Portnoy's Complaint
- Who is the author?
Philip Roth

LOTS and lots.. first one that comes to mind is Erich Segal. I just looked at my to-read list and here are the ones just whose last names begin with A: Jussi Adler-Olsen, James Agee, Cecilia Ahern, and Margaret Atwood!! I'm not going to count them now, but if A is any indication, I probably have at least 40 more!!

Update: Portnoy's Complaint was not for me, so I am reading Goodbye, Columbus... liking it alot more so far.

Stephanie (cozyuptocrime) | 58 comments What are you reading this week
The Secret History. I've heard so many good things about this book and that it's a must-read, so I figured this was a good time to pick it up. I had originally chosen Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng for this week (another book I heard a lot of buzz about) but decided to switch that to my book for Week 49 - A book with a great opening first line.
Who is the author?
Donna Tartt. I was torn between this book and The Goldfinch but I decided to start with one of her older works.
Do you have another "to read author"? So many! There are quite a few 'classic' authors that I've always passed on or hadn't finished, so those are good places to start. I think this may be the year I finally read a Jane Austen book.

Do you have another "to read author"? I have managed to knock off quite a few of my to-read authors over the last few years, but I still have a huge list! My main ones would be Leo Tolstoy, Oscar Wilde, William Faulkner, Henry James & Albert Camus. I think I have books by all but Henry James planned for this year - yay!

I'm a bit slow this week as I'm listening to the audio of Their Eyes Were Watching God and haven't had as much time in the car as I expected.

Who is the author?

Zora Neale Hurston

Do you have another "to read author"? There are so many - I considered Maya Angelou, Richard Russo, Ian McEwan, Rohinton Mistry, but I really do have a bookshelf full of authors I'd like to and will get to read.

Do you have another "to read author"?
I am sure that there are a few authors that I should have read by now but off of the top of my head I can't think of any. I have lots a favorite authors that I like to read and tend to stick to them for the most part. If I come across a book that looks and sounds interesting I will add it to my TBR pill, most likely without checking out who the author is first.

Quite a lot. I tend to be the type of reader who sticks to authors that they've read and liked. But I did make it a point to put a good number of new authors on my list. So far this year, I've read Robert Louis Stevenson and Charles Dickens for the first time and I have P. G. Wodehouse, Dan Simmons, Oscar Wilde, Nick Hornby, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Kazuo Ishiguro, and most expectantly: Octavia Butler.

Ghostwritten

- Who is the author?
David Mitchell. A few years ago I read almost exactly half of "Cloud Atlas", but as a non-native speaker/reader the post-apocalyptic part featuring the superstitious, oral culture presented itself as a litte bit too hard to discern / wade through although I loved the preceeding stories. After watching the film I knew I had to restart reading David Mitchell at some point.
