I feel for you!!!! Thank you for sharing your life with us.
I can understand a little bit about loss and pain. Hubby is my second Hubby. When I was married to my first husband we had and lost 3 babies from the time I was 18 years old to 22 yrs old (be 57 in Oct.).
Back in August 2004 My Hubby I am married and been married to now for 17 years this coming October and been together 18 yearslost his dad. Then in August of 2007 I lost my mom.
You are right pain don't go away but with God's help it lessens and becomes bearable as the years go by.

Oh ladies, so sorry for the loss you have to been through. Life certainly isn't predictable but we coup and live as best as we can. I always find comfort in books and life gets hard.
I'm slowly reading 1942: O Brasil e sua guerra quase desconhecida, a non fiction book about WW2 wrote by a brazilian author. And I'm listening to The Shadow Rising. Both will take me some time to finish.I'll see which other short book I can start now.

Hooray!
Hooray!
:D
Finished
Succubus Blues
for our goal. You were right Eldarwen, it is a good book! Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed it and will continue the series (maybe sooner than later if we get more of those goals...lol)
NEW GOAL
Read a book with a pet bird

NEW GOAL
For the new goal I'm thinking Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone with Hedwig? (read by Lucy 18 Aug)
--edit-- Yep, we haven't used that book for a goal yet so I'm using it for the goal :)

I have "there is a method in his madness" in Dracula. I'm going to check if that is acceptable

I'd say that would be acceptable since both phrases have the same meaning - so here's hoping it'll be accepted :-)

I think so too Eldarwen. **fingers crossed**
I have to re-read it for a RL bookclub and I got the audio for free through adiobooksync this year so the timing couldn't be better really

Good timing indeed! And great that you've got the audio as well. It'll make a quick read even quicker. :-)
Good Morning all!Just want to let you know I will be on vacation beginning tomorrow for a week. Reception up the mountains is spotty sometimes so I will check in when I can. I really hope to have Across the Universe done before I leave but if I don't I promise to finish it before I begin any other book lol
I plan on bringing the following books on vacation with me:
Crown of Midnight
Romeo Redeemed
Stardust
Hopefully I'll get most of them read.

Happy Holiday! :-)
Ah, Crown of Midnight is a good one. Sure you don't want to take the next one with you as well? ;-)
Stardust is one of those books I've been meaning to pick up for ages but still haven't read. I love the movie though (and its soundtrack ^-^).

I have the third one on my Nook so I will be taking it with me ;) I'm trying to be good and read Romeo Redeemed before ( I need them both for other challenges that end this month) but I don't know if I will be able to!I have only read one other Neil Gaiman book - The Ocean at the End of the Lane I really enjoyed it and have been meaning to pick up some of his other writing. I'll let you know how it is.
Congrats to everybody for houses and books read!I've finished Vision in Silver, which it turns out was published in March 2015. It's not my usual genre, but I really like this series. (Also, note to self, these books have "chamomile" puppy treats.)
I also finished Earthly Delights, which had "radishes" in it. "Opening the oven to see if a cake is rising is like pulling up radishes to see if they are growing." location 3261
It has a quote I love that goes with our discussion of finding more time to read. Corinna and Daniel go to a club where a death thrash metal band is blaring out lyrics about Andre Norton & Frank Herbert. Their friend says, "They combine education with heavy metal. In concert they throw cheap editions of the books at the audience. Their motto is 'the faster you go deaf, the more time you have to read.'" lol

Both my daughter and daughter-in-law have lost babies. It's a special kind of pain, and one of the unfairnesses of life that I still struggle with, in part because I volunteer with foster kids. Why some people can have them and others can't... But as you show, life goes on and it can still be good.
In my job I deal with people who aren't at their best, and I always try to remember that you can't look at someone and know their story. It makes it easier to "Judge not". :)
I'm sorry to hear of everyone's loss. I believe though, that the struggles and pain we endure make us the strong people we are today.
'the faster you go deaf, the more time you have to read.'
I like that quote!! ;-)
Thanks, Melissa! I'm curious hehe. And fingers crossed then that you'll manage to stay away from "Heir of Fire" until the Romeo book is done ;-)
Yay, Kathryn! I'm officially off work now as well for 2 weeks *squeeeaaaal*

Our new goal is "Read a book with the main genre (listed on the first page on GR) as Spiritual".
I'll see if we have something like that already. I think we do, but not sure.

Hey Sarah! Are you up for finishing The Alchemist by any chance? It's main page genre Spirituality, which works for "spiritual".
If not, no worries, then we'll find us a different book for that goal :-)

If there's nothing in our read books, I should finish Heartless today which has werewolves, vampires, and zombie porcupines.
A ghost technically counts as a mythical creature, so we still have that book as an option.. which one was it.. Sapphire Blue?

That one would definitely fit the bill!
And lol! I forgot about the zombie porcupines! ;-)

You're probably right. I haven't actually checked the Varro spreadsheet before thinking out loud... oops ^-^
Gosh, yes, it does! I need to read that last book.. I really do.. ;-) I miss the craziness of that series and Alexia's sarcasm.

Juliana, I finished one this morning that had ghosts and werewolves. Are those considered mythical? I can't add the link on my phone, but it was The Summoning.

** New Goal **Read a book that is in the Amazon 2004 bestsellers (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/...)
I'm late for a meeting so I can't check if any of our books fits. If you ladies find some post here so Karen or I can update it later.
:)
Yuck that list is slim pickings. Everything I would want to read, I've already read. And probably at least 50% is either self-help, diet or children's picture books.
Hmm, unless I missed something, none of our books fit that goal so far. I have a couple lying around that could work:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
One Hundred Years of Solitude
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Eurgh, yes, there are so many books on those lists that aren't actual books, and by that I mean novels, that it isn't always easy to find something.

If nobody find a easier one I can read First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently, I already have it here at home.

Yep, I can finish The Alchemist! I'm finally getting near the end of Pure and still have my head in that world, so I'll pick it up again tomorrow when I should be finished with Pure.
I have to pick shorter books...

That is a tough one. I have Life of Pi on my Nook I can read if absolutely necessary. It won't be for a few days at least though.
Sarah wrote: "Eldarwen wrote: "Hey Sarah! Are you up for finishing The Alchemist by any chance? It's main page genre Spirituality, which works for "spiritual".If not, no worries, then we'll find us ..."
That's why I usually don't read more than one book at a time lol I get lost in certain worlds and have trouble pulling myself out of them. :)
Melissa wrote: "Sarah wrote: "Eldarwen wrote: "Hey Sarah! Are you up for finishing The Alchemist by any chance? It's main page genre Spirituality, which works for "spiritual".If not, no worries, then ..."
Ha ha yes it can be a problem! I usually have several on the go, but in different formats and genres. It's much easier to pick up and put down a non-fiction book. I have no problem with (frequently) abandoning 1776, which I'm also listening to at the moment.
It's when the momentum has built up near the end of a (fiction) book that it gets hard to switch to a different "book universe" as such.

Just throwing this out there, but if none of us can find anything that we want to read on that list, and it looks like the ones that are on the list are not going to be quick reads--do we want to use one of our boons? Did we get another one this round? or do we still just have the one from the first round?
