When I found out that Nico was gay AND had had a crush on percy, I literally fan girl screamed because my OTP, albeit its one sided, was CANON! Long live Nicercy!
And then I found out what happened in Blood of Olympus, and may I just say that that took GUTS.
Nico di Angelo is one of the sweetest, toughest, most awesome demigods there are, and I really hate those 'things' (homophobes) that bash him because he's gay.

Controversy aside, I had a big book-crush on Nico, so that was a little traumatizing. However, what bothered me the most was that Rick Riordan has turned his books into a platform for social issues (and may I say it...a marketing ploy). I could related very well to Nico in regards to shyness and feeling out of place. But now that Rick says Nico's actions are because he's gay--well, there goes my empathy. My connection to the character is gone. As much as I like Nico, he's just not the same. He's an advertisement for a new branch of audiences.
