Jimmy's brother Jack is getting married and he is going on tour to sing his new song that he wrote with his sweetheart Charlotte, but when the song really takes off he has to choose between being what might be his big break or his family,

This story was sweet and there was definitely potential for me to completely love but the set up of the story felt a bit off for me. Not having read book one about Jack and Kara, it felt a little abrupt how the characters all interacted without having any backstory to explain certain events that happened previously.

I kind of missed the falling in love part for the MCs. I liked both Jimmy and Charlotte, they were both so supportive, affectionate and in love with each other, I couldn’t help it.

My first read of the season. Enjoyed the plot and characters though it was predictable. Has Hallmark vibe if this is what you like to read.

I had the opportunity of reading this heartwarming, lyrical, and beautiful book years ago and was delighted to find new content and cover for THE PERFECT LOVE SONG, by the talented NYT bestselling author, storyteller, and one of my favorites—Patti Callahan Henry.

The Perfect Love Song, by Patti Callahan Henry, was first released in 2010 and is now rereleased with additional content. This is the story of finding a perfect love represented by the song written spontaneously by Unknown Souls guitarist Jimmy Sullivan and his lady love Charlotte Carrington. When the group performs the song at the Holiday Jingle Jam, the song takes on a new life, propelling jimmy away from his brother Jack and other band members and away from Charlotte. Although Jimmy continues ...more

A southern story that really takes you places and gives you a taste of the reason for the season.

I had trouble with the point of view. It's also very sweet (like southern tea) with lots of Irish and Christmas magic.

Gawd, I have diabetes now, because this was so sickeningly sweet. I like romance, I like a good story, but this was so cliched and saccharine, it was like the Hallmark Channel hired someone to write a novel. Let me give you an example of the writing style;
"Families had never been a safe place for Jimmy and he believed they never would be, like growing up in a war-torn country and then believing that all lands are the same. But here he was beginning to relax into the rhythm of a new place where

Thanks to the publisher, via Netgalley, for an advance e-galley for honest review.

Things to know about this story: it's a republished story originally from 2010, and it features characters from Henry's book When Light Breaks (I do think that if you haven't read that book, this story won't be as meaningful). I'll echo other reviews that liken this to a Hallmark Christmas movie- it's very sweet and sentimental, and because of that will either really appeal to readers or not.

This story is destined to be a Hallmark Christmas movie. The story is a bit predictable but most Christmas stories are. I still enjoyed the characters and the plot.

A lovely novella, well written and entertaining. I liked the cast of characters, the setting and the plot.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I just finished The Perfect Love Song: A Holiday Story by Patti Callahan Henry. It is different from her usual setting of the Lowcountry and the writing didn't flow for me the way it usually does. However, it was a sweet holiday story.

Jimmy Sullivan and his brother Jack are country singers and trying to make it in the music industry. One night at a concert, Jimmy sings a song that he wrote for Charlotte Carrington, his hometown sweetheart in South Carolina, and it is heard by famous country

I started this book in November and felt very disconnected from the point-of-view so I put it back on the shelves to read later. I'm glad that I finally picked it up as it was an enjoyable light Christmas read. The story is very predictable once again and I absolutely knew how it was all going to end, but that was okay with me once I accepted this book for what it was. I liked the female characters in the book a lot, and I even enjoyed Jimmy's rise to fame and how singers are manipulated by ...more

Having finished this last night, I am now chugging lemon water in an attempt to rid myself of the saccharine taste left by Patti Callahan Henry's attempt at holiday cheer. An homage to the country-western triad of melancholia, self-doubt and a checkered past, the intended themes of true love and divine forgiveness are lost in an underdeveloped plot. Trite archetypes, flat dialogue and a baffling (mostly) third-person narrative do absolutely nothing to help Song's cause. The one bright spot for ...more

The story of a ballad that changed the Unknown Souls band members lives began oh an early and dusky Thanksgiving morning as the band’s battered tour bus pulled into Seaboro, S. C. . It was just another day, just another road trip for the band members. But this port if call was an exception for Jack and Jimmy. The brothers arrived in their childhood town not for a concert, but to see their loves. Jimmy opened the bus window and inhaled the aroma of childhood, then closed his eyes to all the good ...more

I love a good, sweet Christmas romance story so when I read this very Hallmark movie sounding book description and saw that it was not only a holiday story, but one with connections to Ireland, I was excited to check it out! Despite my initial enthusiasm, I must admit it took me a little bit to get into this story. First of all, the point of view was different than any I had read in the past--- it read much like a narrator telling the story whom already knew the outcome, especially very early ...more

"The Perfect Love Song" by Patti Callahan Henry

My Rationalization:

Good Christmas story which extended into a wedding that was held in Ireland and bringing in the story about the 'Claddagh Ring.' I loved how this author was able to bring in lots of the traditions of Ireland in this lyrical tribute to love. It was interesting seeing these two brothers [Jimmy & Jack] who
*Edited to add this info...while this isn’t listed as a series, I just looked through the author’s book list and found When the Light Ends. That book tells Jack and Kara’s story before this book. No wonder this felt like a series.

