Currently Reading? Just Finished? 2016
I've started Celebrity in Death, I've never read anything by J.D. Robb, I didn't realise she was so prolific!
Hello everybody I am currently reading "The Last Detective" by Peter Lovesey, I am at page 118, and I love it!
I finished Now You See Me by S.J. Bolton. A 'Jack the Ripper' copycat is murdering women in London and DC Lacey Flint - who has a troubled past - gets pulled into the harrowing investigation. Pretty good beginning to the Lacey Flint series. 3 stars. My complete review:

Yesterday I finished Lily King's Euphoria, which is not a crime novel, but historical fiction. I'm about to finish Methland: The Death and Life of an American Small Town, which is another nonfiction eye opener that's blowing me away. I'm also working on a French novel of 1901 called Monsieur De Phocas, which I'm reading excruciatingly slowly on purpose.
Thank You to Net Galley, the publishers and the author for a advanced copy.
Flora Dane is a victim.
Seven years ago, carefree college student Flora was kidnapped while on spring break. For 472 days, Flora learned just how much one person can endure.
Flora Dane is a survivor.
Miraculously alive after her ordeal, Flora has spent the past five years reacquainting herself with the rhythms of normal life, working with her FBI victim advocate, Samuel Keynes. She has a mother who’s never stopped loving her, a brother who is scared of the person she’s become, and a bedroom wall, covered with photos of other girls who’ve never made it home.
Flora Dane is reckless.
...Or is she? When Boston Detective D.D. Warren is called to the scene of a crime-- a dead man and the bound, naked woman who killed him-- she learns that Flora has taken on three other suspects since her return to society. Is Flora a victim, or a vigilante? And with her firsthand knowledge of criminal behavior, could she hold the key to rescuing a missing college student whose abduction has rocked Boston? When Flora herself disappears, D.D. realizes a far more sinister predator is out there. One who’s determined that this time, Flora Dane will never escape.
And now it is all up to D.D. Warren to Find Her.
A unique and different story, compelling and gripping with a flawed character in Flora Dane, with her flashbacks of her past and her life now, can't think of one I liked reading more than Flora, she was complex and strong but also flawed, she's someone dealing with trauma as best she can, oh and yes and the great return of DD.
A plot, where I did not know the villain, and my guess was way out !!
Gripping, tense, great characters and lots of red herrings.
A four star book for me, and recommended, a great author.

I love Christopher Fowler's work. I can't even tell you why I love it, I just do.

I've just finished Childhood's End, by Arthur C. Clarke, and I'm sort of grounded today so I'll be reading more of Monsieur De Phocas.

This sounds really good & I love Lisa Gardner!
I finished X by Sue Grafton. Private detective Kinsey Milhone is working on two investigations and dealing with bad neighbors in this story. Not quite as good as previous books in the series but worth reading. 3 stars. My complete review:

I just finished Raymond Chandler's [book:The High Window|2049, the 3rd book in the Marlowe series. Loved it!My review is here.
I finished the old year off by rereading When Will There Be Good News by Kate Atkinson. It was very helpful for me to revisit how she handled multiple POVs. I'm in 2 library book clubs and they have me reading a lot of genres, so I haven't gotten past the cozy mystery of Buried in a Book by Lucy Arlington yet. It's still only January.

I keep telling myself that ... it's still only January. I've been reading one very difficult novel (non-crime) for nearly two weeks now!

I'm reading Ed McBain's See Them Die which is about the 13th book in the 87th Precinct series. This one is so different from the previous books, much more of a literary tone. Some of the books have been very formulaic and others he experiments with different combinations of what drives the novel - character, setting, plot. Very noir, of course, but I very much enjoy his writing.
Reading longbourn by Jo barker and it's good but the main character I feel has too much modern influence from the author so that I find it quite jarring but I do love looking at the main characters from pride and prejudice from the other side as in the servants and I find that great
"Summit Lake" has appealing characters, red herrings, ethical indiscretions, building suspense, and a wonderful and surprising twist at the end. An auspicious debut novel by a promising new novelist. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I finished Lion Plays Rough by Lachlan Smith. Defense attorney Leo Maxwell investigates police corruption while defending a man accused of rape and looking into a cold murder case. Overly convoluted plot. 3 stars. My complete review:

I finished the woman who walked into the sea by mark Douglas-Home it was a decent whodunit, now onto Night film ny Marisha Pessl which looks very good
I just finished an audiobook of Val McDermid's newest Carol Jordan/Tony Hill thriller, Splinter the Silence. I've always enjoyed this series. My review is here.
Starting Fantômas by Marcel Allain & Pierre Souvestre today. I'm also reading (non-crime) The Adventure of the Busts of Eva Perón, by Carlos Gamerro, a sort of absurdist farce examining a dark part of Argentina's history. What can I say - I read strange books.
I finished Knots and Crosses by Ian Rankin. In this first book in the series, we're introduced to DS John Rebus, a troubled cop drawn into the hunt for a serial killer who targets teen girls. The book has some flaws but it's an okay introduction to a very good series. 3 stars. My complete review:

Just started Death in the Clouds by Agatha Christie although mine is called Death in the Air. I haven't read a Christie in years and so far enjoying it. There is a coke head in it!

You'd be surprised: there were a LOT of cokeheads back then. It just wasn't as out in the open as it is now.

Gone Girl Just finished it & thought it was one of the best books I have read for a while. Did not see the twist coming at all. My radar for such things must be not as good as it once was. Am certainly going to get round to her other 2 novels when I get the chance.
I finished A Bali Conspiracy Most Foul
by Shamini Flint. After a terrorist bombing in Bali, Inspector Singh is sent from Singapore to help investigate. Singh knows nothing about terrorists but soon finds a homicide to solve - with the help of an Australian policewoman. Good mystery in an exotic setting. 3.5 starsMy complete review:
