Thanks for the suggestions! :D I think I'll go with Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate . At least I've read the first one so that should be better I think. :)

jingles | 291 comments Okay, team, had a change of plans. I had to abandon No Control. Instead I read Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt, which is the second book of the Maiden Lane series.

Here is my review:

NOTORIOUS PLEASUSRES, WEEK 3
Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt
Notorious Pleasures (Maiden Lane, #2) by Elizabeth Hoyt

Read from 02/23/14 - 02/24/14

Brief Review
Beautiful Lady Hero Batten is engaged to the Marquis of Mandeville. True to form though, she falls madly in love with Mandeville's brother, Griffin Reading. As we would expect, Reading is a notorious rake, best known by everyone to have seduced his brother's first wife. What ensues is a lot of angst, some hot business under the covers, in the carriage, against the door, etc. Many things are against Lady Hero and Griffin, and that's what makes the story move along quite nicely.

What I liked: By far the funniest scenario I've encountered in a while happens within the first few pages when Lady Hero stumbles upon Griffin, pants down around his...and carrying on with a married lady of the ton. Very funny indeed. I also really liked Lady Hero and how she handles the obstacles she encounters.

What I didn't like: While I really enjoyed the angst, at times it seemed to also make the story drag a bit. Sometimes there's too much, and I found that to be true here. There was a scene or two that made me cringe, but those are just personal pet peeves of mine, so no harm done.

All in all, I liked this book better than the first book of the series, and I will continue on to book #3.

Review:
The Marquess of Bourne wagered and lost everything in a game of chance. Now 10 years later, he is determined to get his inheritance back and the vengeance he craves. He learns that his estate is the dowry of his childhood friend, Lady Penelope Marbury. Ensuring that her reputation is compromised, she has no choice but to marry him. Ruthless and cold, he is no longer the boy she loved as a child. And so begins the journey from rogue to loving husband.

This was a rather melancholy read, at least for me. Bourne was cold and distant and so full of resentment and anger. He was determined to ruin his nemesis, no matter the cost to others. I didn’t think I would ever like him, but in the end, I did. He’s not a favorite hero, but at least he was redeemed. However, I did like Lady Penelope. Not happy about always having to graciously accept her fate, she took control of it. It was not easy or fun, but filled with loneliness and hurt. But in the end, she got her HEA.

Now the epilogue, that was a great intro into the next story. And I’m looking forward to it. I’m thinking it will have more humor and less angst. I like funny, funny is good. Hope I’m right!

Week 3: Space 26

Erased (Altered, #2) by Jennifer Rush by Jennifer Rush

Finished:Feb 26,14
Rating: 5 stars

Review:
I absolutely devoured this book! This book was leaps and bounds better then the first book and I gave Book 1 a 5 star rating as well. There was so much action and adventure in this book that I actually think I had heart palpitations just reading it. What started out in Altered was taken to a whole new level in Erased. Sam, Cas, Nick and Anna are probably 4 of the best characters that I have read so far this year and all the life and death situations they have to go through has only made them even more kick ass.

Jennifer Rush has created a fantastic fast paced roller coaster ride of a world in her Altered series and it will be a series I know will be be able to read again and again and never get bored with. 2015 is way to long to have to wait for book 3 but wait I shall cause I know it will be worth it :)

The Sins of the Father (The Clifton Chronicles, #2) by Jeffrey Archer
Date finished: 2/27/14
Rating: ★★★★

Review: Set during 1939-1942, The second installment of the Clifton Chronicles finds our hero, Harry Clifton, after faking his own death, arrested in the U.S. for a crime he didn't commit. He navigates his way through the prison system and survives by his wits. Meanwhile, his friend Giles Barrington joins the military and fights in WWII; the woman he loves sets out to prove Harry is alive, while Harry's mother decides between three suitors and finally learns how to read (how she became a restaurant manager without knowing how to read is a bit puzzling). Once again, the author provides twists and turns and a cliffhanger ending. The book is action-packed and fast-moving. I will definitely read book 3 to see what happens next.

Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate (Fallen #2) by Lauren Kate

I have to say I liked the first book more than this second one. I didn't like Luce very much on the first book and in Torment, she just got more and more annoying and immature. She was weak and very predictable. Her stubbornness isn't the type you'd come to adore, but the type you'd hate in a character. She intentionally ignored every single warning the people who obviously knew more than she did and kept putting herself in danger without thinking about the consequences it might have to the people around her. I do understand that maybe if someone would have just given her the facts straight on then maybe she wouldn't have been such a crazy, selfish, self-destructive b**tch, but I think it would have just made things worse knowing how immature she was.

Although, I still loved the story and where it was going so I will read the next book in the series. It was just a bit disappointing how Luce was turning out to be as a character. It might just be me not liking the type of person she was in the book, but it definitely affected my feelings toward the book.

I'm going to make this really short because I started The Undead Pool and I don't want to stop, lol.

I'm loving this series so far. In this installment we meet Sebastian Wroth and Kaderin The Cold Hearted. As usual, they are mates but she fights it/him until the end. In this book though, they are competing for a prize that will allow the user to go back in time, twice. She wants it to bring her sisters back. He just wants her and tries to win it for her.

I liked Sebastian. He was sweet, sexy and innocent when it came to women. Of course, he seemed to get over that with her. She was pretty harsh. They don't call her Kaderin The Cold Hearted for nothing, I guess.

Looking forward to the next one!

