I guess we already knew what the definition of 'blabbermouth" was but never would have imagined the explanation of "smart alec." That was such a common usage forever with me..Thanks for looking this up.
TCM-TV is currently airing another classic:"Splendor in the Grass" (1961)

I think that Warren Beatty is one of the handsomest movie stars ever. And he has aged beautifully at age 80!

Of course his sister is lovely Shirley MacLaine and he's married to lovely Annette Bening.

"Splendor in the Grass" ends with the following quote:"Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;"
---William Wordsworth
I was once in Wordsworth's cottage and had sticky pudding and coffee in the little dining room. It is a lovely little house.
Wordsworth's cottage is in the village of Grasmere England as the edge of the Lake District. Beatrix Potter's isn't too far from here also.
Watched on Netflix, "Hugo" Loved the setting - train station. Clock settings wheels and parts.

I liked the movie so much, last night I dreamt about trains and clocks and cool hiding spots ...Glad I came upon the movie.
We tried "Father Brown" on Netflix yesterday. One reason is because there are 60 episodes. Ha!http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2215842/f...
Watched episode 1. So far so good.
The NYT magazine gave a lengthy review of the new version of "Anne of Green Gables," and not sure I'll like it. Focuses somewhat on her abusive past and supposedly updated. I'll wait and see. they said this original book transcends time unlike many other children's books of it's era.
Watched many times, "It Happened One Night," and then once again last night and this time actually looked at Claudette Colbert's facial expressions and she was amazing. No wonder she won the Oscar. The first movie to win all five Oscars and not another one until "A Cuckoo Flew Over the Bird Nest," and then on other won all five the "Hannibal movie" and I forgot the entire title. Just some trivia

Nina wrote: "The new Anne of Green Gables isn't a new book; it's a new version of the former movie."Oh, I see. Thanks, Nina.
Nina wrote: "I always enjoyed watching Father Brown. So many good British shows."Agree, many good British shows.
We saw "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" last night & went to dinner. James & Lauren bought us dinner while Erin & Josh took us to the movie, our big celebration for our 35th wedding anniversary. The movie was a lot of fun, but a far different story line than the cartoon took. Star Lord's father was well played by Kurt Russell, perfect for the part.
Watched Rogue One recently. Besides the first Star Wars movie, I believe that was episode 4, I liked this one more than the others. Perhaps it was that it was more like the first one. Last night my wife and I watched La La Land. 2/3 rds through I was not sure what to make of it, but the last third drew me in.
Joy, I get my La la tomorrow on my husband's birthday. Next day he has cataract surgery. Today had a brunch for his visiting from Milwaukee cousins. Turned out nice weather and they seemed to enjoy the company and food.

Happy Belated 35th anniversary!!
I watched "La La Land". Then I skimmed through some reviews at:https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/08/mo...

First of all, who has time to read the long reviews linked above?
Second of all, I can only give my own impression, without all the complicated considerations in the reviews. I thought there was great chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. There was a little too much music and not enough plot for my taste. The plot was nostalgic in a sad way. As one review suggested, the theme was romance versus ambition, indicating the sacrifices that performers make to attain success.
I enjoyed the dancing scenes between Gosling and Stone. There are a lot of "dreamy" scenes which the viewer must interpret in order to get the gist of the real plot. Parts of the movie were on the sad side and I wasn't ready for that.
I found the movie to be a very unusual presentation, not a straightforward story, more of a musical with surrealistic scenes.
All in all, I enjoyed seeing Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a couple.
PS-Here is the IMDb page:"La La Land" (2016)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3783958/?...
"A jazz pianist falls for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles."
I like jazz and piano music - I'll give this movie a try. Hey, who doesn't like going to la la land once in a while? ha ha

I'd be interested in your take, Linda.
Thanks for the birthday wishes and I'll pass them along to my husband. Last year when he reached ninety was the big celebrtion with out of town visitors etc. Yet, yesterday his cousins were in town from Milwaukee so I had them all over to lunch and he enjoyed being with them and it was like a pre-celilbration. My husband is originally from MIlwaukee WI. Tonight we are going with a friend to a local hamburger establishment that has been here since 1940. It was one of the first drive in's in the country when it opened and I went there as a teen ager. Of course it is no longer a drive in but still has wonderful hamburgers and thick milkshakes which he loves. This hamburger place is located at the entrance of our Plaza shopping area which was the first outdoor shopping establishment in the US. Enough history. Thanks for listening.

Ah, I love and have read all of Agatha Christie's books.
Charles Laughton is an excellent actor.
I do miss the TCM channel (downgraded my selections to reduce cost).
