I just finished reading a review copy of Earning the Rockies: American Ground and the Fate of Empire. It's curious that a book that I received before the election, and one that focuses on geography no less, has offered me the most cogent explanation to date of how Donald tRump came to be elected.

I read that a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I got his latest, Under the Midnight Sun for Christmas this year.

I also just finished an ARC of The Nowhere Man by Gregg Hurwitz and it was outstanding!

I finished Two Days Gone by Randall Silvis.

When his wife and three children are murdered, Thomas Huston - a college professor, best-selling author, and (formerly) great guy - is the prime suspect. Police Sargeant Ryan DeMarco, who has problems of his own, is tasked with apprehending the writer. Good literary mystery. 3.5 stars.

This is one I read a little while ago which is now a favourite. The Whites by Harry Brandt is an absolutely first-rate novel that happens to cover crime/police/mystery/families/despair/retribution/life/love/death. Have I missed anything much? Brandt certainly didn't.
