What MOVIES or DVDs have you seen? (PART NINE: On-Going General Thread)
Joy, Easter Parade was listed in our paper and on the Website for TCM but all we got when we turned it on was "The Robe," and curious if you actually got The Easter Parade.
I guess they show different ones in your area. It was disappointing to see if listed and then she showed an entirely different one. One more quote today: Without trees hammocks would just be blankets on the ground" treeswork.org
“The word hammockable (describing two trees that are the perfect distance apart between which a hammock can be hung) is not in the dictionary, but it should be.”---Dan Kieran, The Book of Idle Pleasures
So what would one name this - lying directly on your deck since you didn't have a hammock and didn't want to go in the house to get a blanket? I did that over the weekend. Was sitting on the deck steps and then just completely laid down. Stayed this was for a good 30 minutes until my husband came by and inquired what I was doing. Pretending I was lying on a hammock!!
The TCM Channel is airing "1776" from 8 to 11 PM tonight, April 17.(This is the film version of the Broadway musical comedy of the same name.)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068156/?...
"A musical retelling of the American Revolution's political struggle in the Continental Congress to declare independence."
Stars: William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard
Adapted from 1776 by Peter Stone
PS - " Large portions of spoken and sung dialog are taken directly from the letters and memoirs of the actual participants."http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068156/?...
"1776 is a musical with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone. The story is based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It dramatizes the efforts of John Adams to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence and to sign the document.
"It premiered on Broadway in 1969, earning warm reviews, and ran for 1,217 performances. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards and won three, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. In 1972 it was made into a film adaptation. It was revived on Broadway in 1997."

Very amusing!
I was at a friend's house for Easter Brunch and we watched a video ____Doctor who: The return of Doctor Mysterio--------Great fun for the die=hard Dr Who fans, which all of us are.
It was the BBC's annual Dr. Who Christmas special.
We had a great video and a great brunch.
Jackie was a great fan of Dr. Who. When I hear his name, I think of Jackie. She was the first one to explain to me who Dr. Who was. Until then, I didn't know.
TCM did show 1776 and I presume it was good. I was extremely tired last night from gardening etc so slept through an hour and a half of it but the last hour and fifteen minutes was enjoyable.
Today I streamed the following movie from Amazon:"Chaplin" (1992) with Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey was great in the role of Chaplin. I'm sure I had seen this film years ago but it was almost like seeing it for the first time.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103939/?...
https://www.amazon.com/Chaplin-Robert...
"A film about the troubled and controversial life of the master comedy filmmaker Charles Chaplin."
Charlie Chaplin's daughter, Geraldine Chapman, played the role of Chaplin's mother. Her grandfather was Eugene O'Neill, the playwright. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geraldi...
The film was adapted from:
My Autobiography by Charlie Chaplin
and
Chaplin by David Robinson
Watched a fun movie tonight and I recommend it in case you haven't already seen it: "Larry Crowne," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Not a great movie just entertaining and good acting.

