Currently Reading? Just Finished? 2016
Right now I'm reading Evil, Inc. by Glenn Kaplan. It's about a man who loses his wife and daughter in a plant explosion that was no accident and later loses his job. He wants to bring to justice the man behind the disaster.

Just finished the latest book in the Roger and Suzanne mystery series
. I've followed this series since the first book and it has never been a disappointment. Very well developed, individual characters and particularly well described locations.

Just finished reading an excellent thriller called Lunar Options, Lunar Options. Can't wait for the next one in the series. It looks like there are 3 other books coming and I'm going to be looking out for them.
I've been reading the "Kurt Wallander" series Henning Mankell for the past few days. the stories are very solid and I've finished the first 5 books without being tired. however, I would've given them 5 stars if I wasn't turned off by the slight sociopolitical commentary in some of the books.
overall a very solid series.
now I'm moving on to book 6 of the series The Fifth Woman
In a dark dark wood by Ruth Ware was really good especially after two poor books, next up is pretty girls by Karin Slaughter

My personal opinion is that Larson's subjects are very different, so I didn't compare each book in terms of being as good as one or another. Isaac's Storm is, in my opinion, his best work.

The Song Poet: A Memoir of My FatherA "Song Poet" in Laos is a person who sings songs about his family, his village and his country. This is a story of a Hmong refugee living in Minnesota and the songs he sings from memory. He sings of Laos before "the iron birds that dropped balls of fire from the sky."
This is a story of tragedy and loss. "I loved you during our sixth miscarriage..."(during an eleven year stay in a Thailand refugee camp).
The author has written this book out of love for her father. This book started slow, but once I was a third of the way in, I was immersed in the stories and culture of the Hmong people and it went very fast. This book is a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I want to thank the publisher for sending me this book through LibraryThing in return for an honest review.

Finished The Murdered Banker by Augusto de Angelis, written in 1935 and recently published by Pushkin Vertigo. Starting I Was Jack Mortimer, by Alexander Lernet-Holenia, published in 1933, also Pushkin Vertigo.
book:Destroyer Angel|17934372] by Nevada BarrMy wife and I both have been reading Nevada Barr's mysteries for 20 years. I enjoyed this book and give it 4 stars out of 5. It is a thriller more than a mystery, because the bad guys are identified at the beginning when they kidnap 2 women and their 2 daughters for ransom. The 4 plus Anna Pigeon, are a raft trip in a US National Forest in Northern Minnesota. Unfortunately for the kidnappers, Anna is on a solitary canoe trip when the kidnapping takes place. The suspense builds as she works to stop them, even though she is unarmed and they have guns. But Anna is an experienced US Park ranger and they are city guys. This was an Amazon purchase.

The Widow by Fiona Barton. Great read!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and started
Strange Tide by Christopher Fowler the third book in the Bryant & May series I have read.
Sandy *The world could end while I was reading and I would never notice* wrote: "and started Strange Tide (Bryant & May, #13) by Christopher Fowler Strange Tide by Christopher Fowler the third book in the Bryant & May series I have read. I have just finished re-reading `Tatiana' by Martin Cruz Smith for the second time. Smith's writing is outstanding. His characterization of the lead, Arkady Renko, is as strong as ever. The atmosphere that Smith creates, particularly his portrayal of Moscow and Kaliningrad, is what makes his novels stand out. The plot is complicated but not overly so. What keeps me coming back to the Renko books is the level of writing. Highly recommended.
Tom wrote: "Sandy *The world could end while I was reading and I would never notice* wrote: "and started Strange Tide (Bryant & May, #13) by Christopher Fowler Strange Tide by Christopher Fowler the third book..."Psst. It is available from private sellers on Amazon. I bought it last week. I love, love, love this series. I will cry real tears when Bryant passes, (whenever Fowler determines that to be) no matter how ridiculous it is to mourn the demise of a creature of the imagination.
Wooo am loving the paper magician trilogy I am currently reading the glass magician and am loving it also the main character I love which usually when they are strong and slightly stubborn can make them more annoying but in this case I love her boldness and strength and I find I emphasise with her just brilliant

Martin Cruz Smith is a wonderful writer. You can't go wrong. Start with Gorky Park. Plot is a bit convoluted but it is an amazing read!