Brief Review
Maddie Kincaid finds herself in a world of trouble, when she is unexpectedly saddled with illegal drugs. Looking for help, she stumbles upon Luke Callahan, former DEA. Upon the murder of his long time crime fighting partner, Luke resigns from the DEA, so things seem a little crazy when gorgeous red head, Maddie comes along looking for said partner.

What I liked: Almost nothing! The only thing that I can say I liked was the poor attempt at humor.

What I didn't like: Almost everything! To me this book has very little redeeming qualities. I did not like either of the main characters. Maddie seemed unintelligent, and Luke was very uninformed for a DEA agent.

While the plot takes many twists and turns, the story is so over the top in craziness as to make it completely ridiculous. This is one of those books I felt was a complete waste of time.

Over all, a bad read for me. I will not be moving on to book two.

Morality for Beautiful Girls (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #3) by Alexander McCall Smith
Finished 3/2/14
★★★★

Review: The third installment of this series finds Mma Ramotswe merging her agency into the building of her fiancé's car repair shop, giving her assistant a promotion to Assistant Manager, helping her fiancé manage his depression, and trying to discover who is trying to poison the brother of an important government official. I really love Mma Ramotswe's character. She has great problem-solving skills and a unique way of dealing with people (although, I felt that her telling everyone about her fiancé's depression was not really the right thing to do!). The author has a great way with dialogue that lets the reader "hear" the voices. Reading these books is like eating comfort food.

Week 4: Space 31

Priceless (Rylee Adamson, #1) by Shannon Mayer by Shannon Mayer

Finished: March 6,14
Rating 4 stars

Review:
Rylee Adamson is a tracker, a finder of lost children and on the FBI's most wanted list for a murder she didn't commit. So when Rylee is hired to find a missing child and her not so favorite FBI Special Agent O'Shea is dogging her every step she's not surprised when she lands her self in a lot more trouble then she first expects.

I really enjoyed this first book to the Rylee Adamson series. There is plenty of action and supernatural high jinx to keep an paranormal/Urban fantasy buff interested and the chemistry between Rylee and O'Shea is off the charts hot. I will definitely be reading book two very soon.

The Goddess Test (Goddess Test, #1) by Aimee Carter (Goddess Test #1) by Aimee Carter

Loved the concept of how the Greek mythology was portrayed in this book. The plot was well done as well. Although there wasn't anything special about the writing, there wasn't anything wrong with it either. It just didn't stand out to me, nor was it distracting or annoying in any way.

I also liked the characters a lot, especially Henry. Oh my god! His story was so heartbreaking. I would never have pictured Hades being a character like Henry. It was refreshing indeed. Kate was an okay character. There were times when I didn't like her very much, but most of the time I actually liked her.

The Goddess Test was definitely different and refreshing. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I recommend reading this series if you're looking for a change in the mythology genre.

Review: Precious Romatswe continues to balance her work life running her agency, and her home life fostering two children and wondering when she and Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni will set a wedding date. Meanwhile, Mma Makutsi, the assistant detective, opens a typing school and finds a bit of romance. I really enjoy the secondary characters in this series. Mma Makutsi surprised me with her practical attitude toward dating. I wish more would have happened with Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni..it seemed he was merely a background character in this installment. The garage apprentices are always entertaining. Most of all, the author's love for Botswana and its people is apparent in the writing.

Brief Review
Navy Seal Gabe Renault has just returned home after being thought dead for more than a year. Struggling to regain his memory, he discovers he wasn't the husband and father he should have been. His return from the dead also means there are those out there that want him gone forever. As Gabe works on finding out who is out to get him and to rebuild a life with his wife and child, he discovers a side of his former self he doesn't quite like.

What I liked: I liked the story plot, and loved the daughter, Mallory.

What I didn't like: I did not like Helen at all. She came across as totally self-centered and selfish. While I liked the story, it tended to drag in places.

Overall, it was a good read and I will continue on to book #2 of the series.

Finished: March 13th
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review:
Why! Oh Why, did I wait so long to read this? Nalini Singh is fast becoming my favorite PNR author. I love her writing style. It's so descriptive, sensual and captivating.

I love this series. Even more than her Psy-Changeling series, at least for now. As weird as it sounds, it's not the sexual tone or even the romance that has me hooked. It's the imaginative world she has created and her lyrical writing. She brings it all to life using all 5 senses. Especially smell. Hunter-born track through scent after all.

"A low purr that stroked her senses with an intimacy as lush as the sinuous scent of midnight roses."

I've been looking forward to Dmitri's book since book one. He's lethal, sexy and a predator barely hanging on to his humanity. I do so love the bad boys. Captured, tormented and used for 2 months by vampires, Honor is broken. Forced to work with the very thing she fears, she starts to take her life back. Two broken souls that heal each other. It wasn't easy and at times it was cruel, but in the end it was beautiful.

I don't think I'll be waiting so long to read the next one!

Finished: March 13,14
Rating: 4 stars

Review:
This is going to be a short and sweet review cause I am dying sick with the flu and didn't know when I would be able to get back to normal.

Arcadia Bell has a secret, a secret she will do anything to keep. You see Arcadia is a magician and a renegade at that but that not her biggest secret. Her parents are two occultists and alleged murderers who planned their own deaths along with her's and if the wrong people were to find out everything Arcadia worked for will come undone.

This is a great start to a new series for me. There was lots of action and adventure and I thought Arcadia's world was very well constructed. I can't wait to read more in this series.
