Tytti | 1010 comments There is also Carlos Ruiz Zafón, though it's the "wrong" lastname with the Z

(Great, I can go edit a bunch of names that were written incorrectly. Why don't I have the same interest to do something useful?)

As I'm nearly finished (5 to go), I thought I'd start again (overlapping slightly), this time using only first names instead of surnames. I'll add it to my previous list post as a spoiler so I'm not taking up too much space. Hope that's ok - I just don't want to stop playing! :)

Goodreads lets us have as many posts as we want ;-), so don't worry about space!!

Good luck on your second go-around. And, wtg you ^5

They both sound good! I may pick one of them up later in the year to fill in my 'x' too. I suspect that will be one of the last I fill in ;-)

Julie | 606 comments Doing so well on the title challenge that I decided to give this one a try as well (happy for goodreads feature to easily see what I've read in 2014...

(view spoiler)

message 61: by MK (new)

MK (wisny) | 2579 comments Yes, that feature does help remember! You're doing really well on the author one as well! Nice assortment :)

I combined a couple of author profiles that had the names in the wrong order. In case someone is wondering...

Skimming through the posts, looks like Caroline has finished with the Surname author challenge. Good work.

I've still got 5 letters left: F I O R X

Don't see this getting finished this year, will have to carry it over to next year. Still need:

well, John Irving has always been one of my favourite authors :-)

I'm down to Q, U and X - pretty much know what I will read for those, just need to fit them in between other reads in the remaining months of 2014

Kaycie | 5 comments Kathy wrote: "I still left, but got in my R

John Irving
Kazuo Ishiguro
Isabelle Allende

Memory of Water by Emmi Itäranta
Labeled YA in English speaking countries, I guess, but adult fiction in Finland. Probably too slow for the YA crowd, anyway.

Thanks Tytti, Looks good. I am considering this for sure. Just looking at book availability.

And Kaycie I'll check out Kazuo Ishiguro too. I do have a couple of John Irving books that I am considering.

Even with time to spare, I don't have a prayer. I'm on my 70th book this year and have used only 19 letters.

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 333 comments I had to bow out for reasons explained in the edit of my first post here. I wish everyone the best of luck, and I'll do my best to help everyone find books for the elusive last few letters.

message 79: by Connie (last edited Dec 10, 2014 07:27PM) (new)

Connie Cote Finished with Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. Now need U and V for the title challenge. Good thing the holidays are coming up. I did use some first names (which is allowed in the rules) but I think if this challenge is in again for 2015 I would do it with just the last names.

My challenge has been dashed on the rocks of defeat. With just 20 days left in the year I will have to concede my loss. Q, U, X, & Y are the letters that defeated me. Of the four I am most surprised by not finding a Y.

message 81: by Katy, Quarterly Long Reads (new)

Katy (kathy_h) | 9529 comments Mod
Q, U, & X are always tricky. Does seem that a Y should show up somewhere. Good thing we have new challenges for the coming new year.

message 82: by Julie (new)

Julie | 606 comments I'm sooo close, currently reading my U, have my X lying ready - but still have Q to go, and don't think I'll manage that...

message 83: by Tytti (last edited Dec 12, 2014 08:44AM) (new)

Tytti | 1010 comments One of my favourite childhood books was written by Eduard Uspensky, Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat! Then there is Lyudmila Ulitskaya and Sigrid Undset, too.

For Q something by Ellery Queen might be a quick read or maybe Confessions of an English Opium Eater.

message 84: by Christine (new)

Christine | 971 comments Bob wrote: "Of the four I am most surprised by not finding a Y."

I'm still missing U, X, & Y. I'm surprised at not having a Y, too.

message 85: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 1010 comments The only Y I have is Marguerite Yourcenar.

message 86: by Julie (new)

Julie | 606 comments Yay, made it!

Ended up just choosing a random Q-author on the shelves at my local library, not much to choose from, and probably wont be reading much more by this author, the book was really not my thing... Oh well, the book I had originally chosen for my Q-author can be read in 2015 instead :-)