A really quick read for me.

I absolutely adored "Becoming Mrs. Lewis", so was excited to read this holiday novella by Patti Callahan Henry. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. For one thing, I felt like the book began in the middle of a story that I didn't know and I did come to find out that this is a sequel of sorts to "When Light Breaks" which I have not read.

Two of the characters, childhood sweethearts Jack and Kara, are to be married on Christmas Day in a Catholic church in Ireland. Nowhere in the story is there a

The Perfect Love Song was a sweet, enduring story featuring the importance of family, following your dreams and most of all being true to yourself and those you love. I enjoyed this feel good romance novel. Immediately thrust into the spotlight, solo, Jimmy is off on a national tour featuring his new song. This story follows the ...more

A band on the road with their loved ones left home to hold down the fort is a story that I have heard. This is different because while most of the band goes home to get ready to celebrate Christmas and an upcoming wedding, Jimmy chooses to go on his own and find his own way. The journey opens his eyes to what is important and what he needs to do to make himself happy.

I love the band. They are more than a band; they are family who love each other entirely. They will do anything they can to help

At first, I wasn't sure what to think of this story, but I am so glad that I kept on reading it. This is story includes a myth, two lost and found loves, hope and redemption. It is about finding the one you love and then losing them for awhile and then finding them again. It is about not losing hope or faith. It is about the strength of family and friends that are family and about strangers that go above and beyond. It is about how one woman's story of love filled with mythology from her home in ...more

I read a lot of different kinds of stories, and have never till now find one I just couldn't finish. This book was hard to get into, hard to keep reading, and I stopped at about 25 %. It was like watching a soap opera on TV.
I don't like writing bad reviews for books, and try really hard to finish any ARC sent to me. This was just too much drama and nothing else. The brothers had a hard time as children, with a mean father, which there mother leaves.

Jimmy and Jack have a band and travel the country sharing their love of music. When Jimmy and his friend Charlotte write a love song, it rockets Jimmy and Jack to stardom. It also takes him away from his friends and family, including Charlotte. She has come to be more than a friend. This is not something Jimmy ever expected.Charlotte and Jimmy really click well together. They each have a love of music. Plus, Charlotte loves to write poetry. This was one of the worst books I have ever read. I picked up this book from my mom's bookshelf because I have enjoyed some of Patti Callahan Henry's other books. The characters are one-dimensional, annoying, and oblivious. The dialogue stilted and juvenile.

What I really don't get about the novel is that the drama essentially revolves around a couple being apart for a month. One month. If they can't get through that, they should be reevaluating their relationship.

The only interesting thing
The Perfect Love Song by Patti Callahan Henry has the feel of a Hallmark Christmas movie with a miracle or two and a trip to Ireland thrown in. I liked both of the main characters and thought their romance was very sweet. I also liked the secondary characters, which are featured in When Light Breaks. While I have not read their story, I didn’t feel lost at all while reading this one.

My favorite part of this story was towards the end where Jimmy comes to a realization that changes the path he is

I loved the overall idea of this one, but it took me a bit to get into it. I didn't "click" with the characters or the dialogue. The story as a whole is sweet and magical for the holidays without being so sugary you gag. It touches on themes of home, heartache, belonging, and forgiveness...following your dreams, being true to yourself, honouring commitments... but I didn't love it. It was "okay" - a way to pass the time and I didn't dislike it - but it doesn't make me want to gush. It was an ...more

The Perfect Love Song is about following your heart. It tells the story of finding the one person you want to walk through life with. All the ups and downs. It was co-written by Charlotte and Jimmy. When people heard the song, they wanted to change the name and make it something it really wasn't. In the process, Jimmy was loosing sight of what was really important. It wasn't until the past came rushing in, that he knew he had to act or all would be lost. That means getting to Ireland for his ...more

I received an ARC from for an honest review.

This book is a combination of the country music world and the myth of the Claddagh ring. The novel is rich in emotion and description. You may think the story is slow, but it is to be savored. At the end of the book, the author gives us a recipe for the shortbread that we read about. She also gives directions to making garland, also found in the story. I just wish she had come up with the words to The Perfect Love Song.
