Well today was Free Comic Day! So I have a few goodies, unfortunately I will be being beaten round the head with an essay until the end of next week, so I'll limit my update and contribution to the group to these two additions I got today :)

The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile

Here's what I bought today. The complete Harry Potter collection plus the Hogwarts Library.

Eeeek what great editions, in a shiny box :D

message 211: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya, the Hogwarts Library ones are hardcover and look awesome. The books in the Harry Potter set are just the paperback editions but the box art was too amazing to pass up.

Daniel | 5 comments Courtesy of a post I read on one of the threads here, I visited thebookpeople.com and bought the following a couple of weeks ago:

Fevre Dream
The Armageddon Rag
The Voyaging by George R.R. Martin (couldn't find it with the add book/author tool)
Micro
Prey
Next
Eric
The Book of the New Sun
Flowers for Algernon
Hyperion
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
The Lies of Locke Lamora
The Name of the Wind
I Am Legend
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
Life, the Universe and Everything
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
Mostly Harmless
The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul
The Salmon of Doubt
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

they weren't all those particular editions (would have taken too long to select the right ones). was pretty much the best parcel I've received in a while!

message 217: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 5 comments thanks, I will. really excited to read them, although I'm finishing off The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test first and then I'm going on my hols in a week so that will be a Kindle job. slightly frustrating, but i'll get round to them soon!

Yesssss, did you get their amazing 8 book Gollancz set? :D I have it, it's soooo good.

Last bought Beautiful Creatures. Saw the film and enjoyed it, though it wasn't amazing - but for some reason I just really wanted to read it after!

message 219: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 5 comments yep, that's the one. although I put Eric on ebay as I already have that with the josh kirby cover. I just watched Mortal Instruments today, can't say I feel any great need to read the books, although the film was ok

Trillian, I read flowers for algernon recently and really enjoyed it - hope you do too!

message 226: by Trillian (new)

Trillian @Kirsty: the description sounds really promising - but also a little bit sad. I already started Watership Down today, so Flowers for Algernon has to wait a little bit - but I'm not sure if I can wait or just start this book too :)

Metro 2033 and Brave New World

Brave New World is my next book after The Black Lung Captain which I'm reading at the moment :)

@Trillian: I have Watership Down somewhere on my shelves - let me know what it's like because I think I have tonnes of books ahead of it in the to-read list :O :D

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 441 comments I want to read Metro 2033! There is a sequel now too: Metro 2034

I saw as I was adding the link! I found it for 99p :)

message 233: by Trillian (new)

Trillian @Freya: I finished Watership Down yesterday and I really enjoyed it. At the beginning I wasn't sure what to expect of a book without any human protagonists, but it didn't annoy me at all - to be honest those rabbits really grew on me :) there were a few not so interesting parts (I don't like to read a story within a story/book) and sometimes the story itself was a little bit slow, but overall I really liked to read about the adventures of those rabbits. At first I couldn't decide between 3 and 4 stars, but in the end 3 seemed just too little, so I gave it 4 ;)

To be honest I haven't started reading them yet, I was going to wait till I was a few books through as I haven't worked out how it transfers - 1 book = 1 graphic novel. I don't like googling for GoT stuff... in case of spoilers! haha.

Basically I need to get through the series... :D

message 237: by Trillian (new)

Trillian I decided to finally finish the Shadowmarch series by Tad Williams, so I bought Shadowheart. On the one hand I'm really sad that it's over soon, but on the other hand I can't wait to find out what's going to happen :)

Andreas | 106 comments Just got my copy of cross-genre anthology Rogues. First story by Joe Abercrombie was awesome and so many are waiting!
Expect me to continuously editing my review.

/edit: the anthology is cross-genre, of course :)

I just orderd The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains: A Tale of Travel and Darkness with Pictures of All Kinds by Neil Gaiman - It's a book with pictures opposed to a picture book apparently! Neil Gaiman is a genius so I'm looking forward to getting it!

The Crimson Campaign (The Powder Mage, #2) by Brian McClellan

The first book was a great book for a first time author (pretty sure it was his first book)

Edit: I really like the cover art of this book, I was going to wait and get it from the library but I just liked the cover too much, actually paid full price which I rarely do
