Ann from SC,Glad you like Anna Karenine. I just read this last year and really loved it. Tolstoy has such sympathy for people.
Just started The Virgin in the Garden A Novel.Heard different things about it, so I'm excited to see if it adds up
Susanna wrote: "Going to start Mitchell's Cloud Atlas sometime today."I'm reading that at the moment. Really enjoying it.
I just finished turn of the screw and I just started Gulliver's travels by Jonathan swift, so far so good.

I've just met Frobisher, so far I'm enjoying it too. :)
...there's only so much a vampire does, and he does it over and over again.Thanks. That made me smile.
I am half done with Nightwood by Djuna Barnes. I don't like it at all with its excessive descriptions of everything and nonsensical behaviors of its characters.
I just started 'To the Lighthouse' - so far a good book, but it sure does demand concentration to keep up with it.
Just starting Go Tell It on the Mountain. Trying to finish making the lit. selections for my 16 yo daughter's school year, but I already have a feeling this won't be one of them.
Though I have not finished "On Beauty", I started Sinclair's "The Jungle" today. This is such a tragic story I only hope I will be able to finish it. I've put it off for a long time for that reason...
I just started "The Blind Assassin". Its' not bad so far, but I'm hoping the sci-fi part will pick up soon.
Currently reading John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. So far it's quite good, a bit depressing, but good and so well-written.
Just started in earnest on Alan Hollinghurst's 'The Line of Beauty', which seems to leave a lot out and I'm having trouble engaging with the sketchy characters. Anyone else read it? I haven't been able to read much Salman Rushdie since 'Midnight's Children', which I thought was amazingly good. Foucault's Pendulum I just couldn't get into- too convoluted, whereas Name of the Rose is one of the best books I've ever read. Hesse's Glass Bead Game I thought was a masterpiece. Murakami's Windup Bird Chronicle was truly amazing and rather hallucinatory at times. So there's a bit of feedback for others!
Kasey wrote: "I grabbed Everything is Illuminated from the library this week, and so far want to reach in the book and shove everyone. I'm on page 45 and not loving it. Someone tell me it gets better?"I thought it was a total wank and very self-indulgent- silly cult book as far as I'm concerned- I finished it- looked back through it and then threw it out!
Just started Marquez's Love in the Time of Cholera. His writing style is so elegant and poetic, that one loses himself in the varied flavors of historical fiction. Can't wait to finish.
Amanda wrote: "I just started Middlemarch, too...she's like a really intellectual Jane Austen. And more sarcastic. I like it."If you love Middlemarch, then I suggest reading Vanity Fair. Much biting satirical comment at that society.
Just starting a re-read of Little Women. I couldn't get my hands on a copy of Middlemarch for now, so I am going to miss the group read this time.
Ann from S.C. wrote: "I'm going to start ATLAS SHRUGGED by Ayn Rand. Is it on the list? I can't seem to find it."It's not on the list...at least not the 2006 list. It's a little hard to get through at some points but worth the effort to finish. I'd love to hear what you think when you're done or even along the way.
Cindy wrote: "Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis. I'm already in hysterics at page 15."That's good to hear - I just picked this book up at my local library as I was looking for a quick, fun read for this weekend.
Ann - I don't think it is on the list, but it should be. Both Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead are great books!
