Week 1: Widower/Widow romance
3/15/16
4 stars
This is quickly becoming a favorite series of mine. All of the characters are great. Especially Dylan. He's a freakin' saint, I tell ya! Roan isn't making things easy for him, but the guy keeps sticking around.
Paris is still a huge part of Roan's life. Roan's pain is a tangible thing, but I don't feel like it makes his relationship with Dylan any less. Andrea Speed does an amazing job balancing both men in Roan's heart.
This one left on an interesting note. I'm curious to see where it heads next.

D'aw! I really enjoyed this. Yes, it was a tad on the cheesy and unbelievable side, but it left me with a huge grin on my face.
Isaac and Carter were really great together. The progression of their relationship was perfect. I liked that Carter didn't let Isaac get away with his moody crap he was always trying to pull. I'm excited to read more of them.

I liked this, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I have enjoyed this series, but this one had a lot of hurt feelings and denial. I was expecting more link to the other characters too. I was not expecting the suspense aspect, which had a weak resolution too. I think I would have been happier with it, but it lacked when compared to the others in the series - even though the author says it really isn't a series.
I listened to the audio and thought the narrator, Paul Morey, did a good job.

Just like Breann I really enjoyed this sweet romance.
Isaac has lost his sight and his mum in an accident at the age of 8. Due to this tragedy and some more losses in his life he is now an arrogant, moody guy who doesn't allow himself to get really attached to someone (not even to his dog).
Carter is the new vet in town and he's so patient and supportive with Isaac.
They are great together and I enjoyed the slow progression of their romance.
Sometimes, I just wanted to smack Isaac, especially because of how he treats his dog Brady and I was so glad when Carter finally stands his ground and calls Isaac on his bullshit.
The two dogs Brady and Missy are absolutely lovely and Carters loud best friend Mark is funny and snarky!

I love this book so much. I've read it a few times, one of the few I actually do that with. And it never gets boring or stale. I still always root for Web and Cy. I still always believe in their love. This is fluffy to the extreme but it works. I always find myself smiling. Sometimes you just need something to make you happy, and this book does that for me.

Chloe was a nervous single mother and Ben was a sweet character. He is a vet and he treats wild animals. He had a tragic past and did not trust easily. The romance bloomed slowly between them. Having Shoshone blood in him, he has some psychic power in him to heal animals. The wild animals come to him when they are wounded. It was an OK read for me as it had many clichés.

Another new to me author and I enjoyed the set up for this series. It had a Virgin River feel to it with a small town setting in Colorado where everyone knows each other. Nicole and Gabe are both getting over painful pasts when they find each other in Eternity Springs. The development of their relationship seemed rushed but I liked how Nicole helped Gabe to get over all of the loss he experienced despite his tendency to be a jerk. All of Nicole's friends were likable characters and I look forward to continuing with this series to read their stories. I am really intrigued to find out Sage's secrets in the next book.

Definitely too short!
This book is a second chance story, told alternating between both Chris and Justin's point of view with flashbacks to their initial relationship. There's a lot of emotions, of love and hurt on these few pages and I loved every word of it. My only complaint about it is that I would have liked to read much more about the present time.

I really like the unique concept of this series and the world building was great. All of the characters were interesting and likable. This story was an interesting mix of Urban Fantasy and Science Fiction with a little mystery thrown in and I enjoyed it. I definitely plan to continue with the series.

This is my first book by Cindy Gerard. It was a fast paced adventurous romantic suspense. Jenna and Gabe are caught up in the game of a madman who wants revenge and won’t stop until they are both dead. While there is a lot of action, Jenna has to prove that she is the right woman for Gabe. The heroine was smart and sassy. Though this is a first book in a series, the main characters have some history which was in another book by the author. Even the villain was from that book.

Over the top, cheesy, romantic suspense. It was fun and fast paced. Lilly and Travis were hot and had some good chemistry. Despite my eye rolling moments, it was a good read. I'll probably read the next book at some point, just not anytime too soon.

This one fell a little flat for me. I enjoyed it, but it was all too easy. Still, Eve Langlais is always good for a lighthearted story and that works for me. She writes quirky characters and puts them in fun situations. This one is had all that, but I think since it was the last it tried to wrap up all the couple and the primary couple didn't get enough attention. Their main conflict was resolved in a way that almost didn't fit with the characters either. I would still recommend the series and this book and plan to read more by the author myself.

Review:
I'm not sure what to say about this one. It was okay. Something kept me from fully connecting though. I'm not positive what though. I liked Lowell, and I liked Jeremy. I even liked the promise of them together, but something in the result was missing. I think it was the lack of actual time spent together between them to build the relationship. There was more telling than showing, in a way. I liked that Lowell's identity crises was actually addressed. That almost never happens. I found Zach pretty annoying in this book, which I hate. He came across smug that he'd found love, and almost sabotaging Jeremy's effort to find the same by constantly undermining his thoughts or feelings. At least for the start, he mellows out when the story is winding up. I don't like that the resolution to the Lowell drama happens off page. It's lackluster. Meh.

Review:
Really enjoyed this for the most part. I loved the blurb and the cover. They really fit the book, which doesn't always happen. I loved Madeline, and while my shyness/anxiety is not as severe as hers, I really related to her. The letters at the beginning really give a great picture of who she is and why she concocted the whole thing. It was rather ingenious. But Logan ended up paying the price for her impulsive action and he finds her in order to get his due. Logan was pretty amazing. His devotion, bordering on obsession, to his men was admirable. His past was heartbreaking. I loved how every inadvertent thing he did made it impossible for Maddie to resist him, and it does the same for the reader. I really loved the build up between them. The banter was on point! The supporting characters were memorable. My heart really felt for poor Grant. His character is just heartwrenching. Logan's other men were great. Maddie's aunt was amazing. But I have to confess, this book started to lose my interest as I read. Once they fall in love, even if they don't realize it quite as soon as the reader does, it kind of peters out. There's no real obstacle or angst. There's no real drama or reason for them not to make the most of their marriage. Other than their own selves getting in their way. But still all in all a great book. It's Tessa Dare. The good far outweighs the bad/lackluster.

This is not your typical historical. It was more like the other books in the series, with the modern humor and even manners of speech. But once you acknowledge that and take it for what it is - more a modern retelling of a family story than a historically accurate account of the events, it was enjoyable. It was lighthearted and fun and the narration was enjoyable. I'm very glad the audio finally came out or I might have put this off even longer!
