Maria | 206 comments Disappearing Earth Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips Very good so far as long as I don’t concentrate too hard on the unfamiliar Russian names!

I've never read any of this old favorites so this is going to be interesting!"

What did you think of it, Carlene? It is one of my favourite classics. So dark and full of angst. One of the few books I reread.

Kirsten McKenzie (kirstenmckenzieauthor) | 278 comments I've just finished The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (The Hunger Games, #0) by Suzanne Collins and have started One Single Thing (Hunter Grant, #2) by Tina Clough by New Zealand author Tina Clough - her sequel to The Chinese Proverb by Tina Clough . I'm doing well with my reading challenge, having read 10/18 books by female authors, but only 7/18 books by New Zealand authors, so it has to be a Kiwi book next!

What ..."

There are certain parts that I've read that I get very lost in, I think it comes from the word choice and format or style of writing at that time that maybe confuses me? So it's been a slow read, I've returned it because I wanted to focus on the book pool but will probably pick it up later.

Kirsten McKenzie (kirstenmckenzieauthor) | 278 comments Now I'm reading East of Hounslow (Jay Qasim, Book 1) by Khurrum Rahman . I lived in Hounslow for a year back in the 90s, so this seemed like a good fit!

Kirsten McKenzie (kirstenmckenzieauthor) | 278 comments After finishing East of Hounslow (Jay Qasim, #1) by Khurrum Rahman , I've started reading the second book in the series Homegrown Hero (Jay Qasim #2) by Khurrum Rahman . The author has a humorous style which makes reading about radical Islamists, from the protagonist's Muslim point of view, real and absorbing. A great crime series.

Maria | 206 comments Heart of Iron Heart of Iron (Heart of Iron, #1) by Ashley Poston which is typical YA. Predictable plot, no depth to the characters... but an enjoyable enough read.

Also Double-edged Sword The Simonne Butler Story by Simonne Butler Double-edged Sword: The Simonne Butler Story which is harrowing in parts.

Kirsten McKenzie (kirstenmckenzieauthor) | 278 comments I'm a third of the way through The Encircling Sea (Vindolanda #2) by Adrian Goldsworthy , the second book in the series. Having worked at the Roman Fort of Vindolanda for the past four years, I love being able to "live" the Roman history through the books of Adrian Goldsworthy.

Not sure that it's doing a good job of grabbing my attention yet. I will persevere a little longer.
