Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I'm lucky. Haven't had a reading slump in awhile. My problem is always choosing what to read next of my many choices haha. And when I can't choose from novels, there's comics, and when neither of those appeal, I read screenplays.

Pretty much this except replace screenplays with fanfiction. If all else fails a fanfict binge usually does the trick.

I want to find some good fan fic. The only one I've read I really liked was one of the Jame Potter novels. I'd ask for recs, but I imagine it depends more on the readers fandoms than anything else.

Yeah it really does. When it comes to the fandoms it really is anyone's game. One gal's favorite fict might not be someone else's.

Rose, I was going through a slump the other night. I kept changing up what I was reading because I wasn't really feeling any of them. I think I'm out of it now! :)

message 106: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments I didn't do a team challenge, because I don't feel like reading books based on their titles, authors or characters.

Last time I was in a slump, Cress was one of the books that got me out of it!

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @Marla and @Karen, I've been in a slump ever since finishing Confess by Colleen Hoover, which was amazing! I have tried to start Red Queen twice and not made it past page 30. I picked up The Murder Complex tonight and am already on Chapter 4! Going to read Cress & The Murder Complex! Sometimes I think if a book is bringing us down, we need to not force it and try something else! The Murder Complex is very good so far! I also loved Cinder & Scarlet so know I will love Cress!

Harlee | 1583 comments I've been in a reading slump after finishing The Program. it's my first serious one and I had SO much trouble getting into anything for about a week afterwards. I bounced around from book to book and finally think I'm getting out of it. I decided to start rereading Harry Potter so there's no way I can go wrong with that! :)

I hate reading slumps! I was forcing myself to read 50 pages or so from each book, but just couldn't stay with one book. That's how I know it's a slump. But now I'm back to being in the "can barely put the book down" mode. Mucho better!!

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments I just finished The Murder Complex 4 days ago, which was amazing, but ever since then I feel like I have book ADD! Gah! I have started three different books, none of which really grabbed my attention right away. So frustrating! Don't know what I want to read. I'm currently in the beginnings of Jackaby & Talon. I think I will push through various few more chapters of each & then if still not interested pick up something completely new.

I've been doing the same thing for the past week, Rose. I need a book that will knock my socks off!

I'm listening to The Moon Dwellers (The Dwellers, #1) by David Estes which IS knocking my socks off but an audio is slow going for me because I don't get much time to listen. I keep wanting to grab my book and read it, but I really want to experience the audio so haven't yet. Not that I've had lots of reading time this week anyway. ;)

message 112: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments If one book is going slow, I read other books with it something I know I will love and kind of pace myself with the slow book. And I try to listen to books that I think will be slow.

message 113: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments I've been in a slump for almost 3 months. Either I'm choosing the wrong books, or I am becoming increasingly analytic and critical in my reading. And I was a relatively harsh reviewer to begin with.
Trying to break out of the slump now, but I haven't really given 5 stars to a book in a very long time.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @Daniel I'm still in a complete reading slump aside from The Murder Complex, which I loved which I recently read! I've DNF'd four books this year, two in the last month...ugh! I've decided that I'm going to finish two series I have books on my shelf for which include Cress, the last in The Lunar Chronicles and Never Fade & In The Afterlight from TDM. If that fails I'm going to finish my Harry Potter series....don't know what else to do, never been in a slump this bad :(

message 115: by Daniel (last edited May 21, 2015 08:20PM) (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments Cress and Never Fade will definitely get you out of your slump.
You have my word.

message 116: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments Cress sort of put me INTO a slump when I finished it lol. I loved that book!

Never Fade I'm going to read next. (Or so she says. XD; I'm trying guys. All the shiny new books just keep coming)

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments Thanks @Daniel @Harlee! I will give it a try! I love The Lunar Chronicles so I'm sure this will work :) I started Cress last night!

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @Storm I always get distracted by shiny new books!

I know right?

message 121: by Marla (new)

Marla | 366 comments My shiny new books, are library books with a 'read by" date.

Sorry for your slumps, I hate it when that happens.

@Daniel, maybe try and pick something that GR friends with similar interests have rated 5 stars. That is normally how I get over a book slump...I try to pick an easy winner.

Good suggestion Marla. I have been searching for an easy winner for a while.

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

@ Daniel, I find sometimes the best way to get out of a slump is just to take a Reading break. dont pick up a book for a week or two and then pick up something you think you will like.

Hehe it rarely hapens. But when it happens I always daydream about the books and watch lots of Movies and tvs.

I wouldn't mind reading Cress with you if you haven't read it yet.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @James I just started Cress if you want to read along! Maybe @Jenny or @Karen will set us up a buddy read thread! Anyone else who wants to read Cress with us is welcome to join in!

Rose, there is already a Cress buddy read thread that Tia and I set up months ago! You can use that one- I'd love to see what you think!

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments Thanks @Daniel :)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments ^I'll join in on that. I'm reading Scarlet now, Cress next.

message 131: by Storm (new)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments You know what's also hard to do in a reading slump?

Rereading cause then you feel guilt for ignoring the other books you have to read.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments Yay @James @Tommy! I'm not too far into Cress but planning to read today!

@Rose @Tommy I haven't started the book yet, but I'm likely going to read some of it today.

Rose (The_Calm_Reader) (roselittlebookowl75) | 1372 comments @James I'm only on Chapter 3 and I'm a slow reader so no worries!

message 135: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I'm still on Scarlet, but plan on finishing it tonight and getting through a good chunk of Cress tomorrow.

Marla | 366 comments I did a buddy read for Fairest last month. Good luck with Cress, I hope you like it, I actually liked Scarlet, Fairest and Cinder better (in that order). I missed the tough heroine in Cress (view spoiler)

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 330 comments I have been fighting a reading slump for some time. I think it's because there are so many that I own I want to read, group reads I try to read, library books, I end up having 9 or 10 at a time on my currently reading list. Then I'm too stressed to read any of them!!!! I have to quit doing that!!

:(
You should try to sign up for less, set smaller goals.
For example read one library book, one book you own and one group read a month. Set yourself a number and try to stick to it.

That sounds like a good idea. I used to read three at a time and that was fun but I let it spiral. Now I miss out on a lot of group reads etc. I will start setting better guidelines because I really don't want to be stressed over books. I love them. We all do :-)

Or you could do like, not before I finish these 5 books I own will I get more books from the library, ditto library... And its not like you have to finish group reads in the assigned month. You can read febs group read in march,I mean the thread for it is still there so you can still see what others thought.

That's pretty much what I've done. I had so many library books out I couldn't finish them before they expired. So I just took to getting one or two I REALLY wanted.

Is it possible to go in and change the holding date? My library allows that, I went from 14 days to 21 days.

They automatically renew online so I'm holding steady so far. There is just too many books and so little time :-/
