Eileen | 8 comments I enjoy reading books with French themes across many genres so it would be fun to read and discuss some. I read everything from foodie memoirs to WW2 to modern-day thrillers.

This is a great idea, Eileen. I'm going to contact group members and introduce myself. Once I get some interest going again with the group, I'll start a book read. Do you have anything in mind?

message 4: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 8 comments Sounds great Linda! I just started reading The Invisible Bridge which is set in France but I have a bunch more French-themed books in my Goodreads to-be-read list so I'll take a look and see what else jumps out. :)

Therese Gilardi | 12 comments For those who enjoy YA books give "Anna and the French Kiss" and "Isla and the Happily Ever After", both by Stephanie Perkins, a whirl.

message 6: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sjdesigns) | 2 comments Hi, I'm a romantic suspense writer who set her first novel in the Dordogne. However, the first time we went to France in 1972, I felt like I had always lived there. Paris was stunning, but the villages and hamlets were even more attractive. Then came the castles, the Loire Valley, and then the Cote d'Azure. Of course there was Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Alsace regions...endless delights and exceptional food, wine and history. After one vacation, I studied properties to buy in France for six months, because I was so smitten with the area and still am. Love having a site where I can learn about more books set in France. Working now on my second novel set in the Cote d'Azure, I'm deeply into research and writing. In my spare time, I'm a voracious reader, married to my hubby for 52 years and have 3 West Highland Terriers.

Hi Sherry. It's so nice to meet you. It sounds like you've had a chance to enjoy many parts of France - lucky you! Can I ask a favor? Can you copy and paste your post into the Introduction topic so that more people will see it?

Hi Therese. I'm so glad you've spoken up with French book recommendations. Please add them to the book shelf, and if you especially enjoy a French book, please add it to the "Recommend a French Book" topic under the Readers folder :)

Another good YA read (and I'm not much of a YA person): A Little in Love

Hi Sharon. This looks like a good read. Can you add it to the "Recommend a French Book" topic under the Readers folder?

message 11: by Susan (new)

Susan | 1 comments Hi, I am a lifelong Francophile and an author, and am so happy to have found this group. After an MA in French lit, I wrote guidebooks to Paris, then a deeply researched novel about a Matisse family portrait looted by the Nazis in WW2 France.Portrait of a Woman in White, that was published last year.
I love historic fiction and literary fiction set in France, and am anxious for your suggestions!

Hi Susan, your book sounds intriguing, and am adding it to my TBR list! The second book in my French historical The Bone Angel series, Wolfsangel is set in WW2 Nazi-occupied France.

Laurette Long | 76 comments Hi Linda
I was wondering if there was a section where we could post author interviews (with a Francophile link) and if these would be interesting for members to read ?

I'm not sure, Laurette. It would be a lot of work and I don't have the time right now.

I can sympathise with that, Linda, just a thought.

Jacqueline (frenchvillagejacqui) | 21 comments If anyone is interested in author interview with a Francophile link, I have quite a few on my website here http://www.frenchvillagediaries.com/p...

Linda - please remove link if not appropriate.

No inappropriate at all Jacqueline. Your website is a great source for all books (and other things) related to Francophiles.

Like Leslie, I follow you on Facebook and have had the pleasure of discovering new books via your blogs - as well as the honour of receiving a review!

Bonjour tout le monde,
Taking up on Reggia's suggestion, any other takers for this? If so, we could start a separate topic for it.
Santé, Andrew

Bonjour tout le monde,
Okay, we have a handful of us to start with, so I'll start a new topic for a shared group read, and we can go from there.

There is now a topic under Readers called "Group Read Autumn 2016".

Is there a link to "Group Read Autumn 2016". Sorry, I cannot seem to find it.

Thank you.

Reggia | 10 comments Very interesting site, Lisa, thanks for sharing. :-)

Still, I am looking for discussion on just those, that is, those very types of books.

Guy Hibbert (guythomashibbert) | 3 comments Hello all

I'm a Francophile, travel journalist writing about France, keen reader of French literature and more recently an author of short stories set in Paris. This group must be the right place for me :-)

I would be delighted to participate or contribute in any way that will make this group more active.

Bonjour, we were most active a couple of years ago when Book Giveaways were regularly on offer. You could try to set this up again, although it was no doubt a lot of work for the moderator.

message 33: by Lynaia (new)

Lynaia | 22 comments The big thing this group needs is someone willing to be the moderator. Someone to set up polls for nominating and voting on books for group reads, set up topics for group reads, get conversations started. Unfortunately, whenever we have had a moderator, they haven't lasted overly long.

message 34: by Guy (new)

Guy Hibbert (guythomashibbert) | 3 comments Is there a document somewhere on Goodreads which outlines the role of the moderator?

message 35: by Lynaia (new)

Lynaia | 22 comments No clue.
