There were a lot of books I would have read on that list.

Same here. Would give me motivation to read book 2 of the mistborn series for example! All good, we may end up with a similar goal again soon ;)
Funny I made up a whole bunch of new goals today and there are almost 450 now! Hopefully will keep the new open goals a bit diverse

So glad we don't have to hunt for a new book though haha.

Yay, Ashley! Glad to hear you're enjoying the book! And lol, I'll make a note about the asparagus! (Karen, can I venture a guess and say that was your idea for a goal? ;-))

Ah Mistborn.. been meaning to pick that one up for ages. I can't even remember when I bought the boxset but I still haven't read the first one. And I wanted to participate in the BOTM here but completely zapped it.

message 154: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments oh nice - new goals!

I think from what I have seen they have been pretty diverse. I saw one that was - book with 51-60 chapters and I've been saving Dreams of Gods & Monsters reading it here and there in case we get that goal. (59 chapters) lol

I have to keep reading Across the Universe for some reason I can't get into it. I think it is because I have other books on my mind lol.

Ah that's a shame that you can't get into the book, Melissa! Maybe it'll get better at some point?
But other books really can be so very distracting hehe.

I'm sure it will - I just have to focus on it. :)

Yes they can! Sometimes I feel that if I'm reading more than one book at a time I get so confused between the two which is why I don't normally switch between books.

Teri-K | 4 comments I finished reading Thrush Green by Miss Read , and also uploaded my first book cover to GR. I love the cover of this book and couldn't find it anywhere, so I had to scan it, thus it's a bit wonky. But it's fun to see on GR till someone comes along and does a better job.

ETA - Doesn't fit a current goal.

Teri-K | 4 comments Melissa wrote: "hahaha :)

Paper Towns is #103!"

Congrats Melissa on being clairvoyant. I almost started a "G" book last night, as I need one for another challenge, but I decided not to. Fortunately when the goal came up here today somebody else had it. :)

message 160: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2151 comments I finished

Open Season (Joe Pickett, #1) by C.J. Box

Doesn't fit any goals at the moment. Not sure if there's anything worth highlighting (that's not already obvious) for future goals - a few animals get mentioned (antelope, elk, etc - but no exotics like giraffe/lion/elephant).

Looks like all our goals are covered so I've started Pure, 448 pages.

message 161: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13784 comments Mod
That's quite a cool cover for "Pure"!
Added all the books to the spreadsheet, so they're read for our next goal streak :-)

Eldarwen | 13784 comments Mod
Nope, goals are all filled for the moment. Hmm... what to read next... Anything you might be in the mood for, genre-wise?

message 163: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Do you like historical fiction? I'm currently reading Secrets of a Charmed Life and it's keeping my interest so far. I'm really enjoying it.

message 164: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13784 comments Mod
How about this then? I'll go through your shelf and post a few picks, maybe that'll help?

Hmmm... that book sounds intriguing Melissa, I might add that to my TBR. Good historical fiction is always nice, even though I don't read it often, though I tend to stay away from second world war for the most part.

message 165: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I love historical fiction but I don't read much of it. Then I find a book I really enjoy and I wonder why I don't!

I also read Orphan Train Which is one of my favorite books.

Kathryn - I read the Hush, Hush books and I liked them.

message 166: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13784 comments Mod
NOS4R2 by Joe Hill Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) by Danielle Paige John Dies at the End (John Dies at the End, #1) by David Wong

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin - it's fat but really good.

There seems to be quite a bit of crime on your shelf - at least from titles and covers, I didn't actually check hehe - so if you do like those, and don't mind them turning a little violent and gory, then I can only recommend Chris Carter. The first book in his Robert Hunter series is called The Crucifix Killer (Robert Hunter, #1) by Chris Carter and that had me hooked from the first chapter onwards. (I'm now on book 6 :-))

Melissa, have you ever read Kate Mosse's Labyrinth (Languedoc, #1) by Kate Mosse ? It's one of the few historical fictions I've really liked. It's been a while since I've read it though so I don't remember all the details but I remember that it was good. It plays in Carcassonne, in France.

Yea - I think it depends on your take on YA. They were a typical YA book but like I said I enjoyed them.

My favorite YA is Embrace - I absolutely love that series.

My favorite paranormal is Darkfever - those books were hands down the best series I've ever read.

No - but I have added it to my TBR shelf. That is right up my alley - Thanks!

Oh gosh, the Fever series is so good!!! Despite the incredibly annoying Mary-Sue-ishness of Mac in the first book. Barrons totally makes up for that and the plot is actually really, really good - in my opinion at least hehe.

I've heard mixed reviews on Hush Hush as well so I'm not quite sure what to make of the series, or if I want to read it or not.

Another really good series is the Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance, starting with Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance .

I agree about the first book! It took me a while to get through it and I owned the second book for months before I read it. Needless to say I think I finished the rest of the series in a week! I reread them in the beginning of the year and I constantly find myself wanting to get back and read them again!

The other book sounds good and your review sealed the deal. It's on my TBR list now :)

Those Kate Mosse books are good, but a little long :o. It is a series of 3, but they are more like companion books so you don't need to read them in order. Audio narration is really good.

Code Name Verity is one of the better YA Historical Fiction I have read for a long time if you want a shorter book!

message 175: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13784 comments Mod
Hooray, another Cassie recruit hehe. That is one of those stories that just develops and progresses constantly. And things always get twisted around. I need to reread that. Maybe I should before the next book comes out in November, hmm... Maaaaybe.

But agreed on the Fever series. I've only read it last year for the first time and I want to read it again. Unfortunately, the first book is currently with a friend, so the rereads are going to have to wait a little ;-)

Great - thanks Karen! I don't mind reading longer books (I also enjoy Outlander series (although as the series went on I enjoyed them less and less) but I have to be in the mood to read a long one. I guess I will have to either wait until our challenge is over or read in between other books :)

I totally agree. I usually reread all of KMM's books every year or two. Love her work and the Fever series especially. Her highlander series is related to this series, but it came first. So if you haven't read that you should. You will get more info about those sexy MacKeltars, to see where Christian came from. That's if you haven't read that series already.

message 181: by Melissa (new)

I have read Iced, and bought Burned but haven't read it yet. Decided to wait until the next book is released, so I won't have to wait so long to get the the next book. I just know I am going to be impatient for the next, so I just decided to wait it out and then I will start over from the beginning again.

By the way if you go to her website or better yet visit the forums you can see how, although the Highlander series is just loosely related, and then only certain books, KMM did some foreshadowing of events that came during the Fever series. Besides none of those heroes will be hard to read about, especially if you are a fan of romance.

She was a sophomore in high school at the time. She has always made her own costumes, so I didn't get to help! Her senior year, last year, she was Miss Spider in James and the Giant Peach.