Robert Downey Jr is a good actor. Adding "Chaplin" on my list of things to watch. Thanks Joy.
Nina wrote: "Watched a fun movie tonight and I recommend it in case you haven't already seen it: "Larry Crowne," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Not a great movie just entertaining and good acting."Like Tom Hanks. Haven't seen this one. Adding to my list. Thanks Nina.
Nina wrote: "Watched a fun movie tonight and I recommend it in case you haven't already seen it: "Larry Crowne," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Not a great movie just entertaining and good acting."It was in my Netflix queue. I moved it up. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1583420/?...
Thanks, Nina. Tom Hanks is always a good bet. Not so much Julia Roberts. There's just something about her I cannot like. Don't know what it is.
You might not like the movie, Joy as Julia Roberts is the main female character. She apparently is on the cover of People Magazine as it features the fifty most beautiful women.
Yes, and Ivanka has a lot of poise as well. (Her plastic surgeon did a good job.) http://beautyeditor.ca/2014/02/07/iva...
Joy H. wrote: "Nina wrote: "Watched a fun movie tonight and I recommend it in case you haven't already seen it: "Larry Crowne," starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Not a great movie just entertaining and good a..."Joy, It's interesting what you say about Julia Roberts, for two reasons. The first is that I used to think that she wasn't too pretty, and one of the reasons why was her mouth. But, now I think she has an interesting beauty and she is a very good actor/actress-I'm not sure what the correct word to use anymore. The other reason is that when I was recently asked to name an actress that I think would be good to play the lead character if my novel were to be made into a movie, I mentioned Julia. One caveat though, and that was that it would have to be someone like her but younger. That answer was made based on how I obviously viewed the character I created and felt that someone like Julia Roberts would probably do an excellent job portraying her.
Jake, what made you imagine Julia Roberts as the lead character in your novel?A Secret Lies Deep by JAKe Hatmacher
I think her style and how she moves. When asked the question, I knew that I would need to pick a younger actress since my character is in her mid twenties. I initially thought maybe Kate Hudson, but she just didn't seem right. So, as I thought further, I pictured Julia. Maybe because the main character often needs to do some deep thinking and I know in some of the roles that I've seen Julia in, she has played some cerebral characters. Maybe that's why. But, the actress would have to be younger, have her poise, etc.

Speaking of casting an actor of the right age, see my next post here.
Last night I watched a Netflix DVD with Kevin Spacey playing in a biopic of Bobby Darin, "Beyond the Sea" (2004).http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363473/?...
Spacey was much too old to play the young Bobby Darin. See my next post for some interesting info about Bobby Darin.
As I said in my last post I watched the film, "Beyond the Sea", a biopic about Bobby Darin, starring Kevin Spacey. In that film we learn that "Bobby Darin was reared by his maternal grandmother, who he thought was his mother. But his real mother was his sister.
Strangely enough, this is also true of Jack Nicholson. His "sister" was actually his mother.
Neither Darin or Nicholson knew of these facts until they were adults.
See the following Wiki pages which state the above:

I guess the movie had nothing to do about sharks!
No, not about sharks. :) "Beyond the Sea" is a 1946 contemporary pop romantic love song by Jack Lawrence, with music taken from the song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet. ... Bobby Darin's version released in 1959 is the best known by many..."FROM WIKI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_...
PS - YOUTUBE CLIP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bRAt...Bobby Darin singing "Beyond the Sea".
"Bobby Darin's version of Charles Trenet's classic "Beyond The Sea" was recorded 1959 before the swing era was dying out. Although "La Mer," the classic, talks of white seagulls, tall wet reeds, rusty houses, and clear gulfs, "Beyond the Sea" talks about a man and his love."
Joy,Yeah, I remember that song. I don't think I've heard it that often, but I do remember hearing it. I wasn't born until 1954.
JAKe wrote: "Interesting, I'll listen on UTUBE. I take it you understood my reference to sharks!""Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear... And it shows them pearly white... Could that someone be Mack the Knife?"

I think she is stunning at any age and no matter what plastic surgery she had done. What a darling child also.
Nina,Sleepless in Seattle, another thing that I reference in my book that is set in your neck of the woods.
Nina wrote: "Watched "Sleepless in Seattle," again after not seeing it for several years and still liked it."I am currently listening to an audio CD of a book which is a memoir about Nora Ephron who wrote the screenplay to "Sleepless in Seattle". The book is called:
She Made Me Laugh: My Friend Nora Ephron by Richard Cohen.
Nora Eprhon was a marvel!
Below is a link to a YouTube of a Nora Ephron interview.

Watched an entertaining movie last night. "The Terminal," staring Tom Hanks and if he isn't the best movie actor around now, I wonder who is? And Steven Spielberg directed this movie. Such an array of interesting characters. See it if you haven't already.

Tonight on TCM-TV I watched "Witness for the Prosecution" (1957) It was terrific. I had never seen it before. Charles Laughton was superb!http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051201/?...
