I'm in! Will there be official time slots or threads to avoid spoilers? 100 pages a week adds up to appr. 2 months of reading with my edition. Does that fit roughly? German tends to be quite long
Sam I was throwing 100 pages out as a ball park figure. I personally am a fast reader. As we start we can go as fast or slow or anywhere in between as we need to. Wow so excited to see all this interest looking forward to it!
Reminder that we are reading next month. Join in if you'd like and have the time free. I've never lead a discussion here so I'm open to suggestions about pacing.
I may comment once in a while. I read this as a child, took me about three days to finish. It still is my favourite novel and I have been looking for a character like Scarlett ever since.

Here are links to the discussion threads for Gone with the Wind. That should take care of spoilers for your read, as the book was originally divided up into a few sections. This book was originally read in June 2012.
Gone with the Wind NO Spoilers

Kathy- Thank you so much. Tytti by commenting once in a while can you help facilitate? This is new territory for me so any other heads to bounce ideas off of would be much appreciated.
Well it really has been decades when I read it and I have never lead a discussion anywhere, so I'm not sure I could help much...
I'm in. I just love this, you guys have a thread for spoilers so I can actually join that. I hate typing in that spoiler bracket :-). But it's also awesome you have the options for that too. Yay!
Yes I'm excited too. Don't know what I'm more excited for, summer break from school or this buddy read.
This is the book with the green ogar and the donkey, where they have to go and save the princess. Because my friend said this isn't it but I trust YOU GUYS. My REAL friends! *Kisses*
If like to join, I've been wanting to read this book for a while. How is a buddy read different than the other books you guys read together? I'm new so I'm still figuring it all out
I have this one burning a large hole in my shelf. I think I'm going to join in on this one, even though I have a lot of other things going on. Just because I really really want to tackle it.
Luella and Grace glad you are joining us. A buddy read is for a book that isn't for a monthly read discussion. We still read as a group and have discussions on it even if it wasn't voted on by the group. Looking forward.
The library has the book for me just in time. How many pages should we aim for a week? I'm sure we all have other books we are reading.
I'm only in a few pages. It said I have read 1% when I updated while ago. Lol, I guess so since it's so big. I have never read it or watched the movie. I know I'm not far in but I like it so far. :-)
My edition is "only" 959 pages. I want to finish a mystery first tonight and then start tomorrow when it's the only thing I'm reading. Hope to get at least 50 pages done tomorrow.
FYI- I was finally inspired to read this because earlier this year I checked out a charming book for my kids, Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. In this book, the ten year protagonist helps an older woman with failing eyesight to read by reading her one chapter of GWTW everyday. I thought I'm going to do the same thing this summer.
I'm definitely going to start this this week. I hope to start it tonight but we'll see how that goes. I'm looking forward to it, since I've never read it before
Sam wrote: "HI! CAN I JOIN YOU!?!?! I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!"welcome sam! The more the merrier! I plan to start tonight, and am hoping to get through a chapter a day, or roughly 100 pages a week. We'll see how it goes. Thanks Brina for putting this group read together!
My pleasure. Starting tomorrow and hoping read 50 pages or so. My goal is to finish before I go on vacation so I don't have to schlep it with me.
I'm hoping to start it today or tomorrow and I'll aim for around 100 pages a week as well. I've never read it or seen the movie so I'm looking forward to this!
My edition has a forward by Pat Conroy that sets the stage for the novel. I'm halfway thru chapter 1 but these are long pages so I have 13 long pages to go.

I know I'm not far in but I like it so far. :-)"When I read it, I read a Kindle edition that had around 1,000 pages and I'd read and read and read, and it seemed like I didn't get anywhere! Neither the % nor the page number ever seemed to change by much.
I was in the library one afternoon and decided to see what it looked like in print and was really surprised at how much more progress it looked like I'd made when I looked at the pages in the print version.
So, rest assured, you're probably reading more than you think! Each % is around 10 pages, and the first % is really 2%, since you have to get from 0% to 2% before it'll update.
I started it about s week ago and am so happy there happens to be a buddy read for it! I'm on chapter 12 now, so not too far ahead just yet!
Wow Ciera. I'm only on chapter 2. I'm excited to catch up because at first glance there seems to be many parts to the story.
Brina wrote: "Wow Ciera. I'm only on chapter 2. I'm excited to catch up because at first glance there seems to be many parts to the story."There really is. It would be weird to be able to read the book without knowing anything beforehand. I had already seen the movie when I read it.
Finished chapter 3. Told my kids if read even 50 pages a day I will be done within the three weeks I can check out a library book for. I am captivated so far. No one writes sweeping novels like this anymore and if they do it is in five short books, not one long one.
I think all of you will love this book. I read it last year, and it's now one of my favorites. Of course I had seen the movie, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the novel.
Just found out this tidbit of information. Even though GWTW is a work of fiction, natives of Roswell, Georgia maintain that Scarlett resembles Mittie Roosevelt nee Bulloch, mother of Theodore Roosevelt. And Tara is supposed to be her childhood home, Bulloch Hall. Keeping that in mind, I will look for other Roosevelt family members as I read on.
Brina wrote: "Just found out this tidbit of information. Even though GWTW is a work of fiction, natives of Roswell, Georgia maintain that Scarlett resembles Mittie Roosevelt nee Bulloch, mother of Theodore Roose..."That's really interesting!!
I'm going to try and aim for 100 pages a week but I have two small kids (one a baby) and I work FT so there are some nights I may just be too tired haha.
however, I just started today and I'm on page 59 so that's a good start!!
Alissa, I've been there so I get it. For about 8 years I didn't read much at all. Think of this book as one long novel and it's not so daunting. Anyway, next week I am going to baseball games three days in a row so it could eat into my reading time and things will even out.
I am so busy with other books but it looks like I'll be able to start by Monday, I'm pretty excited!
I'm only 100 pages in because I have hit a reading slump :-(. Whyyyyyy! I wanted to get a good bit of this one done and talk about it with y'all and the other three on my currently reading list finished by July 1st so I can go on to my July books. Hopefully I can start back full force tomorrow. I read a few pages of one a little bit ago!

And I'm not getting all of my notifications or emails from gr so I'm sorry it took so long to answer :-(
I go offline for my sabbath starting in a few hours. With no gadgets I will have plenty of time to read. Hope to get to at least page 300 by the end of the weekend. Just my personal goal- I don't want to carry a 959 page book when I go on vacation in a few weeks. Hope the rest of you are enjoying.
I'm 1/3 through. How far along is everyone else? First impressions? Don't want to spoil for those who might not be as far along.
I'm on page 253 and I'm still loving it! I think Scarlett is a selfish brat but I like her :-). I agree with a lot of the things Rhett and Ashley believe in. I also think the characters and descriptions are wonderful. But I need to go to bed so hopefully I can get more read tomorrow. I didn't get too far today because I kept falling asleep, don't know what's wrong with me.
Night night all, I hope everyone else is enjoying the book too :-)
Brina wrote: "I'm 1/3 through. How far along is everyone else?"So they are still in (view spoiler)? I have my English copy with me, I actually bought it from Italy while on holiday there when I was 14.
