Serial Killers are not Recoverable
By the time I'm finished, I will have read three sub-series, making up one whole series. But, I'm focusing on getting it done. Thankfully, the books don't take long to read.
Instead of finishing series, I have started a bunch of new ones... I am not really doing a good job.I have thus made a sort of plan to finish some of these until the end of 2016; hopefully, I'll be finishing 5 more series by then.
It's so hard not to start new series, isn't it?

I'm refusing to buy or start any new ones. I'm being stubborn about it now. I have to finish one before I can start a new one. Finished The Passage series recently and now working on the last book of the Bill Hodges series and then I can look at starting 2 new series :-)
That's a great idea, Sarah. I've go so many "firsts" read, that I think I'll go through and decide whether or not I wish to continue with them and possibly clear a bunch off that way.I've got the last book in the Harry Potter series borrowed from the library. I refuse to call the play script, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child part of the series until it's written in a novel format. My choice. My rules.
I've got two more in the Night Huntress series, but there are several sub-series woven through the author's recommended reading order, so I will start one of the sub-series in order to finish it. But, I'm getting there.
Oh, and the other that's close to being done is the Bill Hodges series.
I have been trying hard not start new ones, but have also not made any progress on clearing out the old ones. If they do not fit in my Geo challenge, it is hard for me to want to work them in. That said, I have two books to finish up an Australian series Tomorrow) and I have not managed to work them in yet.
I haven't made too much progress against my old series. In May I finished the His Dark Materials series, and also read the last of Valente's Fairyland books.Of course I picked up two more series in that time: the Gentlemen Bastard series, and Temeraire...even when I'm not reading much, I can't help myself with the series!!!!
What do you do think of the Gentlemen Bastard series, Lynda? I'm right up to date with that series and eagerly awaiting the next book's release coming up.
I really like it. Great humor, high stakes/consequences, epic adventure...I like that they're lengthy tails, too. I read a lot of books, it seems, in the 250-350 page range, so it's nice now and again to pick something up with some meat on its bones!The Lies of Locke Lamora grabbed me from the beginning, but thoroughly enjoyed the pirate adventure of Red Seas Under Red Skies (which I read for the Geocache challenge based on Sarah's suggestion). Looking forward to picking up the next book.

I was going to start The Lies of Locke Lamora next, but I forgot that I said I would do a buddy read for another book for New Zealand. I just need to wait a little longer.I started a 4 book series called The City of Ember. It is a middle school read that Amy bought for a road trip, for her boys to listen to.
After listening to the first two books, The City of Embers and The City of Sparks, I have decided not to continue with the next two in the series. I'm not even putting them on my list. I think I am giving up on The Green Knowe books too. The first three audio books were cute, but I cannot locate any more. I started listening to a SciFy audio book tonight called Into the Black: Odyssey One. I think Amy bought it. She keeps buying SciFy audio books that turn out to be series, but only the first two books because that is all there are so far. I think I can use it for my Geo.
One more series down the drain. I finished End of Watch which was the 3rd book in the Bill Hodges Trilogy.
Snap! Bill Hodges series is done and dusted! Pleased but also sad it's over.
I still need to get it. I've been so tangled in the Geo books that I haven't much looked at anything else.
I loved the whole series, Camilla. The second book wasn't as cohesive to the trilogy as the other two, but the final book puts you right back in the fray! It's like Book Two was filler - it gave something for Finders Keepers to do until the timeline was fulfilled. Still, I loved it just as much.
Some of these series are hard to say goodbye to including both The Passage & Bill Hodges trilogies.
Yes, I remember being a bit disappointed with the second book, so glad to hear that the third one is better.
I finished the first Department Q book. Carl M0rck is not Harry Hole, but I liked him and his assistant. They get a place on my list and I'm looking forward to the next book. The narrator, Erik Davies was hard to get used to listening to, but really added depth to the story, after I got used to his accent for some of the voices.
I've got to get back to that series. I've read the first two books in the Dept Q series.
Yes it's a good series i think. I own book 2 which i bought immediately after reading book 1.
There are some series that I will need to re-read the fist book since it's been so long since I've read them. I think I'll be okay with Dept Q though because they aren't continuous stories.
I finished off the Bill Hodges series today too. I thought End of Watch was a great ending to the trilogy.
Yes i think you'll be fine with those ones Janice. I need to get back on with the Dark Tower series before i forget what's going on.
I finished the Harry Potter series in a marathon read yesterday. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was 21-1/2 hour long and I listened to it in 2 days! I'm considering this series complete even though the 8th story in the series was released yesterday. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not a novel. It is the rehearsal script for a play, and until it's released as a novel, I won't be reading it. I hope it's being released as a novel some day.

I am glad you folks are killing off your series. I am just treading water for now. I couldn't even get the two Disworld books read before they expired. At least the Department Q is only 6 books. I need to get back to Harry Hole too. I am not sure what happened to our Buddy Read for the next one. I think we all have too many other books on our plate. Glad to hear that the last Passage book was worth it. Don't know when I will get to that one either.

I suspect that's going to be the reaction for a lot of people.
Plays remind me too much of studying Shakespeare at school. I was scarred.
I have never been scarred by having to read any Shakespeare and have read a couple on my own. I have also read some English translations, mostly Romeo and Juliet.If you want a great introduction to reading a play form AND love the Star Wars movies and know the story lines, I think Ian Doescher's books are GREAT! Here is the first. William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope. I loved the first three and just bought the last three last week.
Yes I'm aware of the star wars Shakespeare - in many ways I want to give it a go but there is something that holds me back. Plus I have too many other books to read. Maybe one day.
I'm trapped in James Patterson's Private series universe. I read a few for the geocaching challenge since they take place all over the world and now I simply must finish the series...I can't possible leave it undone.So far I've tackled Private, Private Berlin, Private India: City on Fire, Private Paris, and Private Rio.
I think I'm going to back track and try to read the rest in order.
I also picked up Boar Island by Nevada Barr, that latest of her mystery series featuring Park Ranger Anna Pigeon. Nice to revisit an old friend.

I just picked it up randomly when visiting the library. Haven't read any of the series earlier (I think they have just this one book).
Funny! I just picked..."Camilla - One of the reasons I like the series is that she is assigned to different National Parks throughout the series. It's a great way to travel without leaving home. I've actually been to several of the parks but it's been fun to learn about others. A few of the books in the series could even be used for the geocaching challenge.
The Book of Ember Series is ashes! After adding it and reading two books, I finally killed it off by listening to the last two books last week. I have also added Philip Marlowe to my list and I am listening to the 2nd audio book. I like it better than the first!
I killed off the Body Farm Series...until they released a new one two days ago. I still consider it finished since we didn't count books published this year. :)

I just picked up another orphan book - #6 in the Dublin Murder Squad - The Trespasser. If I hadn't already read the other 5, I wouldn't call it an orphan. Dang series books. They breed like rabbits.

I'm pleased I started that series late. I have all of them but have only read number 1. perhaps I can time it right to be finished by the next release.

Each book is connected, but could be read as a standalone. So the wait for the next one isn't too bad - not like the one for the Matthew Corbett series. Grrrr. The last book in the series ended in a cliffhanger and who knows when the next book will be published.
