What MOVIES or DVDs have you seen? (PART NINE: On-Going General Thread)
To celebrate Erin's birthday, we saw the latest Thor movie last night & all really liked it. It was good, full of the same roller coaster ride of action & snark that made the first Avengers movie so good. Stan Lee got a slightly longer part, too. Pure fun & a really good pick on the main song; Led Zepplin's, The Immigrant Song. Fit perfectly. All the actors were well cast.I watched the new Spiderman during the week. It was exhausting, but not bad over all. Spiderman is younger which was OK, but he had the energy of a rat on crack. The addition of a wing man & high tech suit were unnecessary, as if they're trying to make him into Tony Stark/Iron Man. Aunt May as a MILF, no. Hell no! Old, kindly, clueless Aunt May was an iconic part of the comic books & they've blown that completely. Boo. Still, I'll watch another.
We just finished watching a mini-series based on a book by Margaret Atwood - "Alias Grace" https://www.netflix.com/title/80119411
Location: Kingston and Toronto Canada
Is Grace a murderess? Intriguing. Towards the end we were watching just to see where the story line was headed.
Overall a good mini-series.
An award-winning novel.
OOOPS! My error. _Alias Grace_ was very good.
I was thinking of _The Handmaid's Tale_ by the same author. (Margaret Atwood)

I just finished watching "About a Boy" (2002)https://www.amazon.com/About-Boy-Hugh...
Based on Nick Hornby's best-selling novel, About a Boy. Starring: Hugh Grant.
I enjoyed it. It's a feel-good story with lots of thought behind it.
I streamed it via Amazon Prime.
Nina wrote: "I tried reading our book selection this month, "Badasss Librarians....and finally gave up. So much description that I couldn't get into the story line. Took it back to the library."I don't care for a lot of description either, Nina.
I tried to order it but said "very long wait," so I'll try sometime later. I have had no luck in the past with the very long waits/like never get it.
If you keep it at the top of your Netflix queue, you will get it sooner or later. It's worth waiting for. RE: "About a Boy"
I am watching "Reign," and enjoying it very much. You might have already seen it. But, if not, it's on Netflix and I recommend watching it.
Nina wrote: "I am watching "Reign," and enjoying it very much. You might have already seen it. But, if not, it's on Netflix and I recommend watching it."Oh good. You started watching Reign. We watch an episode each night. Also, watching the new episodes of "The Crown."

Good review. With your review, I will now add "About a Boy" to my watch list.
I tried watching "Victoria". (TV Series (2016– ) These films about royalty are too slow-paced to be interesting.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5137338/?...
"The early life of Queen Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18 to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert."
Joy, I have "Victoria" on my watchlist. I found Season 1 of "The Crown" to be a good pace. Now Season 2 does seem a bitter slower paced.
Started watching "Newsroom" with Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, Jane Fonda and more. 3 seasons and 25 episodes 2012-2014
Very interesting. Fast paced. Watched 2 episodes so far.
I'm looking forward to watching another episode tonight. Probably not until 8pm as husband is blowing snow. :(
Happy New Year Everyone! We watched movie "August Rush" - saw it a few years ago. A good feel movie.
https://www.netflix.com/title/70077533
Still watching "Reign" and "The Crown." Truly miss the "Newsroom" and looking through Amazon Prime and Netflix for a good replacement.
We are watching the series "West Wing" on Netflix. After all these years, we find the show to be good. Good casting. Nina had mentioned a movie with Haley Mills. Now that's someone I haven't thought of in quite some time. Her sister is Juliet Mills. Remember "Nanny and the Professor?"
Nina, mentioned she is now watching "Victoria." Such a difference in the clothing styles from "Reign" and "Victoria." Victoria's clothing is more simple.
"Reign" clothing seems more like costumes. Embroidery. Corsets. Jeweled dresses. Lace. Some dresses have many layers. Men's blazers, jackets were very tailored, buttons, cuffs. Beautiful.
Yes, indeed! The tv series showed everyone in a couple of different outfits each episode. Makes me wonder how many gowns each Queen and her staff actually had in their closet. Seems so frivolous.
There's a great old movie available at YouTube:"My Man Godfrey" (1936)
Stars: William Powell & Carole Lombard

"A scatterbrained socialite hires a vagrant as a family butler...but there's more to Godfrey than meets the eye."
This is one of my favorite movies.
PS - I just noticed that "My Man Godfrey" is also available free via Amazon Prime:https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detai...

One of them is in color!
I don't usually enjoy seeing a movie a second time, but William Powell is exquisite in this film. And Carol Lombard is lovely.

Joy, thanks! I'll look for this on Netflix. We enjoy watching the old movies.
Found "My Man Godfrey" on Amazon Prime (I miswrote and typed Netflix in earlier response). We are still watching "West Wing." There are 7 seasons with 22 episodes each.

Still watching "West Wing" and waiting for spring and to be outdoors more. Looking forward to drinking morning coffee out on deck and watching the birds.
Probably be finished with "West Wing" tonight. Seven seasons. Certainly can get attached to the characters.
That is how I felt about the characters in Downton Abby. My granddaughter who lives in the LA area wrote to me saying she was moving in February and when she saw the house for the first time she said it looked to her like Miss Havisham's. So she had to have it. I confess I had to google Miss Havisham. Do any of you know who Miss Havisham is?
No, didn't know anything about Miss Havisham. Looked her up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Ha...
I love the book "Great Expectations" and the movie too! I can recall the mansion which was in much disrepair.
It was the grounds that reminded my granddaughter of Miss Havisham's place. You had to enter through an iron gate and there were lots of lovely plantings.
To relax last night after our trip, we finished watching "West Wing." Very good show. Ending was satisfying. Good casting. Will miss the show and all the characters. On to the next ...
I sometimes watch The Big Bang Theory on TV. The relationship between Sheldon Cooper and Amy Fowler is so amusing.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898266/?...
The Big Bang Theory is an American television sitcom.See WIKI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big...
Here is a link to a Youtube video showing: "Best of Amy & Sheldon":

Sheldon is Geeky and socially awkward. An interesting character.
Some of the actors on the show make tremendous salaries.

We tried "Downtown Abby" but probably weren't in the right frame of mind. Still have it on our Watchlist to give it another try.
"Longmire" - the last season will be on mid-November.
