I've not read the book, so won't be able to compare, but am hoping it's a good read!

Well then I'm interested in seeing how a new comer takes to it . Its a decent story and it should transfer well to a Graphic Novel.

message 304: by [deleted user] (new)

I actually just bought two books. The Color of Magic (Discworld, #1) by Terry Pratchett which I shall be starting today and The Companions (The Sundering, #1; Legend of Drizzt, #24) by R.A. Salvatore .

Have you read Pratchett before or is this a new venture.
I preordered The End is Now, which is the second part of an anthology split into three with each author telling a different stage of an apocalypse in each part of the series ,and pledged for a kickstarter for a book called Blackguards with Anthony Ryan, Mark Lawrence and Snorri Kristjannson ,all of whom I'm a fan of, featuring plus about twenty more .

Okay, I got in an end of the month book buying spree. I got Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor for my Audible credit. Not my usual habitat, but I read the first two and now want to know how it ends.

And in the excitement of yesterday's release of The Mirror Empire (Worldbreaker Saga, #1) by Kameron Hurley I also got Dust and Light (The Sanctuary Duet, #1) by Carol Berg The Shadow Throne (The Shadow Campaigns, #2) by Django Wexler The Inventor's Secret (Cragbridge hall, #1) by Chad Morris The Godless (Children, #1) by Ben Peek Journey Into the Flame by T.R. Williams

I studied in The Oddyssey in uni and enjoyed it. Not read any of the rest but looks like an interestin course

Scratch that i also read some of The Republic

I loved the Oddyssey as well. I havent come across that adaption but looks worth a look.
I love my mythology so that book sounds great. I did a module and Western Social Thought which would cross over some of your study

Exactly, that was the major reason it came back up on my radar again and then I realised I also had it planned for a challenge in my german group.

Oh, and I just looked over the books you posted. And I have a massive spoiler for the one by ohn J. Ruszkiewicz and Jay T. Dolmage.
The answer is: A-n-y-t-h-i-n-g! See, now you don't have to read the whole book. :P

I think ive bought numerous mythology encyclopedias over the years and still have a few. I used to devour them.

Nope! Couldn't help myself! I got the hardback of Fool's Assassin, but it's ok because they've changed the cover styles so it won't look out of place among all my Hobb paperbacks :)

I also got The Griffin Mage which seems pretty interesting :)

Looks like some gold book choices. I finally got Fools Assassin from my library yesterday and read through 150 pages last night (to the annoyance of my wife)

This is my first Pratchett novel ever but I saw most of The Hogsfather movie on Netflix a few years ago so I at least know a little about discworld. So far it's awesome!!

I got:

The Lady Astronaut of Mars: A Tor.Com Original

and

Unfettered: Tales by Masters of Fantasy - £2.99 on Kindle. Includes stories from:
Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson
Patrick Rothfuss
Peter Brett
Mark Lawrence
Terry Brooks
Naomi Novik... and more!

Also as an aside, this anthology was published by Shawn Speakman to help pay for his cancer treatment ( read about it here). I'm not sure what the splits are when you buy kindle versions etc, but at least some money must go to his cause, which is great :D

I was looking at Unfettered as well today. Trying to decide on the Hardback or not. Hes releasing another anthology next week as well and i entered a name for it in a competition

I just find it really odd when books which really haven't been out long find their way to the charity shop... either people bought them and hated them, or it was a gift not to their tastes!

Oh yes, and while buying some DVDs for mother's birthday, I couldn't help myself and dug out Pay the Piper and Welcome to Bordertown as they had been sitting in my 'saved for later' bit.

message 326: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
I bought both those books as well Freya for a combined total of about 30 euro. Ah well.
I'm not sure I'm mad about the Long Earth series but I like my Pratchett collection full.

message 327: by Richard (new)

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I got Manhattan In Reverse from Poundland for a £1. Hardback version as well.
Now I really must concentrate and read some of the many books i have purchased over the last few months.

message 328: by [deleted user] (new)

So this is my last haul. This is what happens when I get to go to a dollar a bag book sale. Coolest thing I pulled out of there was a bunch of James Clavell hardcovers.

I went on a GRRM binge. I preordered The Ice Dragon new edition . I preordered Dangerous Women 1 and 2 and I ordered Rogues.

The first two are brilliant, I haven't read the third yet.

Just bought Gardens of the Moon, I am about halfway through my library copy but this is one that I'll want to keep in my collection, and I haven't really bought much lately, so while I was out today I picked it up in paperback.

I mean this totally fits the theme. Archaeological book sale and you had to dig deep into the pile to uncover this lost treasure.

not sure what to think of it so far, only about 15% in but already been introduced to so many different characters. might be one for reading at home when I can focus on it properly instead of break times at work which I have been doing

Tom | 216 comments Just bought Odysseus: The Oath never read anything by him but it's 99p on kindle daily deal so thought why not.

Also got Andreas Eschbach, Lord of All Things for 99p never heard of it myself but apparently it's won an award for Germany's best sci-fi novel, only got good reviews so I'll give it a go.

I went on a small buying trip and got Zoes Tale by John Scalzi (As I'm enjoying the current scifi read Old Mans War) as it was a good price . I also bought The Three by Sarah Lotz as it sounds like a decent horror with halloween coming . To top it off I bought Poes Tales of Mystery and Imagination for a Halloween buddy read elsewhere .
