Ang from OZ | 1690 comments I finished "Of Metal and Wishes" last night. I have series book brain now from this book, book 2 doesn't come out until August next year, NEXT YEAR!!! :(

Oh well, going to start Gone Girl, as the fella's at work are reading it. A few of us here are book worms at work, so I try to read a book with them every few months. (Although they are men, and don't really have the same taste in books as I do)

Not sure I'll get much reading in over the next few days, I desperately need to do some house keeping, and Bathurst 1000, the V8 Supercar race is on TV this weekend!! "Go Team HOLDEN"!!!

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments Finished The Five Bells and Bladebone by Martha Grimes. Well done. If she had tied the two story lines in earlier I would have given it 5 stars.

Gonna try something new tonight. Picked up some free eBooks by Mark Dawson, so I thought I might try 1000 Yards

Yes that what I think too, it's nice to step out of your normal reading comfort zone and try new things. And it makes it more fun when you can discuss with someone.

A fair way into Gone Girl now, hmmm the plot thickens... Interested to see where this turns out in the end. I wouldn't say its the easiest book to read though.

I am reading Gone Girl too, though only about 90 pages into it. I like the book so far, but I can't say that I like the characters very much. At first, I thought I liked the husband better than the wife. Now I don't think I like either one of them. Who knows what I'll think as I continue reading! What about you?

Tarheelgirl, you'll probably change who you like and don't like about a million times as you get into the book more. But yes I don't particularly "like" either of them either. The story is interesting though. And I can't wait to see how it all ends. I've about 70 pages left to read.

Wow Ang, you are almost done! The book is really interesting and it definitely has me wondering where exactly it's going and how it is going to turn out. And you're right, last night I was reading and I felt a little sympathy towards Amy. I plan on reading some more today at lunch, and I'll probably feel differently then.

message 309: by Karen (new)

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments I just finished reading a great new book by L.Z. Marie, The Merkabah Recruit.
To sum it up, imagine Clark Kent the mild mannered reporter who is really a super hero saving the world....But he is a meek, mild mannered assistant professor working on her doctorate and has no idea that she is supposed to save the world till big, chunking, unbelievably hot walks in to her life and turns her world upside down.
The book is well written and the bad guys (and Good guys) will surprise you for they are not your normal monsters under the bed. These guys were real enough to make me let my 55lb basset hound sleep with me for protection. Loved it!!!

Well I've fallen down on the job on my reading listing as happens when my review plate gets full.
So enlighten me everyone
What Have you Been Reading

Last week for my in-person book club I chose The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
He is not one of my favorite authors because he often does not give a happy ending but I know a lot of my friends like him.
This was a good book club choice, it was YA and it was a heartbreaker but at least he gave some hope at the end.
Okay Your Turn ;)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments So I started "Before I go to sleep"

Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson

This is another book that has been made into a movie. And has Aussie Actress Nicole Kidman in it.

The book is interesting so far, only about 12% into it but I feel like I don't want to put it down.

message 314: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished Gone Girl yesterday! What twists and turns! Has anybody seen the movie yet?

message 315: by [deleted user] (new)

Just started reading The Potluck Club by Linda Evans Shepherd by Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson.

It is still free at B&N if anyone is interested.

I enjoyed Gone Girl, but now I decided to change pace and read something totally the opposite!

Still reading The Potluck Club. It's about these ladies who get together for a potluck and supposedly to pray, but somehow seem to focus more on gossip! Imagine that!

It's one of those hilarious books with plenty of touching moments as well.

Well I'm still reading Stalked a true life story about a man who was on of Castro's elite special forces who escaped to come to America. The author is his neighbor and she spent years listening to his stories and decided to write it.

I finally hauled myself off to the doctor I thought it was nothing, turns out I have sinus infection, an ear infection and strep throat! Well there go my weekend plans LOL

message 327: by Ang from OZ (new)

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Goodness Debbie!!!! I bet you're feeling miserable. I've been unfortunate enough to have all three at once also. I'd compare it to feeling like you've been run ovet by a train! Take Care and plenty of fluids!! xxoo hope you get better soon!

Looks good Ang

I'm knee deep into my February reviews :)
I did slip in a gritty look at a novel of connected short stories that takes place in a dying New Jersey shore town in the early 70s brought back so many poignant memories of that time for me.
I'll be reviewing/interviewing the author late this month.
