOT by A.A. Milne.

I set the author to Joan Powers because the more accurate attributions Anonymous and Unknown are both frowned upon and rightly so since they appear to be used as a dumping ground for those who cannot or will not check their sources. I also added the "misattributed-a-a-milne" tag.

The nearest that Milne got to writing that quotation:
"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you."

was this passage from the very last page of The House at Pooh Corner:

“Pooh, promise you won’t forget about me, ever. Not even when I’m a hundred.”
Pooh thought for a little.
“How old shall I be then?”
“Ninety-nine.”
Pooh nodded.
“I promise,” he said.

Pradipa P. Rasidi (xaliber) | 8 comments Hello!

Sorry, I want to request another edit to quote I added. It's this one: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/9100...

Instead of the mess it is, it should've been:

[Martin] Luther, we grant, overcame bondage out of devotion by replacing it by bondage out of conviction. He shattered faith in authority because he restored the authority of faith. He turned priests into laymen because he turned laymen into priests. He freed man from outer religiosity because he made religiosity the inner man. He freed the body from chains because he enchained the heart.

Thanks before. :)
