It has a very low rating on this site. Odd considering it was good enough to be adapted for TV. I read one of Christos Tsiolkas' earlier books and thought it was pretty good, so I intend to get around to reading this one.

The beginning has a great deal of a word I really really hate. I read the thread on this group and it appears I'm not the only person irritated by it. My hesitation also goes beyond a the profanity. I think it is so different, how men handle some subject matter. I do wonder though if what is possibly irritating about it, is that it likely contains some truth. I think though, I will only goes past the third pov and if I still can't be bothered, I'll likely pick up something else.
Just started "Half Broke Horses" by Jeanette Walls because I loved The Glass Castle. I also just finished We Were Liars by Emily Lockheart which was really good!

I just finished a book Never Alone which had three narrative strands: a first person one, a second person one (which is quite unusual, a lot of you say & you do in it) and a third person one, pretty standard. And now I've started This Must Be the Place (and loving it) but the first three narrators also a 1st p, a 2nd p and a 3rd p.
Now I'd say that 2nd person narratives are unusual, so to have one in consecutive books.... cue Twilight Zone music again.

Did not find that first male POV to be a mind I wanted to be in - I did the get very far in and I virtually flung the book against the wall.
I am REALLY enjoying This Must Be the Place. Maggie O'Farrell has never disappointed me yet. This will be a keeper, when I eventually get my own copy.
I'm reading The Sudden Appearance of Hope for my book club. It's not really my kind of book but it's okay. One of those books where you're not really sure what the actual story is. Also plugging away at Moby-Dick; or, The Whale which is slow and tedious at times.
I just finished Cross Stitch
. It was one of the best things I have ever read. You can see my review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Many readers loved it, you probably will, too."I see that a library I am going to tomorrow has a copy available - maybe I'll borrow it out... Perhaps you aren't enjoying it as much as you might do if you didn't have other things on your mind!!

Brenda wrote: "I've just started reading Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult and so far it's really good :)"One of my 5 star reads for this year. Challenge try to read it without crying.
Kathryn, no, it just doesn't feel like a mature writer to me; (it's not t he author's debut novel). But I hope you enjoy it when you read it.
I've just red a really good Aussie writer - Sofie Laguna - The Eye of the Sheep. Written from a young boy's POV - Jimmy Flick. Not like other kids, oddball and wonderful. A very distressing incident at its heart. Sandy

The Eye of the Sheep by Sofie Laguna was exceptional wasn't it!

I'm reading 'The Bricks that Built the Houses' by Kate Tempest (London, total overachiever, looks about twelve). It is FANTASTIC!! I've also read The Eye of the Sheep and The Slap, and I really enjoyed both. I can understand ambivalent attitudes towards The Slap - the people in it are totally unlikeable (from memory I think my GR review said pretty much that!) but the writing is good enough to keep one going.

Brenda wrote: "Enjoy Angela :) It's always a bit sad when you're through the final book of a series isn't it!"It's killing me, Brenda! I have just enjoyed this series so much. I may go into mourning when I'm finished....will probably need vast amounts of chocolate....
LOL! Chocolate will definitely help :) But if it's that good you can always do a re-read down the track! Start all over again :)
Brenda wrote: "LOL! Chocolate will definitely help :) But if it's that good you can always do a re-read down the track! Start all over again :)"This is very true - to both! Chocs will help, re-read will help. But I'm still feeling a little maudlin and I'm not even halfway through the book yet!
It's one of those things where you read and enjoy such a great series, then when it's finished it leaves you feeling a bit lost! Or maybe that's just me...
No I understand completely! I hope you can find another series equally as good - maybe a really long one :)
Brenda wrote: "No I understand completely! Also, there are so many wonderful stories out there! Yep, feeling better...no...wait...LOL

Awesome! I do love this series, too, so I'm really looking forward to it.
I just finished You Had Me at Christmas
. It's an anthology of lovely little romance stories. Here's my review.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've moved on from Kate Tempest - I'm now reading Jock Serong's (local author!) second novel 'The Rules of Backyard Cricket'. Speechless with enjoyment

Just started Signal Loss, loving it, but was not expecting to laugh out loud! You are in for a treat, Brenda....
I'm am reading absolutely nothing, nada, zip, zilch at the moment; cant wait till I get some spare time to dive into a book.
I am currently reading Dirty Sexy Saint
and Hot Ticket
. Hot Ticket is the better of the two, but then I might be a bit bias, because I love those Sinners boys.
Started 'Tell the truth, shame the devil' by Melina Marchetta. I whipped it off the pile of newly processed books - I shall try & finish it and get it back before anyone notices!
I have just started Never Alone by Elizabeth Haynes. One of the narrators, a male, calls himself "you" - it's very distracting! Breaks the flow - hopefully I'll get used to it soon!
