Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments What are you are planning for the new years reading wise?

I just finished a couple of John Green books: Looking for Alaska and Paper Town. I still need to write a review for Paper Town before I can count it officially as finished.

For me I plan to read some nonfiction in order to start the year off, and maybe go back and review some Feist for the group read.

Matt Goguen Lets Seeee.

Starting Blood Song today. Its got high ratings but the longer i use Goodreads the more i realize that people typically have a an awful conception of whats good and not. Definitely going to reread Way of Kings. Ive read way too many books and it needs to be fresh in my mind for the 2nd book.

message 3: by Martha (new)

Martha (tilla) | 194 comments No idea except I've preordered Carol Berg's next one

message 4: by Lee (new)

Lee Well to start I need to finish a book from last year, didn't quite make it. Then I'm reading Dangerous Women and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. After that... Not sure yet to be honest.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Yay...
Happy New Year!

Reading: Feist's Magician; I've read it a while ago, but do not remember details at all.
Butcher's Cursor's Fury; first time read, but won't start it till mid month.
Sanderson's TheWell of Ascension. I've been reading this, been popping back and forth with monthly reads.
:)

message 6: by Konna (new)

Konna Happy New Year to everyone!

Currently I am reading The Grear Gatsby and I'm going to read The Hobbit (the graphic novel) and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I also want to continue the Song of Fire and Ice. So many books :)

message 7: by Leady (new)

Leady This year I absolutely want to read the Asimov's foundation trilogy, in list from years!

message 8: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) | 0 comments First off is Ratha's Creature. I started a few pages a few days ago (last year, now LOL); I'm not sure what to start now that I'm not tying up loose ends at the end of the year, so it seems as good a choice as any! :)

message 9: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments As the year begins, I finished Red Harvest (not the worst Star Wars book I've ever read) and started Annihilation: Star Wars (The Old Republic) by Drew Karpyshyn. So far it's pretty entertaining and I think that'll be the end of the Star Wars books for a while.

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeldiack) I'll be reading the complete history of Middle-earth volume 1, and also I am Legend.

message 11: by jxssicaL (new)

jxssicaL (jesibear) I'm reading the fallen star series at the minute- I'm on the second book and I've fallen in love with it! I think everyone should give this a read- Jessica Sorensen is a brilliant writer.

hope everyone the best for 2014! and keep reading :)
xoxo

message 12: by Beatrix (new)

Beatrix (smiley_omnomnom) | 23 comments I want to finish the Red Pyramid and its series, as well the the Selection and its series. :D

message 13: by Jermaine (new)

Jermaine (jwalton1207) Currently reading the blood song. After that

message 14: by Aldaren (new)

Aldaren Nadorn (aldarennadorn) After watching the new Hobbit movie, i started reading Hobbit again. The books is so much better.

I plan to read the second and third book of Kane Chronicles and then the last two books of Percy Jackson series. After that Sword of Truth and The Stormlight Archive series.

message 15: by Beatrix (new)

Beatrix (smiley_omnomnom) | 23 comments Thalia wrote: "City of Bones (Cassandra Clare) - pretty good so far. :)"

I loved that series, up until the 4th book. Good series, though!

message 16: by Doug (new)

Doug (caesaraugustus) I am reading The Folly of the World.

It is pretty good, but... I'm usually ok with random gratuitous violence, bad language, and explicit content, but this book is pretty cringe inducing.

message 17: by Lee (new)

Lee I finished reading The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Steelheart and Mitosis a short story that takes place after Steelheart. Next up is Storm Front.

message 18: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I just finished And Then There Were None. It was so good! What took me so long to read it?? I'm currently reading The Blinding Knife.

message 19: by Amanda (new)

Amanda finishing Nora Roberts The Calhouns Suxanna and Megan getting ready to read Dragon Wings By Anne McCaffery

message 20: by Edward (last edited Jan 03, 2014 09:38PM) (new)

Edward Lazellari Starting Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. Starting Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series afterword.

message 21: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Annihilation: Star Wars (The Old Republic) and started reading Against the Fall of Night. No, not Against the Fall of Night, Against the Fall of Night by Michael Arnold -- a big, fat historical novel set at the tail end of the Byzantine Empire.

message 22: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 124 comments Jenny wrote: "I just finished And Then There Were None. It was so good! What took me so long to read it??"

Funny, I just finished that one for a different book club. Book totally creeped me out! But it was excellent.

message 23: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I'm reading Dangerous Women, which many people are also reading. I'm not a big fan of anthologies and short stories. There are just too many different anthologies that come out in a year. If it was not for the fact I found the book just sitting there on the shelf at the local library yesterday, I would not have even given a thought on picking the book up.

message 24: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey | 124 comments Just finished The Mercury 13, which was excellent. I should get through my re-read of Mistborn: The Final Empire today or tomorrow.

Then it's a toss up between finishing a couple non-fiction books I'm in the middle of or starting Nightfall. Trying to clear my unread shelves and that one's been there for several years.

message 25: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) | 0 comments Gave up on Ratha's Creature, for now anyway. As someone who reads a lot of animal fiction, it's not the best out there. Rereading Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams now. Didn't intentionally jump to another cat story, just happened that way :)

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Ooh, another cat story.

