Finished Woman of the Dead. I have to say that for me, it was not a good read at all. As I noted, if you write a thriller, it should pretty much thrill. This book reminds me of why I quit reading thrillers in the first place.
I just finished Boy, 9, Missing
my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This has really been the summer of the thriller for me. They're starting to gel together a bit at this point, but this one sticks out.

I'm almost finished with my second William Coughlin book. This one is Shadow of a Doubt and it's a cracking good read, much like the other one I read, Death Penalty. Even if you think you don't like legal mysteries, give this author a try. You might be surprised. Plus I think they're both 99 cents right now.Anybody else familiar with this author?
Okay ... Shadow of a Doubt is 99 cents. Death Penalty is $7.99 on Amazon. I guess I got it on a promotion. Sorry about that.
Just finished Murder Bay: A Ben Carey Mystery by David R. Horwitz. Started today Yellow Ribbon by Mike Faricy. This promises to be a good one!
Currently I have three books going.
The Wretch of the Sun, by Michael Cisco, which I'm loving but which requires a very slow pace;
The Many, by Wyl Menmuir, from the Booker Longlist, and
From our very own Gary Inbinder, The Hanged Man: A Mystery in Fin de Siecle Paris, the second in his lovely series set in France.

Just finished Good as Gone by Amy Gentry. Quite an enjoyable read. My review of this book can be found here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished Walter Mosley's "Devil in a Blue Dress". Published in 1990, but even more relevant in the United States today, with the Black Lives Matter movement etc.
I finished End of Watch
by Stephen King, the third book in his "Bill Hodges" detective trilogy.A sociopath who's developed paranormal abilities is manipulating people into killing themselves and retired detective Bill Hodges (and his ragtag team) are trying to stop him. A good additon to the King oeuvre. 4 stars.

Still about 100 pages to go in The Wretch of the Sun,
Devoting today's reading time completely to The Hanged Man: A Mystery in Fin de Siecle Paris, and
I've finished The Many, which I'll be reading a second time because once isn't enough.

On the verge of finishing The Hanged Man: A Mystery in Fin de Siecle Paris by Gary Inbinder -- a member of our group. I'll probably be done late tonight. It comes out 8/15 from Pegasus Crime. It's book two in a series.
just finished Despite The Falling Snow by Shamim Sarif, and am in the middle of Gorky Park and The Septembers of Shiraz
Clean slate -- finished all three books mentioned above. That was rough. I'm giving The Many a reread and starting a crime novel from Peru called Remember the Scorpion.
I'm getting into
The Black Echo, the 1st Harry Bosch and enjoying very much. Glad, so far, that I finally gave it a try.

agree! like comfort food, always go back to it.
I just finished The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy . Those big, green Vogon bureaucrats are hilarious - do they remind you of your local highway construction experts? 'The Renovation Notice has been posted on Alpha Centauri bulliten board for the last 50 years'. hahahaha .
I'm most of the way throughThe Long and Faraway Gone, which I suppose could be considered mystery/thriller, as there are two parallel subplots in the novel, one of a private detective investigating a nightclub owner who is being harassed by a mysterious party; the other follows a woman trying to figure out what happened to her sister who disappeared mysteriously 25 years earlier. The writing isn't bad, but I really am not that interested in the woman herself, as she doesn't strike me as very likable, as well as kind of stupid in her choices. The guy was the sole survivor of a mass shooting at around the time that the woman's sister a disappeared. The two main characters have met a couple of times during the course of the novel, and it is implied in reviews that their stories fully come together at the end. Frankly, I would have found it easier going if the guy's story had been told separately as a book in itself. Both subplots are based on real-life crime stories from Oklahoma City.
I'm planning to read
and
and I was wondering if I can read it with someone. I couldn't see a buddy read thread so I thought I could post here.
I started Eileen by Ottessa Mosfegh very, very late last night (although I hadn't quite planned on reading it just yet) and finished it about 20 minutes ago. Like it a lot, didn't love it, but it did remind me a bit of Patricia Highsmith's work. For those who will put down a book because you don't like the characters, this is NOT for you, since there is nothing at all redeeming in any of the people in this novel. And I stress the word nothing.

Oh! I love that book! Have you read Victorian Murderesses: A True History of Thirteen Respectable French and English Women Accused of Unspeakable Crimes? It's also nonfiction, and very much worth the read.

I finished A Time of Torment
by John ConnollyPrivate Detective Charlie Parker investigates the disappearance of an ex-convict who was previously framed by a reclusive cultish community. I just finished reading Cut: The True Story of an Abandoned, Abused Little Girl Who Was Desperate to Be Part of a Family by Cathy Glass. It's so touching and i can't stop reading it.
Sadly, my reading time has been limited to after bedtime hours for the last few days (ending Monday - yay) but I'm liking The Wicked Boy: The Mystery of a Victorian Child Murderer. The "wicked boy" here is pretty darn wicked.
I've recently started
byPaula Hawkins. Didn't realise it was written this way, so I'm getting used to it. Not 100% sure I like it.

Today I'll finish my crime/night-time read Woman of the Dead (which I don't care for), then right away starting The Wretch of the Sun; for my daytime read I'll be starting on the first of the Booker longlist books I have, The Many, by Wyl Menmuir.
