melodie b | 308 comments So I saw this great idea on one of my mom chat boards and want to do it here. She had people pick her 2016 reading list. She did it last year and read all the books and did reviews on each of them. I though this would be fun for me to try.
Im looking for 50 books.
Any genre is fine but I prefer fictions but I'm open to new genres.
It must be under 450 pages.
You can make as many suggestions as you want. If I've read it I'll let you know and I'll choose my fav of all the choices.
And if anyone wants to steal this idea and make a post of their own go ahead. Or you can just copy this one.

Janet (justjanet) | 791 comments Two of the funniest books I've read in recent times

Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple and Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians #1) by Kevin Kwan .

Because sometimes we all just need a laugh.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 200 comments I did this in 2008 and had a BLAST!

A book I love, in the fantasy genre, with beautiful writing and a unique premise: Palimpsest by Catherynne Valente.

Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente

message 7: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Interesting project!

Either (or both) of Marra's books: A Constellation of Vital Phenomena or The Tsar of Love and Techno

Lighter reading that I think were overlooked: The Hundred-Year House by Rebecca Makkai and Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart.

Have fun choosing.

message 8: by Louise (new)

Louise | 279 comments Fun idea :-)

The Various Haunts of Men by Susan Hill

Love, etc. by Julian Barnes

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

and Collected Short Stories: Volume 1 by W. Somerset Maugham

Robin (robin_is_reading) | 1 comments Lovely idea! Happy reading!

The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More by Roald Dahl

The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue. This was a book that left me with a book hangover.

I think you are very brave for taking this on. Right now I'm reading Private Life by Jane Smiley and loving it, so I'll recommend it for you.

Loretta (lorettalucia) | 136 comments My 5 star reads from this year (so far) that are also under 450 pages are:

Columbine by Dave Cullen Columbine
The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson The Orphan Master's Son
The Martian by Andy Weir The Martian
The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez The Book of Unknown Americans
The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League by Jeff Hobbs The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League

A couple nonfiction in there, but they're worth considering I think.

The Kite Runner The Kite Runner. One of the only books (and movies) to make me cry. So very well written. Sad but hopeful too. I will always remember this book. One of the best of the last 10 years, IMHO.

Tabitha (tabithaann) | 2 comments Three of my most recent favourites that are within your page requirement are:

"Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom

"Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer.

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" by Mark Haddon

Great idea for 2016. I may have to try this next year once I knock off my ridiculous TBR! Good luck!

Deb | 38 comments You are so brave!

For variety a non-fiction book called "A Message from Martha" by Mark Avery.

Trust me - it is well-written, so interesting, and will make you cry :).

If you read it and don't like it you may choose a book for me to read in 2017!

Happy 2016!

message 19: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Duncan | 43 comments Very cool idea. I loved many of the books mentioned.
I recommend a 258 page book. City of Thieves

message 26: by Jen (last edited Jan 17, 2016 01:35PM) (new)

Jen (bookandcat) | 31 comments Oh also I want to recommend Blankets by Craig Thompson. I think it is technically over 450 pages but it is almost all pictures so I personally think it should still count. ;) Gorgeous graphic novel memoir, one of the most moving books I've read.