Liked Tailchaser's Song.
:)

message 27: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) | 0 comments It's awesome! :)

message 28: by Bev (new)

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments Just read Ready Player One which got a 5 star from me. Next it will be Battle Royale.

I never liked Tailchasers song I thought it let Williams down. I found Cassandra Clares books to be e bit YA. I enjoyed Steelheart although that too I found a little young.

Asimov is a must read (love him or hate him)as is the Hobbit in any format.

I want to finish any series' that I started this year, so don't really want to start any new ones til then. I'm planning to read Cursor's Fury and then The Summer Tree. I know starting a series but blame the group!I'm also going to try and read Golem and the Djinni. Then we'll see if any month is left.

message 30: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (ben21) Just started Furies of Calderon

message 31: by Sleepninja (new)

Sleepninja Right now I'm working on Bloodhound (Beka Cooper, #2) by Tamora Pierce

Not sure what to read after I finish that.

message 32: by Elise (new)

message 33: by Kevin (last edited Jan 08, 2014 01:31PM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments I just finished up Dangerous Women, which overall I thought it was the most over hyped and overrated anthology of all times. Now I'm going to read the first three Rain Wilds Chronicles all the way through, even though it took me about a little bit over a year to get into Dragon Keeper. I'm about 60% finished with the first book.

message 34: by Sieger (new)

Sieger I'm reading The Way of Kings and it will be followed by The Name of the Wind. After that who knows, but I'm working my way down the highest rated books in my to read list.

message 35: by Lee (new)

Lee Kevin wrote: "I just finished up Dangerous Women, which overall I thought it was the most over hyped and overrated anthology of all times. Now I'm going to read the first three Rain Wilds Chronicles all the way ..."

I'm slowly (too slowly!) making my way thru this as well. It seems like I'm not making any progress with it at all. I'm tempted to just finish reading the authors I know and call it quits.

message 36: by Lee (new)

Lee Other than Dangerous Women, I'm reading The Way of Shadows. I've read it before and liked it, but never finished the series. I'm aiming to do so this month. Also listening to an audio of Dracula. My first audio book but definitely not my last.

message 37: by Beatrix (new)

Beatrix (smiley_omnomnom) | 23 comments I just started Pullman's series, His Dark Materials. I've been looking for a good epic fantasy to read. :D

message 38: by Michelle (last edited Jan 09, 2014 02:06PM) (new)

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) | 0 comments Thea, I love His Dark Materials!! :)

Finished Varjak Paw, now back to Tailchaser's Song (a book I love so much that I named my cat Fritti after Fritti Tailchaser).

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I am currently finishing up with Steelheart. I like it so far, pretty quick passed, easy read. Next, I'm gonna tackle The Way of Kings, looks like a Sanderson month for me.

message 40: by Doug (new)

Doug (caesaraugustus) I just finished men of bronze by Scott oden. I just started alif the unseen. Someone here nominated it for us to read, and it looked good. Then I'm gonna start perdido street station.

message 41: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I'm continuing my Percy Jackson & The Olympians series read with The Titan's Curse on audio.

message 42: by Greta (new)

Greta I am rereading A Game of Thrones and then will move on to Joe Abercrombie's The Heroes and Red Country.

message 43: by Rach (new)

Rach (rachn) | 5 comments I've just finished The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan. It was alright - the dialogue was excellent. That was the main highlight for me.

I'm planning to read Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle next, which is more science fiction then fantasy, but the two also often go hand in hand together.

message 44: by Lee (new)

Lee I'm continuing Week's Night Angel series with the 2nd book Shadow's Edge. And The Amulet of Samarkand, a cute young fantasy book about a boy magic user and his demon. Sort of.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments As I finish Magician today, I'll start Cursor's Fury.
From there I will be clearing out my book palette ;), as I prepare for Brandon Sanderson's newest release in March.

message 46: by Helen, I·ᴍ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʟɪʙʀᴀʀʏ (new)

Enjoyed Cursor's Fury now reading number9dream - don't like it so far. Then Summer Tree.

message 47: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (ben21) Just started Cursor's Fury

message 48: by Tara (new)

Tara (tarabookreads) I finished reading Days of Blood & Starlight and then realized that the third book in the series hasn't been released yet (was hoping to start with the next one right after).. so instead, I am currently reading Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and a non-fantasy book Deadly Deception...

message 49: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Finished The Cuckoo's Calling. I really liked it, although the "big reveal" wasn't too surprising. I kind of figured it out early on, but was second guessing myself at times.

Now I've been reading The Arabian Nights: Tales from a Thousand and One Nights. I've got the very nice leatherbound Barnes & Noble edition :) So I won't be having it near any food or when I go out. Beast of a book. We'll see if I make it to the end lol

message 50: by A.J. (new)

A.J. Martinez (aj-martinez) I like to read many books from indie authors because there is a lot of hidden talent out there. Right now I am reading MOTH by Daniel Arenson. Moth
A world torn in two. A world of day and another of night.
