True, true. What I end up doing is reading instead of sleeping now and then :) great way to read more. Because I read in the day as well.

message 153: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) I'm stressed too :( I have three books going. And I have to read and review another one before July 1st. Normally that wouldn't be a problem at all, but I don't know, it feels like I have to read all the time and whenever I'm not reading, like now, I feel kind of guilty. The result is that on not reading anything at all. Sigh

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 330 comments I'm getting book depression and stress again. Trying to read too many at once and not the ones I want to read. Sigh. I hate this feeling. Books are SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!

message 155: by Heather (new)

Heather (hersecretsmile) | 290 comments I have been in a slump for a little over two weeks. It's super frustrating because I want to read but every time I pick up a book I get somewhere between 15-50 pages in and then get bored. It's not that any of the books are bad necessarily but my focus is just not there.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 330 comments I hate when we get this way. I'm trying to read 10 at once again and it's getting to me. I want to read certain books and I'm not able to get to them from arcs and library books. Now I'm down and tired of it. I want fun in books again.

I hope you get out of your slumps too Heather :(

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Sorry about your reading slumps Heather and Melissa. Been there and hate it. :( I find the only thing that helps me is finding a book that grabs my attention right away and that I have a hard time putting down. But, that's not always easy to find. I'm sure you'll find your way out, but don't put any pressure on yourselves to read things...reading is about enjoying, relaxing and getting lost in a great story.

I had that happen to me a while ago and it truly sucked. I couldn't read anything for weeks! What worked for me was that I stopped reading for a while. Didn't even try and then started again with some of my old favourites. I'm now reading at least 2-4 books a month so I'm getting back in the swing of things. ^-^

message 161: by Heather (new)

Heather (hersecretsmile) | 290 comments Thanks Melissa, Donna and Bookbuyer! I am just starting to fall out of my slump and hoping it sticks. I have a busy weekend ahead of me so that will be the real test.

Good luck Karen! I hope you overcome your slump.

message 162: by Madison (new)

Madison (ramblingbookreader) I am having a horrible book slump! or a book rut. I read something for maybe a chapter and it doesn't feel like i want to read it nor do i know what i want to read.

message 163: by *b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* (new)

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* | 33 comments MADISON: Im totally in the same boat as you. I havent read properly for months now and ive been forcing myself to read.

I know that i have been trying to start new books, but it never goes past the first few chapters. Nothing wants to stick.

I just try to re-read books I've read and love.

message 164: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) I don't feel like I'm in a reading slump, not really. I just don't feel like reading. I'd much rather do anything else - like puzzles and just sitting with my tablet and wasting time. I know that if I picked up a book, I'd just read it, so it's not like a regular slump. I just don't want to read. I've read 1½ book this month - last month I read 21! So yeah.
Anyone else ever feel like that? :)

message 165: by Alyson (new)

Alyson Stone (alysonserenastone) | 240 comments The last few books free kindle books that I have gotten haven't impressed me. I just stop reading and move on.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments Do you ever get in the mood to just ditch all the books you are reading & start something completely different because you're just not in the mood?? Ugh....I hate that but I'm such a mood reader and I fear that's what's coming! I always go back to the books I ditched later and finished them but this drives me nuts about myself!!!!

That is totally me! I usually have a few books going on at once anyway but sometimes I have to put a book down and read another.

I usually have at least two books going at a time too! I usually binge on one genre for a while and then all of the sudden I decide I'm not in the mood and I will put down the book I'm reading and read something entirely different for a few books and then go back to the book I put down. I don't want to force myself to read something just to read it. I want to enjoy what I'm reading.

message 169: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) I usually don't change genres really. Sometimes I'll change from YA to Adult but otherwise all my books are pretty similar. In the past 6 months I've been doing a lot of challenges so that's dictated a lot of what I've been reading. >.>

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @Bookbuyer I meant that I will usually fantasy binge YA books for a while and then have to change to dystopian or NA romance or historical fiction YA :)

message 172: by Storm (new)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I was feeling the same. Then today I started to read a book I've been meaning to read since I got it at Christmas. SUCH a freaking relief.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @Storm I think I have two problems, binge reading one genre for too long, & wanting to read what others are reading instead of what I want to read! Starting today, I'm going to pick up what I want to read from my shelf, not read something just because others are reading it! I'm still on the Harry Potter read-a-long, which I'm enjoying, but am going to pick up Timebound, a time travel book I've been meaning to read forever!!!

message 176: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments Okay, I'm slumping...I'm reading 3 meh books at the same time and a chunkster that I'm just not feeling. And I just got done reading 2 raunchy books, a romantic suspense and a funny sexy book, and it was too much, so now I'm afraid to read romance unless it's YA, cuz I'm tired of sex...lol.

message 177: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments Okay, I have the weirdest reading problem. I read a book that I didn't realize was erotica and the humorous book that I was listening to at the same time also had some sexy scenes. So now, I'm so done with sex in my books. I'm reading a historical fiction that has the occasional sex scene and a vampire book where she stumbles on a couple having a moment and my book club book's sex scenes aren't very graphic but the husband is a horn dog so he's always thinking about it or acting on it, and I want to stop reading all of them. So my reading slump is finding interesting sexless books.

I'm thinking maybe middle school or murder mystery books. (I don't like cozy mysteries.) I'm even afraid of YA paranormal...sigh. And I'm not usually opposed to a sex scene or two, but it was too much and too graphic overload.

Try: The Thornthwaite Inheritance by Gareth P. Jones No sex in there at all.Or Geek Girl (Geek Girl, #1) by Holly Smale its ya but no sex and not really that much romance.

message 179: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments Thanks Oda, I'll try those. I'm still not wanting much sex in my books. I've read a couple of middle school books and some sci fi. But it seems like every YA I pick up has sex in it. I'm surprised at how much sex is normally in books.

Brigid ✩ | 738 comments I've also been in quite a slump these past couple months. July has been insanely busy for me, but I also have just not had the motivation to read lately. :( Every time I pick up a book I can only pay attention for like five minutes. I think I'm just more tired than usual, and I've been devoting my attention to other things (I've been doing a lot of art recently, for example!). I'm starting to fall behind on my yearly goal which I'm kinda upset about. But hopefully I'll get back on track in August.

Ohmygosh, Brigid... Me too!! Everytime I pick up my Nook, I'm so exhausted, it's all I can do to read more than a few chapters. I HAVE been on vacation for almost 3 weeks and doing a crazy road trip. I just got back tonight and my friend leaves on Saturday so after I sleep all weekend, I hope I can finally read more than a few chapters a day.

The only good thing is that I listened to 4 audiobooks while driving. But they were all rereads of favorite books. I'm 7 books behind right now, :( I've never been more than a couple of books behind before.

I really need to get back that feeling of not being able to put a book down!!
