I have now been signed off sick, for another two weeks, so far off three weeks.

Seeing three consultants, as well as my own doctor.

As well as another MRI scan last week.

One specialist for my diabetes, struggling as off and cannot walk as mush as I would like.

One consultant for my bad left shoulder, with pains, nerves trapped in my left arm..

He is also treating my tennis elbow, and also my golf elbow(that is pain top and underneath my right elbow.

Then the other consultant is treating my groin, thigh, lower back problem (Oestist Pubis), inflammation on the pubic and pelvis joints and bones, causing pain down both sides of my calfs..

Suffering piles as well.... no nice..

hey other than all that I am fine... LOL

I guess I am happy I can laugh as I do get very fed up with the pain sometimes...

Also seeing a psychotherapist 2-3 times a week, usually stretching and massaging my lower back and shoulders...

It may come down to giving up tennis !

This I am very worried about, and sad, but I have played many tough and long matches over the years.

Over 140 boxing matches, with 24-28 hours a week of training.

Then for nearly thirty years playing 7, 500 tennis matches, and I still keep all my tennis scores for every match...

Maybe and sadly I may have to give up, or cut down a lot, I will go on the right recommendations...

A lot of thinking while I have been off work..

Looking also at retirement...

I am very lucky my work pays for private medical care, I realise how important this is, (MRI scan is 750.00 a go, and I have had 3-4 this year. X rays around 90.00 for one, Ultra scan about 200.00 a go).

So I know I am lucky with my medical care from work!

That's a lot to deal with Sean! Sorry to hear that.
It sucks that you might have to give up on of your passions, tennis. I am a tennisplayer as well... I don't think I could ever quit unless somebody ties me down :p

So sorry you are on the 'medical treadmill' at this time. Hopefully, the tests provide some answers and some relief. I was diagnosed with tennis elbow a while back( what you get for loving to play, I guess) and after shots and wearing a brace for literally over a year, I healed! I thought my tennis playing days were done, but I guess sometimes we get lucky! Sending positive thoughts to you!

I did find something out today...

Why I have troubles with muscles, and why a massage feels so good for me..

If you have diabetes when you exercise, like tennis your muscles tighten up, this is caused by having diabetes.

I have had two more injections, cortisone in my shoulder, one under my shoulder blade, the other on the top, and one in my golf elbow, which is more painful then the tennis elbow. although very painful to have an injection from the bottom of your elbow going up.

But psychotherapy was good today.

Next week results from the MRI scan.

message 9562: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Have the cortisone shots been playing merry hell with your sugars today, Sean? I got a cortisone shot in my shoulder yesterday and it's been messing with my readings. The highest reading I got last night, even though I didn't really feel like eating that much and therefore probably didn't have very many carbs in the 400s mg/dL. Not sure what translates to in the system they use where you're at.

David Liscio | 60 comments Kids bought me a Paperwhite two or three years ago. I can read at the beach in full sunlight and make the fonts bigger when I crawl into bed at night with tired eyes. An all around great device, though I still love holding a copy of the actual book in my hands. I guess that's why I buy both.

message 9567: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
My first Kindle was a few years ago, the Kindle Touch. Then I upgraded to my first paperwhite because I wanted the inbuilt back-light, plus my Touch was dying. And now I've got a white paperwhite. I've also had a Kindle Fire which the dog has now destroyed. That was ok but I don't like reading on tablets and phones, hurts my eyes. Kindles are convenient, especially at night but I do love real books too. I have a mixture of both. It's nice to have the choice. ☺️

P.K. Davies | 549 comments What was the book your dog objected to, Janet?

message 9569: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Off-white ... I'm more concerned about size and clarity of type. But bright white paper can be downright painful.

message 9570: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Don't mind Times Roman, but my Kindle sometimes has Bookerly which is much easier. But in regular books it's crazy the amount of different authors use. But, when getting interlibrary loans, I"m amazed at how small they can make the font. Cost savings?

message 9571: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Whatever color the publisher decided on. For me, it's not a matter of WHICH font, but how big the font is. if it'd too small, I can't read it.

just a little jog down this path......I also love to cross stitch. I have one beloved designer that is printing her graphs so small, there is no possible way to stitch them. For $12 you get a photo of the finished product, a color chart and this tiny little pattern. Insert cussing!!!! I wear bi-focals and use a special light but still cannot follow.......even with a line minder. I feel like sending her a ream of paper!!!! I have realized I am not very picky when it comes to book font and page color. I am always excited to crack open the book and read! My reading time is so precious to me. I just grin and bare it, I guess.

Janet, If you have some old wash cloths or something, you can soak them in water then freeze. A great teething rag. Just make sure he doesn't eat it. Let him have it long enough to relieve the teething pain. Ice cubes too. Just some things I've used over the years.

