Finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, by Patrick Suskind, as part of my page to screen challenge. Holy crap - what a good but disturbingly dark book. Watching the film later today. How they can turn this one into a decent movie is beyond me.

Isn't it strange how some really good books become bad movies, and ones with a potential to be a good movie are never adapted.

Now I am reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell which is good so far but I still have a long way to go.

Thank you to Net Galley, the publishers and to Clare the author for an ARC copy for review.
Firstly, I loved Clare's first book a fantastic first novel, the second keeps to the same standard.
A powerful, chilling, gripping tense thriller that keeps you guessing all the way.
When Zoe Walker sees her photo in the classifieds section of a London newspaper, she is determined to find out why it's there. There's no explanation: just a website, a grainy image and a phone number. She takes it home to her family, who are convinced it's just someone who looks like Zoe. But the next day the advert shows a photo of a different woman, and another the day after that.
Is it a mistake? A coincidence? Or is someone keeping track of every move they make . . .
I See You is an edge-of-your-seat, page-turning psychological thriller from one of the most exciting and successful British debut talents of 2015!
Frightening that this could be so easily be true!
Very powerful story, chilling, and gripping, like her debut author a book so powerful it stays in your head, are you being watched?
Clare has done such a good job to keep up her high, no excellent standard of her first book, now cannot wait for her next book. Quickly becoming one of Britain's great authors.
This book grips you to the very last page, great characters enjoyed Zoe character but also Kelly.
Highly recommended and a five star from me.

My favorite Chandler.
My favorite Chandler.
Started The Spiral Staircase aka Some Must Watch, by Ethel Lina White last night. I think this may be a darker book than her usual fare, but I'm only on page 28.

I have been looking for her books. I look forward to your thoughts on this one.

I saw a lot of good reviews. First time reading anything by this author.

The one I have is from 1946, complete with yellowed pages and illustrated with photos from the movie. She's fun to read.

Finished The Spiral Staircase/Some Must Watch. I'll post about it when I've seen the film, but I liked it. The action takes place all in one night and the tension ratchets over the length of the book.

Getting ready to read Some Must Watch.

Sadly, you aren't.

I've never read it.

I am not from Boston. I started it but could not finish it. The Boston dialect was too much work.

Nah, you are not.

That clinched it. TBR time.

About to finish The Transmigration of Bodies by Yuri Herrera (Mexico); finished with Murder Underground, by Mavis Doriel Hay, from British Library Crime Classics -- 1930s British murder mystery -- good, not great, but definitely worth the read.

Bernie Little runs the "Little Detective Agency" with the help of his dog Chet. The book, narrated by Chat from his doggy point of view, tells the story of the search for a missing teenage girl. A fun mystery. 3.5 stars.

What an amazing book. Tom Rob Smith well deserves all the accolades for this story - it was the sort of book that I didn't want to end...

I enjoyed that book so much that I couldn't bring myself to read the other two in that series. Somehow, I just didn't think they could possibly top the first one.

Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King and writes a lot like his dad .....looks like him too :)

And it's even based on a true story, even though the author took some pretty large liberties with it such as moving the events back a few decades.
