I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who uses that trick! Arizona summers are so hot. It's rare to have a day that's below 100F, so I know how you feel Tati

I lived in York for a year, and I absolutely loved it.Granted, the winter I spent there was pretty mild (it didn't get too cold and didn't snow a lot). People always complain about the rain, but I don't remember it raining that much. Again, I'm used to tropical storms, which happen almost every day for a couple of months and, by the end, it's even hotter and more humid than it was before, so the English rain was actually nice. It's more constant and lighter. Though, when it gets hot, it gets hot. There is no air conditioning in stores, and houses retain too much heat (at least my building did)

36 degrees and about minus 8 degrees are the highest and lowest you're likely to see over here.

Yeah, pretty much what Sarah said.As I've said, my winter there was pretty mild, so I think the lowest we got was -3 °C, and the highest was around 30°C
I can't imagine moving out of state, I can't imagine moving to the northern part of my state California, much less out of country :-)
That's great! If -8 is a extreme than that absolutely wonderful! I absolutely hate the cold so that's perfect for me as it's rarely gets down to that.
2 winters ago, we had a crazy cold front go thru. it was -25 with the wind chill. the whole state was on lock down because you would get frostbite in under 5mins if you weren't protected well.
What is the cost of living in England? The other day I was on the phone with the Verizon guy in Alabama and he told me gas was only$1.76 while it is$2.89 in Southern California, that is actually a very big difference. I was actually surprised!

It was 13 degrees here yesterday which is really, really mild for december in england!

I miss that, we really do have very expensive gas in California, at least it's cheaper than Hawaii, LOL!
I see that Brooke, Connie, and Rachel are on the same team for January's challenge. I'm sure you ladies will have super fun.
I have fun with every team im in! This group is filled with such lovely people it's hard not too, me and Brooke seem to be pretty good at friendly competition and Rachel is an insane reader! I don't know a lot about my other team mates yet ^.^ What team are you Aly?
@Aly Naw, you're too sweet! I'll be eating dust with Brooke and Connie in my team. They gobble up books like they're nothing. @Connie "Insane"? You're too kind! I read like nothing compared to you.
Aly wrote: "You ladies are going to dominate.. I just know it :)"You'll do great too Aly :D everyone has different paces and live different lives. Some days i legit ignore everything and everyone to read, some people can't do that, so don't compare yourself to anyone, ever :D Good luck to everyone :D
Also, keep in mind they really tried to keep the teams balanced, so there are very strong readers on all the teams, just because these girls went crazy this past month, doesn't mean there's not some pretty crazy readers on a lot of the other teams :-)
Looking at the teams, there are winners from almost every month on almost every team, so it should be a very interesting and fun competition!
I wasn't saying that there weren't any strong readers on the other teams.. I was just saying that if they are like they were with this last challenge, they are going to be hard to beat. I wasn't trying to put the rest of the teams or people down. I know there are a lot of good readers in this group.
I didn't take it that way at all, I just didn't want anyone to give up before it even got started, LOL! But you are correct they are going to be hard to beat! But, I have seen very strange things happen in these challenges, so you never know ;-)
I didn't think that you took it that way. I was just clarifying in case someone took it that way. Just wanted to make sure :)

I'm going away for the winter so I'll be mostly on for fun teams for the next three months. I'm looking forward to relaxing and reading! ^-^
I have the entire month off so I'll be (hopefully) dedicating to reading as much as I can! And don't worry, Aly! No offence taken. We're going to have work hard to beat everyone else!
I'm just so competitive, even when I know I'm going to have a slow month and go onto a fun team, I find it hard not to go crazy and pace myself. It's so bad :P
I'm like that as well, but I'm coming out of a bad reading slump and settling into a new job, which is keeping me busy, busy, busy, so I didn't want to commit to a serious team and not deliver

Same. Since I won't have the usual access to my books and I don't know how busy I'll be for the next three months I'm going fun, fun, fun. ^-^
I'll still be obsessive and somewhat competitive though lol. Seems to be part of my personality. >.<
I'm not really a competitive type, but the sign up page said if you'd read 8 books or more throughout the month try the serious team. I'll read 8 easy so I thought why not?
I've never tried a Fun team but I might. I like the Serious team but they can really mess with you if you have a competitive nature. It helps because you get a lot of reading done, but it can also take the fun out of a book when you're rushing to finish it.
My biggest issue with the serious team is the members that either vanish or don't deliver the 8 books they should (I know, life happens, but I still get a little peeved)
Tati wrote: "My biggest issue with the serious team is the members that either vanish or don't deliver the 8 books they should (I know, life happens, but I still get a little peeved)"Yeah, that sucks. I mean, why go for serious if you're not even gonna participate or just gonna post two reviews. It ruins the teams chances for winning. In fact, I dislike the ones who only post two or four reviews more because they're still part of the team so you can't adjust the points either.
I just wanted to clarify myself... I just didn't want anyone to take what I said the wrong way. That totally is not like me! I'm one of the nicest people that you will ever meet :)