Your best bet is to give him something that he is allowed to have in exchange for what he has taken. Labs are fun lol, they are usually food hogs and will attempt to get to whatever catches their attention. They are also big chewers, make sure that you have options for him to choose from and for you to reward him with when he gives you back something he shouldn't have. I prefer leather leashes, there are some special harnesses to help with pulling etc but I've never used them. One way is when the dog starts pulling and disobeying you turn around and go the opposite direction until he isn't pulling then you turn around and head in the direction you want. Rinse and Repeat lol. It might take you awhile to get there but the dog will learn. Someone else mentioned the become a tree method... just stop and don't move until the dog stops pulling.

Obedience classes are your best bet. They teach you how to teach your dog and a well trained dog makes a happy house. A kennel is a must have for any time that you are unable to directly watch your dog. While you work, or shop etc. The dog might complain at first but it becomes their den. They are safe because they are kept from getting into trouble when left to their own devices. Another thing is if you are busy but want your dog around, you can tie him to you with the leash. If you are doing dishes for example, the dog is right next to you and not running off looking for trouble while you are distracted. This is a great potty training tip too. Hope some of this helps. I'm late responding to your post. Have fun and enjoy your pup. Oh yeah! Exercise exercise exercise. Walk your pup multiple times each day, play fetch, burn that excess energy off of him and you will be able to all enjoy each other better. Training burns the mental energy too which is great.

My mom used to take her charts to work and copy them using the enlarge feature.

I used to love Leisure Arts because they made color charts. Sometimes those symbols in the B&W can look way too close for comfort.

Lots of books !!

Happy birthday today

"Kirk Douglas" 101 years old.

Last week he met Dame Judi Dench birthday today 83 years old.

Hollywood royalty came together last week.

Dame Judi Dench and screen icon Kirk Douglas met for the first time ahead of Dench receiving the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Nov. 30. Since the 100-year-old actor was unable to attend, he invited Dench to his Los Angeles home the day before the ceremony.

“I will never forget this moment,” Dench tells People of meeting Douglas in this week’s issue. “He is a legend in our family.”

PS the great Olivia De Havilland was 101 years old on July 1st !

Our own Dame Vera Lynn is 100 years old.

Mary Carlisle still signs autographs at the age of 103 years old

Marsha Hunt is 100 years old (in October, famous American actress)

But to me the best one is the great Norman Lloyd, star of Alfred Hitchock films, played tennis with Charlie Chaplin, is now 103 years old.

He was interviewed in the grounds of his house, next to his tennis court!

Ps Norman Lloyd

Lloyd's wife of 75 years, Peggy, died on August 30, 2011, at the age of 98. The couple had two children, one of whom is the actress Josie Lloyd.[12]

Lloyd began practicing his lifelong hobby of tennis at the age of eight. "With the application and time I have devoted to it, I should have been a reigning World Champion", he said in a 2000 interview.[24] His opponents have included Charlie Chaplin, Joseph Cotten and Spencer Tracy. Lloyd was still playing twice a week[28] until July 2015, when he had a fall. He stopped driving in 2014 at his son's insistence.[10]

Lloyd turned 100 on November 8, 2014.[29] Both of Norman Lloyd's longtime friends and understudies, Ed Begley, Jr. and Howie Mandel (who both co-starred opposite Lloyd on St. Elsewhere) reflected on his centenarian celebration: Begley, Jr. said: "I worked with Norman Lloyd the actor and Norman Lloyd the director, and no one informed me better on the art of storytelling than that talented man. He is a constant inspiration, and my eternal friend"; and Mandel said, "I love Norman Lloyd. He is a legend. I have spent hours like a little kid while he regaled us with stories of Hitchcock. He teaches, he entertains. He is a legend."[30]

At age 102, three weeks before his 103rd birthday, Lloyd attended Game 2 of the 2017 World Series. Lloyd had also attended Game 1 of the 1926 World Series, 91 years earlier, at the age of 11.[31

Very sad to hear the news of Chris Rea.. age 66 years old

On a 37 city tour in the UK.

He collapsed on stage and has been rushed to hospital...

How he is still going I do not know...

Last year he had a stroke, a few years agot he fought and beat pancreatic cancer and also suffers severe diabetes, injected insulin seven times a day !

A great guitarist, songwriter and singer...

Wrote and sang one of my favourite Christmas songs

"Driving Home For Christmas"

Hope he recovers.

Just read this..

Rea had his pancreas removed in 2001 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

He suffered a stroke in 2016, but recovered to launch an album in September and embark on his tour around Europe from October.

He told BBC Breakfast in August this year that he still felt the effects of the stroke.

"I'm fine when I'm sitting down. I've just got a little bit of balance - it's a bit dodgy, just in case anyone thinks I'm drunk on-stage."
